I had a wonderful dining experience at Caves Corvallis! I started with the oysters, which were fresh and quite large, and followed with the mussels for my entrée … absolutely delicious! Our server, Macayla, was friendly, sweet, and incredibly helpful, making the evening even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great seafood and excellent service in Corvallis!!

Google
One of my favorite bars in the area. It has a nice upscale atmosphere with comfortable bar seating and a cool art-deco style light fixture. There’s a nice variety of drinks and the prices are reasonable.

Google
What a gem! This place is simply amazing. Everything we ordered was very unique to in all the best ways. Interesting uses of mashing flavor profiles together that I didn’t expect. Each dish was a new adventure and each dish was one pleasant surprise after another. The carrots on the appetizer menu are worth it!! Don’t hesitate are question yourself. It will be the best food choice you’ve made in a long time. The steak was unreal. Flavored perfectly and tender. The potatoes cubes fried in duck fat were other worldly; I’ve never had anything like that. I would eat here every time I drive through Corvallis. You should call for reservations other wise your rolling the dice and sitting at the bar if your lucky. They do have a separate bar menu which also has some great options.

The food was absolutely delicious. Our server luke was outstanding and he recommended us amazing options. The New York was the most tender steak I’ve had and the potatoes were insane. The brownie he recommended was the best dessert I’ve had.

Google
Definitely try the Lingcod Cake Benedict, it’s so good I’ll probably dream about it until I die. 10/10 smash. All of our other food and drinks were great too!

Google
Very cute spot (aesthetically and ambiance/vibes). Greeted by kind hostess and opted for bar seating. Great wine selection. Had the skin contact wine and then went with a whiskey sour (one of the best I've had in a while even in larger city Portland!). The two bartenders were wonderful and friendly. The food looked and smelled amazing but we had dinner plans so we didn't only had drinks. I wish this place had been open while I was living in Corvallis for school. I would have been a regular.

Google
My husband is a foodie, and we've dined at Michelin-starred restaurants, but this place stands out as exceptional. The cocktails are delightful, and the flavors in my breakfast were a true feast for the senses. If you have the chance to eat here, don't miss it—you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended. I had the soufflé, photo shown below.

Google
This place was great before the pandemic, it looked like a British/German pub inside, the food was great and the atmosphere was lovely and old-fashioned. Nowadays the owners don’t seem to know what to do with it. It’s now cold and ostentatiously modern with open floor plan, devoid of its former warmth and charm. These hours are atrocious as well - when it was Cave’s Bier it had mostly regular hours.

Yelp
If I could give Craves more than five stars, I absolutely would. From the moment I stepped in, I could tell this place takes dessert seriously--and the marionberry cheesecake? A full-blown masterpiece. This isn't your average slice of cheesecake. What Craves serves is a velvety, rich, and luxuriously whipped creation perched atop pillowy-soft brioche toast that's lightly crisped to perfection. It's drizzled in a deep marionberry reduction that strikes the perfect balance between tart and sweet, and topped with plump, juicy blackberries that taste like they were picked fresh that morning. Add in the subtle crunch of a graham cracker crumble dusted over the whole plate, and you've got a dessert that's indulgent, elegant, and dangerously addictive. The texture contrast between the creamy cheesecake filling, the light toast, and the rich berry drizzle is unforgettable. It's like French toast met cheesecake, fell in love, and had a baby--with Oregon marionberries blessing the union. Whether you're a local or just passing through Corvallis, make Craves your dessert destination. I'll be coming back for another round (or three) of this marionberry magic. Bravo to the team--this place is a sweet tooth's dream!

Yelp
Tried a new place during this latest visit and glad I did. Cute place, has a very trendy vibe, though you wouldn't know it by walking past it. Has bar seating along with several high top tables and regular dining tables Eclectic menu with delightful seafood, hearty protein (burger, pork cheek Bolognese, etc), extensive wine/cocktail menu and a yummy dessert menu. This is a great spot for date night, celebrating something or just treating yourself. Service is friendly and attentive. The food is delicious. Come hungry as the portions will leave you full. So glad to have found this hidden gem!

