Despite the winter cold, the square in front of the cathedral was filled with tourists, tour groups, and people taking photos. The constant movement created an energetic mood, though it contrasted with the quiet, spiritual feeling one might expect from a cathedral. Architecturally, the cathedral is striking, especially with its unique combination of neoclassical, Gothic, and modern elements. Its location opposite the Royal Palace makes the view particularly impressive. Inside, the bright colors and contemporary design give the space a distinctive character. However, the large number of visitors made it hard to slow down and fully absorb the interior details. Overall, Almudena Cathedral is a significant cultural and religious landmark in Madrid. While the New Year crowds can be overwhelming, the cathedral’s architecture and setting still make the visit worthwhile.

A beautiful cathedral that is free to enter. I really enjoyed looking up at the ceiling to see the beautiful art up above. The cathedral is very clean and tidy and was only completed in the year 1993. A pleasure to visit.

Stepping inside felt serene and peaceful, a calm escape from the bustle of the city just outside its doors. We slowly wandered through, taking in the colorful stained glass, elegant altars, and the beautiful blend of classical and modern architectural styles. The atmosphere was reverent yet welcoming, making it easy to linger and appreciate its history and spiritual significance. Located right next to the Royal Palace, it’s perfectly situated for a day of sightseeing, and we loved being able to take in both iconic landmarks together. A must-visit spot for anyone wanting to experience the heart and soul of Madrid! 🌟🇪🇸

Completed in 1993 after more than a century of construction, the Almudena Cathedral stands beside the Royal Palace as Madrid’s main Catholic church. Its mix of neoclassical exterior and modern-Gothic interior makes it truly unique. The colorful dome offers panoramic city views, and entry is free (small donation suggested). The crypt, with its Romanesque revival design, is especially peaceful and worth visiting for those who appreciate sacred architecture and history.

Admission is age discriminative based on nationality. Discount only given to EU members over 65, so bad luck Aussies 🙂 Apart from that a worthwhile visit and very different in so many architectural respects to other Spanish Cathedrals. The view from the tower balcony is beautiful.

Beautiful cathedral in and out. Very colourful stained glass in a cubism style. Has modern parts to it too. Stunning ceiling!

Famous central cathedral in Madrid, Spain, small entrance fee to enter. Just a one time visit. Grand, but you see one cathedral, you’ve kind of seen them all.
