Veronika Slowikowska’s Grub Street Diet

"A fast-casual Mediterranean bowl chain whose bowls were ordered during a live podcast recording, derailing the episode; the writer ate one bowl fresh and later finished the other half as a convenient, tasty meal." - Zach Schiffman

Stopped by for the first time today. It was quite busy—probably because it was a Friday evening—but the queue moved quickly, and we got our orders within 10 minutes. The music was very loud, making it a bit difficult to hear the employees. We ordered the Falafel Crunch Bowl and the Crispy Falafel Pita—both tasted good. The falafel had a unique flavor compared to other restaurants, which we liked. However, the pita became soggy fairly quickly, and the pita crisps added as a topping to the bowl were hard to chew. The portion size could be improved, especially considering the higher price point. We also tried the Lemon Fizz, which was decent. There are a few tables available both indoors and outdoors. Overall, it was a good experience—I would recommend it.

I came for their soft opening and it was GOOD! I love the soft pitas and variety of ingredients. As a person who has a lot of dietary restrictions, this place is a 10/10. There are a wide variety of options to choose from when building a bowl or pita, and the staff were good at answering any questions I had about the food.

08/31/25. At 11:34 am First of all, the food was excellent! I also want to bring something to the manager’s attention: there was one young woman who truly deserves 5 stars. She was taking orders, preparing the food, and working the register all with an amazing attitude, even when the line was long. Meanwhile, there were 4 or 5 other employees standing around doing nothing. She really stood out and deserves recognition for her hard work and excellent customer service.

I absolutely LOVE Cava. First time trying their restaurant. I ordered a build your own bowl. I was a little cautious about over mixing things, so I order very light. I did like 1 meat, 2 veggies, 1 sauce. My sister on the other hand, pushed the limit and ordered as many toppings as she could. And both bowls were ABSOLUTELY delicious! The flavors were on point. I don't think its possible to have anything bad here, so don't be afraid to try new combinations or new toppings. Like my sister said, if she didnt like anything, she could pick it off lol. But she loved everything. We will both definitely be returning. Solid 10/10 so far!

Tried Canva for the 1st time. Everything was very fresh. I had the harissa chicken and the lamb. I also go the harissa dip (that was a rookie move) pick one or the other due to the 🥵. It's spicy but good. It was about $35 for 2 bowls.

Google
Must try: Honey Chicken with fire roasted corn Don't Try: Steak Tldr: High-quality toppings but under-seasoned proteins and rice. Price worth it?: If you care about high-quality toppings with variety, it's worth it. If you're looking for a typical "all things considered" Mediterranean food bowl experience, not worth it. Full Review: Since they just opened, I won't give this place too much grief. So I will give them props for serving a variety of toppings with good quality behind them. However, the main protein (I had steak) and rice were under seasoned. I tried the honey chicken as well, and that was pretty decent - for first-time goers here, I would recommend starting with the harissa honey chicken. Make sure to add Skhug (green sauce) and fire roasted corn. I might give it a couple of months before coming back here so they can settle in a bit for opening a new location. They clearly have the potential to be a good spot, and I really hope for them that's the case so I can change my review. At their current state I would say they are better than some, but not better than most Mediterranean spots.

I place an order through DoorDash. My first one from this particular location. I am disappointed. This dry bowl, where are my sauces? I’ve never had a terrible bowl from Cava until now

Google
I almost never submit a review - but this place deserves it!! I have a gluten allergy and so I used the website to look up allergy information for each of the components at cava. When I placed my order, I mistakenly chose falafel which is not gluten-free per the restaurant’s website when I really wanted the steak (I knew it was safe to eat from the same list on the website). When I arrived to pick up my food, I realized my error! I spoke with the manager and apologize for the incorrect order that I had placed. With so much ease and displaying no displeasure at all, the manager not only gave me a new order with the correct protein, but also gave us the bowl with the falafel that was ordered. He also did not ask that I pay the difference between the steak option and the falafel option. I completely appreciate how generous and kind the manager was. Especially when it comes to my allergy, sometimes it can be tricky ordering and even though I’ve been gluten free for over ten years, I still make silly mistakes occasionally - the fact that the manager went out of his way to help when the error was not there’s was honestly very endearing to me. AND the food was amazing too! Not only will I be telling all of friends and family about Cava, I also will definitely be back!