Yelp
This is a cozy spot downtown. Caves is a lovely date spot or fun friend hang. I've been twice for brunch and it's so lovely. I didn't know this before but you can make a reservation. My favorite is to snag a spot at bar. They have friendly service and lots of smiles to go around. We both enjoyed our food. I like the portions because you get full and it feels just right. My scrambled eggs were fluffy and the perfect amount of cheese. The potatoes were cooked to a pillowy center with a nice crisp outside. The server even went to their Block 15 partner next door to get me some Cholula hot sauce. That meant a lot on a busy brunch run. I really enjoyed the fruit on my plate too. Kiwi was delicious. My dining partner loved their ham Benedict too. Keep being awesome Caves. What are y'all waiting for? It's brunch time.

Yelp
This was a solid spot for a great happy hour. We liked their $5 appetizers small plates for happy hour. Their happy hour drink discounts left more to be desired. We liked the brussel sprouts the most. The slider was just okay in my opinion. The Brie bites were good. The fries were not that great. The inside of the restaurant is super cute and makes it a great place to meet with friends, go on a date or enjoy a solo sip at the bar.

Chris P.

Yelp
Great service, outdoor seating, tasty menu. Had the muscles, tomato buratta salad, and seafood vol au vent. All were very tasty. My only complaint would be the size of the portion on the main.

Sandra S.

Yelp
It's worth far more than a measly "5"!! It was 1 of the BEST restaurants we've been in for a long time! Excellent, attentive service. Burgers were over the top. However, the dessert made with dates with the most amazing thing we've ever put in our mouths. Very unique, creative, and absolutely delicious. Family is planning a ROAD TRIP just to eat here again!!!

Mary Kay S.

Yelp
So, this is my 4th time eating at Caves. Each and every time there is something on my plate that is inedible. Either completely over cooked, under cooked or over seasoned (the breakfast potatoes are literally red in color from so much paprika). With the potatoes I asked for a replacement with no paprika but the second batch still had paprika on it! Today, my bacon came almost fully raw, so I asked if I could get crispy bacon instead and it looks like they flattened it and microwaved it, again, totally inedible. Go to Wise Cracks or Odd Bird Cafe!!

Yelp
The pros! Drinks were great, drinks fairly priced, service was amazing, very attentive, we both loved the ambiance, the menu was very detailed, had varying options for everyone, and had a great 5$ happy hour menu. The cons... Lack of flavor in dishes or seasoning, more on the expensive side, and I ordered a medium rare burger that came out well done. We both had a great time celebrating our anniversary and really loved the ambiance. The servers were amazing and the food came out quick but they had just opened. We also got the Smash Slider from the 5$ menu (not pictured, we were hungry ) and it was good. The lack of flavor started in slider and ended in the entrees but the ingredients made up for it. Overall, great place to out to, get a drink and some food during happy hour.

Yelp
The drinks were good, atmosphere was good, but the food service was debatable. Tonight after the baseball game we had a group of six come in two of us ordered New York strip (rare) thinking the cost at $45 the highest on the menu would come out absolutely amazing well I was sorely disappointed. I don't recommend this place and will never be going back there plus at $45 no thank you.

Yelp
A dichotomy: one of the best burgers I've ever had... Once I added salt. Latkes were excellent... Albeit also needing seasoning. Small "farm greens" salad was super fresh, but sparse. It was a handful of lovely greens, 2 thin slices of watermelon radish and almost no dressing. Fries were phenomenal! Souffle was award winning. Ambiance was mixed... Loud, obnoxious vocal music (they turned it fown after my request). Servers were lovely and the space was warm and clean. 3 stars because they were out of 2 of the 7 entrees and 3 of the 6 appetizers. Only 2 of the remaining entrees were proteins (burger & steak). I consider this poor planning by the chef. Pricing was in line. Most dishes were way under or not seasoned. As Alex Guarnicelli would say, "Needs salt!" Highlights: souffle, burger & fries.

Yelp
We came for brunch. I noticed the reviews were not very favorable around brunch. I think I Understand why. We started with the fruit plate. Some yummy pieces on it but a little sparse. The house made donut was good. Can't really go wrong with a fresh donut but the value was definitely not there. I got the Chicken and waffles. It's possible that I'm just weird but I don't like to mix eating media. Therefore I want to eat the chicken with a knife and fork too. It came with a boneless thigh and a leg. The breading was unique almost like a panko. Fair seasoning but it had trouble adhering to the meat. Definitely a forgettable dish. My wife got the tomato confit. It was good in an avocado toast sort of way but kind of missing the tomato confit. My fil got the shakshuka. It was good but served euth these soft flatbread triangles so a little awkward to eat. A decent effort but a lot of missteps. There's potential.

Yelp
Literally everything about this place was fantastic. The ambiance is peaceful, romantic, and cozy. Our server was mellow, charming, handsome, attentive without any pushiness, swirling around the busy dinner guests with an elegance and peaceful flow that belied the pressures he was under. The whole dinner was seamless pleasure. We ordered a series of small plates and drinks, and one main plate to share. All the food came out extremely fast and we were delighted by the portions given the small plate expectation. The prices seem to have stayed low, given the type of restaurant it is, despite the insane inflation of the past few years. This is a higher end, rotating, locally and seasonally sourced menu with artistic flavor combinations and elegant presentation. For some reason I didn't get that idea from scanning the reviews and photos, and I walked in purely because we were starving and had gotten repelled from another pub that was standing room only with at least 30% screaming children in residence and no server in sight. lol. So the surprise of this place was a delightful contrast and visceral relief to that experience we fatefully avoided. Then I relaxed into our two hour dining extravaganza, which was exquisite unto itself. The bulk of the crowd was couples having romantic dates, but I also really enjoyed watching this rotating table of friends that kept changing around an anchor pair all evening. At one point it grew to 6 people and the joy and revelry was perfect. So don't be afraid to experience this place as casual and social. Come in for a burger or just a drink with friends, or text your people and tell them to meet up with you halfway through your meal--you'll also fit right in. I was originally inspired to attend because I am learning about my love of Belgian ales, and I saw that this bottle club had a huge selection from a previous review. Yes indeed that is still the case. The beer selection is truly inspirational, with many vintage bottles they've been storing in their cellar, and many European craft beer imports and local brews as well. The menu describes each drink with three key words, which helps search for the flavor palate you're going for. I usually like to go to places with a large selection of drafts to choose from, but I was surprisingly delighted by this alternate bottle club experience. We started with the fried Brussels sprouts, then shared the hearty Finnish seafood soup with rustic bread and butter plate and ended with an incredible shrimp and scallop creamy main course thing (lol do not remember the name!) in a puff pastry. We each had two beers and an after dinner digestif (4 food plates, 6 drinks altogether). The bill came to $104, and we left satisfied, full but not stuffed, happy and relaxed. Cannot recommend highly enough for those seeking food-with-intention, humble elegance. Great set up for after-dinner continuing romance . Those one star reviews about service are inconceivable to me.

Yelp
We enjoyed welcoming interior, friendly service, interesting menu and good food at moderate price point in this downtown restaurant. It was not the best overall dining of a five day trip to Corvallis (that nod would go to Castor) but when we compared notes for "best dish" of the trip, both my husband and I chose the Twice Baked Souffle ($17) we shared as one of three brunch menu choices at Caves the Sunday we arrived in town. The goat cheese and fresh herb souffle was delicious and beautifully presented in a pool of pistaschio cream with pickled chard stems, pickled cherry tomatoes topped with microgreens. We wondered where all the other diners were because in the pushing 90 minutes we were there (we enjoyed the space to want to linger) there was an average of no more than six others in the dining room and by the time we left only another couple remained. VIBE: We understand there is some buzz about a remodel done sometime after 2020 that changed the vibe from a darker, moodier, more rustic one to the light and bright but sophisti-cozy place it is now with a fireplace on one wall and great lighting. We can't compare the new to the old, but we liked the new a lot and pride of ownership shone in the details. Still Corvallis is a college down and while my college years are way in my rearview I can appreciate that this is not a place where students want to hang. (The brew pub right next door was hopping though.) Music mix on sound system was loud enough to know it was there but not so loud as to compete with conversation. EATS: We had heard yawns, metaphorically speaking, for the brunch food when asking locals about Caves and some Yelp reviews seemed a similar perspective. But based on our experience, we enthusiastically recommend it to others. Although one of the 3 dishes we ordered, a fig and honey tartine ($9) that was described on menu as using toasted country brown bread and arrived on warm but not toasted bread that seemed more supermarket sourced sandwich slice than the rustic bakery quality we expected so, for us, good intent but was 'off' in execution. The other, merguez sausage on a roll with caramelized onions and arugula ($17), had too little of the former (and they needed a bit of salt), maybe too much of the latter and was lukewarm at service but the flavor and texture of the merguez sausage, made in house using Oregon lamb said our server when we asked, was great. May be opportunity for finesse improvement from the kitchen. But we enjoyed this introduction and had we had one additional day we would have gone back for "gather hour" leading into dinner to try other things and a cocktail from their bar. LIBATIONS: Dark roast coffee from a local roaster was perfect for us. In addition to cocktail menu from full bar they had an interesting wine list. SERVICE: The server was friendly, he knew the menu and he could answer questions. We felt tended but not hovered over. HOURS & HAPPY HOUR: Called "gather hour" from 4:00 - 5:30 offers half a dozen'ish small plates at $5 each and a small discount on some libations. Repeats at late night I think. Closed Tue/Wed. Open 4p Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun for dinner service. Brunch 9 - 2 Sat, Sun. MENU / PRICES: Dinner menu $6 - $45 with most items in the $9 - $20 range. Brunch $4 - $19. SEATING: Standard height tables and chairs around the perimeter, including by the front windows, provide equal access for all ages and walks of life. High two tops in the middle of the space. A couple of outdoor tables in front. ACCESSIBILITY: The door is a little tricky but help opening is provided. Standard height tables available. Loo is ADA compliant. Due to a fall before the trip I used a wheelchair here so can provide first hand experience that it worked. They ought to add 'wheelchair accessible' to the list of "amenities" Yelp has for owners to choose from. And they ought to consider putting the info on their web site as Corvallis eatery Castor does so perfectly. PARKING: On street downtown Corvallis and looks like paid lots too.