Yelp
We come to CAVA regularly because we really enjoy the food -- it's one of our favorite spots. However, yesterday night, I asked one of the ladies on the line, Natasha, if I could get a falafel as an extra topping on the side. She looked at me, threw the utensils down, and walked away without saying anything or coming back. I'm not sure what happened, but it felt very rude and uncomfortable. That said, Katherine and Julián were very attentive and kind afterward, which we really appreciated, especially after that awkward moment. Malcolm also gave us free bowls, which was a generous gesture and helped turn the experience around. We truly like this place and hope to continue coming, but we do hope moments like that don't happen again.

Yelp
Visited this location recently and did not have a good experience. First, the price vs value was not good. Two adults and two small kids cost $77 for two bowls, some pita chips and two kids meals with two kids drinks. At that price, you're better off at a sit down restaurant. More importantly, the place was dirty with food on the floor, no knives or straws (apparently they ran out) and no one tending to the dining room area despite a large number of customers. I have been to other locations in Atlanta and it was a significantly better experience.

Yelp
My one complaint is that they seemed to be understaffed or something like that. I online ordered for a pick up time of 2:15 and I didn't get my order until 3:25. As I was waiting I heard several other people say they were still waiting for their 1:45 order and how it had been over an hour. Their drink machine was also out of ice and at some point they completely ran out of white rice and a guy came out to ask if anyone wanted brown rice instead. When asked how long the white rice would take they couldn't give an answer. One woman took him up on the offer and they sent out another staff member like 10 minutes later to ask the same thing later and she had to repeat that she wanted the rice swap even when the first man assured her that her order was being made. At some point, the wait became so long for me that I went to sit down and I noticed the tables were not clean at all. It obviously isn't on the staff and I'm sure they're trying their best but they definitely need more workers. The in-person line was also pretty long and moves slowly. Moving on to my actual order, my bag was missing utensils and they had accidentally give me a blondie instead of a brownie. The blondie tasted like scrambled eggs. I will say, my actual bowl was well seasoned and delicious. Perhaps, I'm just saying that because I'm so hungry after waiting so long. I do wish they had filled my bowl up a little higher though. So all in all, I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for a quick in and out.

Yelp
Overall I love cava. I got a salad with lamb, tzatziki, and pretty much all the veggies. Lamb was incredible, along with the tzatziki! The veggies were a bit skimpy compared to other locations I have gone to where they load it up so that is why I'm dropping to a four star

Yelp
I'm a big fan of CAVA. For me it's a much fresher and healthier version of Chipotle. Choose pita or a bowl, with a variety of bases (veggies and rice), GREAT meat options (try the new harissa honey chicken!) and a bunch of clean, whole toppings, like roasted corn, and more. Right now, they have a cute promotion where you get a free "pita" plushie when you purchase a bowl and pita chips. Glad to see a CAVA location in the western suburbs!

Yelp
I liked that this place had a very easy to use website. I also liked that I could customize my bowl, a Greek "Subway." They had a bunch of house drinks that looked good. I tried the Strawberry one. My food was ready on time. The inside looked clean. I will definitely order here again.

Yelp
Been waiting for Cava to open near me. My daughter is a huge fan so we'd always try when traveling. Just opened a month or so ago, steady stream of people lining up for the chipotle style Mediterranean food. Clean restaurant with indoor booths and outdoor seating. I built my own bowl with a black lentil and salad base. Choice of rice or handheld as well and comes with a pita triangle. Numerous options of spreads, pick three, meats, and endless toppings. This will be a regular rotation for us.

Laura C.

Yelp
Horrendous experience, ordered the harissa avocado bowl which ended up being a bowl of rice and spinach as they were out of all the other ingredients, still got charged the full price though. I did end up putting some veg on the top but they were so bathed in vineger, that even loading up on the tsasiki sauce muted the flavor, might as well have just guzzled a bottle of vinegar, would have been the same culinary experience. Choked down about a third of this catastrophe with a couple of severely overly sodium encrusted pita chips.