Yelp
Have you ever come around a time where you get served an extremely HOT meal to the point where despite blowing on it you still cant eat? Well this is it. I had big expectations on this place but unfortunately I didn't. We waited 1 hour and 30 minutes to get served. When we did get served, the food was not at the right temperature it should've been served for the food safety regulations. I was stirring the Shakshuka for over 15 minutes and eating it very slowly. I have to agree with some of the previous reviews but their costumer service is very slow. Im not sure if there has to be a new organization flow but it's extremely bad unless you are 'drunk' and not really paying attention or something. My partner wanted the chicken and waffle but unfortunately their inventory was also short so they told him he could not get it because they ran out. The two stars are for their interior design and the coziness of the place.

Yelp
SUCH tasty food! And not your ordinary fare, either! We did the Sunday brunch, and the food was amazing! My wife had the soufflé, and I had the pork hash. Add a great Bloody Mary and a cup coffee, plus super friendly and attentive service in a cute, small setting, and it's one of our new favorite places in Corvallis. We will be back!

Yelp
The food was not delicious. The drinks were scrumptious. The service was aloof. The atmosphere was lovely. I'd go for drinks only next time.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place. The menu was intriguing but didn't live up to my hopes. The duck confit was dry and tough, don't know how they managed that. The zucchini "risotto" was flavorful. Partner ordered seafood vol au vent he described as good but not great which was listed as an entree but was more like appetizer size compared with mine. The wine and beer list has interesting things including Greek and Georgian wines, they include little taste profiles which were very helpful in matching with food choices, unfortunately they were out of the bottle we ordered. So we ordered by the glass, and our food came out before our drinks. Otherwise service was meh. I'm not sure about the ambiance since we were seated at a table next to the front door with an uncomfortable low back bench on one side and two chairs facing the street. Our view was the dq across the street. There were better tables available guess we should have been more proactive instead of assuming they were reserved. It pisses me off when they pawn off the crappy tables first rather than the other way around. We are looking forward to trying the abundant other dining options in town.

Yelp
I regularly come for their gather hour on fridays, specifically for the half off oysters! I'm thankful that someone will shuck them for me. the pork and beef meatballs are spiced perfectly and complimented by the marinara sauce. the gather hour salad is a huge plate of greens with a simple spicy dressing, the frites are alright, sliders are super yummy with mayo and pickles on a warm toasty bun. Great date spot too!
google avatar

Gael G.

Yelp
Sweet little spot. I ordered a bloody mary and a large order of moules frites, great pair. Finished off the meal with a very generous portion of French toast. Waitstaff were prompt and kind, what more do you want? Bon appetite.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Great service and extensive wine selection. Gather hour has affordable small bite options. I've been 2x so far and have enjoyed both experiences.
google avatar

Yelp
For somewhere to be called Caves, I really wish that it felt more like a cave, or a wine cellar rather then a modern tavern, The food is French Americana, or NW European as they call themselves. The food tasted well enough, my only qualm is I order my steak blue rare, and was served medium, I'm sure they would have fired me a new steak, but I'm not one to send thing back to the kitchen. I just right about it on the inter-webs. ‍ I did enjoy the large drink selection, and the house cocktails are very well curated. Our waitress was also very laidback and informative of question we had about the menu, so there's a plus for service. All in all pretty standard little tavern. Will probably go back in the future.
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
Cocktails were unique and tasty. Staff efficient and helpful. We had the Burrata app for the table and it was very good. I got the Lingcod Picada. For me it could have been more flavorful and less soupy. Husband got the Radiatoti. It was also very wet and soupy, the flavors were good and the pasta was done well. I would recommend going for apps and drinks. Great vibe and cool looking bar.

Yelp
Very good food and service, reservations recommended. We started with the Toasted Ravioli with a VERY spicy arribbiatta sauce but delish. Then we had the Sliders and Burgers with fries, Albondigas (meatballs, not the traditional mexican soup). For dessert we had the divine Panna Cotta and Sticky Toffee Pudding with the best decaf coffee I have ever had.
google avatar

LaRae B.

Yelp
We dined here last weekend and the food was fabulous. We ordered the bread and butter which was so much more than we thought: delicious bread with a from-scratch, herb-y compound butter. For our mains we had the moules and frites and a Mediterranean-inspired chicken dish. The moules were super plump and cooked perfectly. Not rubbery or dry. The chicken was very good. They used dark meat which I prefer and the spices were warm and unique. We felt the food exceeded our expectations with taste and creativity. We finished with dessert. A mint ice cream, but you could tell they used fresh mint and a few other herbs. The ice cream was also slightly salty which strangely worked. Great job!

Yelp
I went during brunch time, I had the biscuits and gravy with a fried egg. Food was good, but definitely their breakfast leans towards the healthier side. Modernized breakfast place, which can be seen in the food and the design of the place itself. Employee was kind, calm, and friendly. I can see the place being great for a nice brunch with friends. I also heard that the menu is really good for dinner. The kombucha is yummy, if that's your cup of tea!!

Steven S.

Yelp
We went to Caves for an early Sunday dinner. The service was great and the food was excellent. The other benefit of going in early was the happy hour pricing on the appetizers.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Definitely enjoyed out meal. Options were a little limited but what we got was really good

Amy G.

Yelp
The food is decent but the service is always terrible. They seem untrained, unattentive and indifferent. I asked for a breakfast sandwich without cheese and asked if it was otherwise dairy-free since I'm lactose intolerant. the server said they thought so but did not confirm. turns out there was dairy in the bread, which I learned after I called in afterwards not feeling great. i have given this place a shot every few months but am finally done. spend your money elsewhere if you don't want to be disappointed

Amy K.

Yelp
Best brunch in town! They always have good food and service. We sat at the bar one Sunday and the service was still top notch. This is our go to brunch spot. You must try the chicken and waffles! The soufflé is also amazing. We have not had a bad meal here.
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
We come here often for the happy hour which I think they call social hour for the $5 plates! The sliders are some of the best in town, the meat is high quality paired with a mouth watering bun that's perfectly sweet. I also order the ravioli which is also only $5 during the social hour, it's crispy on the outside and topped with a red sauce you just can't get enough of. The ambiance is nice, kind of a romantic vibe but definitely okay to check this place out if you're solo. I've come I. After rock climbing so you won't feel under dressed if you're not all done up but can also dress up and feel like you fit right in. My only complaint is the service has never been great, they get your order sometimes quickly but rarely come back to check on you. The food gets all the stars here.

Yelp
I was here once before and thought it was okay but forgot that I had this time around-it's been remodeled and is much nicer - it no longer has the previous cave-like ambiance. I found the food and drink very disappointing. The menu advertised bone marrow, which is why I picked the place but was too excited to see that they took this lovely delicacy and mixed it with butter. That's on me, of course. However, the final product was not good. The marrow was smoked and when combined with the butter, gave off-smoked salmon vibes-no discernible flavors of bone marrow. I was utterly crestfallen. The pickled Brussel sprouts were an equally poor choice of preparation. The little smear of parsley gremolata was delicious. Stroganoff was good. The warm kale salad was not inspiring. Our family normally devours any salad but this one - not enticing. The ingredients were all fine and fresh but something in the combining did not equal a salad suitable for snarfing. I ordered a South African sparkling wine (Benguela Cove) with minimal intervention. I thought it was redolent of romaine lettuce but my dining companion accurately described its dominant note as roasted chilies or bell peppers. It was, perhaps, methoxypyrazine. I had been curious about new wine and minimally messed-with wines. Now I know I will take a few interventions, thank you. The restaurant was clean, ingredients were fine, nothing old, off, or burnt. All in all it was not horrible but a very meh dining experience. I prefer the block 15 tap room - simple food prepared correctly, very good margarita.