Yelp
Fresh food, quick service, and clean space. Great spot for a healthy, flavorful meal in Bolingbrook.

Yelp
I have to update my review and drop the stars. They were 24min late for my early app order. Service is big with me and they blew it. I'll look for another place next time.

Yelp
Love us some Cava! My husband and I used to go to cava when we lived in the city so we were pretty excited a location opened up so close to us in the burbs. The line at this location is pretty long and understandably so since it's so new here. The line also doesn't move too fast but honestly, the workers in the back were hustling. It's basically a Mediterranean chipotle. You can order a bowl or a pita and then add a base (either grains, salad, or both). Then you get to choose dips/spreads and can choose up to three. The main is either meat, falafel or veggies. The toppings is my favorite part and it's unlimited selection. And then you end off the bowl with sauces of which you can choose two. It's a very casual place to either dine in or carry out. Overall love cava and can't wait to come back

Yelp
This was me & my mom's second time eating here. The food was above a 10/10, the service was a 10/10, and the vibes of the store are open and happy. Tamika took care of us and went above and beyond to make sure we left happy. We will return again & again!

Yelp
Cava is a really good place to eat and is good for all ages. I really liked the crispy falafel bowl, the harissa avocado bowl and the falafel crunch pita. The restaurant is also very clean. The service is pretty good and polite. The only thing I didn't like was the quantity of the bowls at this steep price point. I feel that they should put more ingredients in the bowls. But overall Cava is a great place to eat and I may come back again.

Yelp
2 HOURS FOR A WEB ORDER!!! Got the order wrong. Served uncooked rice. If you can't do web orders, don't do them.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Awesome food that's super fresh. Took my friend and enjoyed the pita chips with the basilica dressing. The steak and feta pita is excellent.

Michael S.

Yelp
Food is wonderful, service is often extremely slow. Even with a short or no line it takes an excessive amount of time to get an order completed. The last couple times they have also been out of a popular item, such as the red pepper hummus.

Priyanka K.

Yelp
It was pretty good but it wasn't the best. There was less quantity. Ask to add ingredients at the counter for at least decent quantity. The Crispy Falafel Pita was good and so was harissa avocado bowl. The place is really clean.

Yelp
I love the cava in downtown Chicago- don't let a cute suburban one fool you. I walked in and asked for white rice on my bowl, the girl said 5 minutes. that turned into 20 minutes and eventually the manager came around and said the girl was mixing the rice and it would be another 5. it ended up taking 40 minutes total and when I complained a worker said "white and brown rice taste the same anyways. please do not come here if you are hungry because you will wait. I walked in at 8:40 and left at 9:35. not to mention the rice was severely undercooked and hard and stale. definitely ruined cava for me.

Yelp
Tried CAVA in Bolingbrook for the first time and it did not disappoint! We ordered online for dinner and the food was ready right on time. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We tried the Floral Crunch Bowl and the Chicken + Garlic Bowl -- both were absolutely delicious. The veggies were crisp, the toppings were fresh, and the falafel was moist and perfectly seasoned. Can't wait to come back and try more from the menu!

Evan G.

Yelp
We have been waiting years for a Cava to open around here. For those of you who love Chipotle for big portions of healthy food, but are looking for new flavors, this is the place to go. It's a bit more pricey than Chipotle, but worth it.

Joe B.

Yelp
Love the food! My family is coming back! The lamb meatballs are my favorite thing to eat there!

Mae T.

Yelp
I had placed my order at this location by mistake and meant to place it at the river park location. When I tried calling them for a refund, I called them multiple times during operating hours and there was still no answer!

Sebastian B.

Yelp
great experience!!! happy to have Cava finally open closet to southwest suburbs! food was delicious and employees super friendly!

Yelp
stop by here just to try something new and boy was I disappointed. the portions was mediocre. they don't even use a spoonful they give you a tong full. I mean I'm paying $20 for only 3 pieces of meat. yeah never again. I'll stay at chipotle