Ashna R.

Yelp
Chicken and waffles: A group of friends and I ordered three servings, but unfortunately, all came with raw and gummy chicken. Despite informing the server, we were met with dismissiveness and a condescending tone which was unprofessional. My friends are now starting to feel sick due to the raw chicken. Not a fan of the experience.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
First time back since the remodel. Lovely ambiance, wonderful food and superb service. I had the Ling Cod Piccata and have to give it 10 Stars out of 5. Light batter, perfectly cooked and placed on bed of freshly made Spatzle drizzled with fantastic Piccata sauce.

Riley W.

Yelp
Caves is a good restaurant but not one of my favorite places to eat in Corvallis. I would recommend the polenta cakes that were good and had a unique texture. I would also recommend the soft pretzel. The service was nice and the restaurant is pretty.

Tracy B.

Yelp
We vowed we would not return after our last experience here, but since we heard there was new management we decided to try one more time. The remodel of this space made a huge difference. No longer is it dark and uninviting. Now it is fresh, open and cozy. We found the food menu a bit precocious and the drink menu, although long, underwhelming. All that said, the service was attentive and helpful, and our food was delicious. We will definitely return.

Yelp
Zero expectations walking in, blown away by all of it. Inventive menu executed to perfection, tasty cocktail, and an Oregon beer my husband actually liked! Gracious, attentive service. We could find fault with none of it. Loved the coziness inside, too. We had a combo of entrees and small plates, topped off with a sticky toffee pudding that was the best thing I have eaten in years. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Niki D.

Yelp
Gather hour! While my pictured cocktail was actually normal priced I had to take a picture of how pretty it is. The fluff and ease was a gin and pea flower delight and all of our (unpictured) happy hour snacks were flavor-fests! Smoked olives.. extremely Smokey and tasty if that's your jam. The cheese spread with the pretzel was an extremely funky Camembert and was bold and fun. We also enjoyed the simple but flavorful greens and the nicely balanced burrata with accompaniments. We will return.
google avatar

Megan F.

Yelp
The service and the ambiance is very nice. Its probably one of the nicest restaurants in Corvallis but the food is very hit or miss. Honestly it's a bit expensive for the quality of food in my opinion.

Elan R.

Yelp
Cute ambiance! If you're looking for somewhere that lacks flavor, this is your place. Good service, but needs improvement in the taste dept. food was also cold, the pasta was sticking together.

E. L.

Yelp
We loved this spot! We landed here today during 'Gathering Hour' which includes a little menu of small plates for 5.00 along with the main menu. The fried chicken was AMAZING and just the right size with a salad. We also ordered Oysters (YUM!) and roasted carrots. We had a delightful, dark-haired server- (I wish I knew her name) who was delightful- pleasant and checked on us just enough- great service- fabulous food! Not sure why only a few people were here? Not a college hang-out place- more bistro/chic/modern. The music didn't match, but wasn't annoying either. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
The food scene in Oregon is legit as is the farm-to-table culture. So when I planned another vacation to Oregon, I had an idea of what I was looking for and Caves fit the bill nicely with its European/American inspired dishes using Pacific Northwest ingredients. Here is what we had! F O O D -Bier bread pretzel: Handmade by Block 15 bakery, served with house bier cheese sauce. This delightful little appetizer was yeasty, a little salty, and so fluffy and chewy! I had a difficult time deciding if I wanted to dip in cheese or that local whole grain mustard. Order it! 9/10 -Chicken and Apricot Tagine: Spiced chicken thighs with braised apricots. Served with paprika oil and basmati rice. This aromatic North-African grabbed our attention immediately because we could smell it before we even saw our server bring it over. Personally, this was my favorite of the dishes because those layers of flavors worked so well with each other. Seriously addictive. 9/10 -Lamb Bolognese: Braised Andersen Ranches lamb, rosemary, tomato, Gathering Together Farms fava tops, pea greens, fresh radiatore pasta. Served with ale bread. I have a serious complaint with Caves on this. There were plenty of lamb pieces so that was great. And the sauce was tasty too. But holy hell why was the sauce so light and watery?! We were all just disappointed. Bruh, I like my bolognese sauce thicc so this was a damn shame considering how good it was. At least they gave me a piece of bread to sop everything up. 8.5/10 -Twice baked soufflé: Farm fresh eggs from Winn Farms, chevre goat cheese from Alse Acre, and shiitake mushrooms from The Mushroomery. Pretty looking and pretty solid. My least favorite though. 8/10 -Death by Snu Snu: Well someone here is a Futurama fan lol. This was an awesome little tiki drink with a blend of rum, pineapple, passionfruit, orange, lime, hibiscus. Nice one for hot weather. Just close your eyes, take a sip, and pretend you are on your own private island. But be warned! This dangerous cocktail was sweet and deceptively strong. How fitting considering the name. 9/10 -Old Fashioned and Whiskey Sour: Both are solid choices. Surprisingly, bother were also light/refreshing and tasty...which are not adjectives I normally use to describe such drinks. Super easy-drinking. I was concerned when I noticed my girlfriend actually elected to take more than one sip of each. 8/10 S E R V I C E & A M B I A N C E Service was impeccable. Folks in this state seem much friendlier and that apparently translates to better service too. Our guy gave great menu recommendations and provided valuable insight on some items. Food came out in a timely manner. The weather was nice and there was a dog in our party so we decided to dine al fresco. The tables/benches were a tight fit so don't expect to be seated with a party of 5+. E X T R A I N F O -They host several cool little events such as their Monthly Tasting Series (featuring local beer and small bites) and Caves Supper Club dinners (multi-course exploration of food and drink inspired by a particular region, ingredient type, or culinary tradition). -If you are a local, sign up for their monthly newsletter to receive notifications on new menu items and upcoming events. -Unable to accommodate to-go orders for weekend brunch.

Yelp
Went here for New Years Eve dinner. Ordered the Duck special. I literraky received a piece of duck that was about 4 or 5 inches long, an inch wide, and maybe a quarter of an inch deep. Two bites. $32! Are they kidding me? And the sides were so salty they were inedible. I gave small pieces of the sides to the people I was with, and they couldn't believe how salty they were.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, clean restaurant, friendly and prompt service. Very impressed by everything. The menu is diverse, the drink selection offers many local options. Had the apricot tangine chicken and it was cooked and presented beautifully. Would certainly come back!

Yelp
Wonderful rotating menu with a variety of different cuisines. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff that always make me feel welcome. Great happy hour, only possible qualm is that everytime i find something on the menu im crazy about and could eat everytime, it gets removed within a couple months.

Yelp
Food was excellent, but we only found that out by being willing to eat outside on a grey Sunday morning. The restaurant was half empty when we came in shortly after 10AM and were told they were totally booked. We opted to take one of the empty tables outside after they graciously offered to turn on the outdoor heaters. We were then mostly ignored during the long wait for food as the lower class, outdoor citizens. We left around 11:30 when several of the indoor tables we could have sat in were still empty. So either the restaurant is really bad at managing reservations or people are jerks and don't show (which could have cost the business revenue had we not been willing to eat outside). Moral of the story for me is I will make a reservation next time because the food was good.

Yelp
...for pretentiousness...So get this. My wife, adult son, and I showed up for brunch one day on brisk February morn, right after opening. Only 2-3 tables in the restaurant were occupied, but alas we did not have a reservation. Let me emphasize it was clear the restaurant was not going to fill up in the 30-60 minutes it was going to take us to eat. However, the lady at the front told us that since we didn't have a reservation our only option was to eat out in the cold at the outside tables. Now, I get that there was a minuscule chance that perhaps a tsunami of people with reservations was about to all roll in all at once, but with the light downtown traffic, the very early hour, and our small party factored into the probabilities, I find the odds of that to be pretty darn small. The polite lady host clearly looked like she knew her statement was ridiculous. I'm sure the food is very good.

Yelp
Three words, DRY AGED BEEF. Caves was our first favorite restaurant after moving to Oregon. They are open late and have 2 happy hours with a special menu. You can get the dry aged steak and frites on the cheap if you hit them during the happy hour. They are located right next to Block 15 and host my favorite beer of theirs, Alpha. They also have a book I refer to as the encyclopedia Beertanica with hundreds of beers, ciders and ales from all over the world. Brunch at caves is another matter all together. The spicy bloody mary and the eggs Benedict they serve make me want to bring the camper out so we can down more than one and not have to drive home. Caves wins again.
