Caysorn - Thai Southern food isn’t new. It’s been a balcony stalwart on the first floor of the Prince Centre for nearly 15 years. What’s even more remarkable than its longevity in a climate where even good restaurants close down, is across this period, it has stayed true to its owner’s vision. After migrating here in 1973, Chalio Tongsinoon, wanted to serve us the spicy and flavoursome southern Thai cuisine we were lacking. Despite being told dishes like kanom jeen (soft fermented rice noodles served with fish-based curry sauce and fresh vegetables) wouldn’t work in Sydney, six variations on this dish are still on Caysorn’s menu today. We opt for kanom jeen nam ya kati ($17.90) where the curry sauce poured over loops of noodles is blended with flathead, coconut milk and kaffir lime. Load up on fresh and pickled vegetables at the restaurant’s salad bar to enjoy with this tasty and quite spicy dish. There’s also a DIY element to the miang goong ($26.90) with betel leaves passed separately to the mound of Thai salad. Here you’ll be dodging scud chillies in the slightly sweet mountain of crisp school prawns, lemongrass, ginger, shallots, toasted coconuts, and ground shrimp, to wrap your own. Nahm prik kapi ($24.90) is an omelette made with a leafy fern we consider an invasive plant. It’s mild and easy to eat with a small amount of spicy shrimp paste. Super sweet floor staff did gently try to dissuade us from ordering the jungle curry with red spot whiting ($26.90). Listed on the menu with three chillies, it’s a ballistically hot collection of Thai eggplants, holy basil and fillets of whiting. There’s a reason there’s an ice cream cart in the centre of this colourful space. I resort to taking pinches of the sticky rice that came in a set ($24.90) with spongey grilled pork jowl and papaya salad (which was also hot). While this restaurant kicked my butt, I loved its unapologetic, punchy Southern Thai cuisine. They also allow BYO ($3.50/person) but good wine is probably wasted against such lively cuisine.

This was my second visit to Caysorn Thai after first discovering it by accident in 2022 when staying nearby, and I was impressed by the delicious food. In 2025, I was brought here again by a tour and immediately recognized the restaurant as the interior is still relatively the same. The food remains tasty—loved the green soup, fried chicken, and prawns. The omelette was quite ordinary, if not a bit underwhelming. The service consider as quick and good. Still, I highly recommend stopping by after shopping at Paddy’s Market for a satisfying Thai meal.

So good, but so spicy! :) A very unique regional flavour (difficult as there are so many thai restaurants in Syd) Recommended: - any curry with the caysorn curry paste, if you can tolerate heat - the iced pandan drink (the flavour is so strong!)

Came here from Reddit's raving reviews. Ended up leaving with a disappointed and upset stomach. Food was very poor and lacked any care. Portions didn't resemble price at all. Just absolute heavy neglect on produce, presentation and overall quality. Service was not note worthy (which isn't a bad thing). What can be said though, we ordered 2 bowls of rice, instead receiving 1. Asked for the second bowl and they proceed to fill 1/2 of the 1 bowl 🤷🏽‍♀️. Paid for both but that's probably on us not standing up for our selves. 😥 Papaya salad decent. Spent over $100 on disappointment. Wouldn't recommend. *photos attached obvi we've taken a scoop from them so not 100% accurate. 1 scoop was made to both. Over $27 on each.

Google
Great Thai foods. It was very tasty and authentic Thai dishes. Especially liked: Tom yum soup, crispy pork belly with Chinese broccoli, crispy fried baramundi, BBQ pork cheek. Other menus also good, but the ones above were excellent! Didn't get to take pictures on the menus above, only took few dishes. Service was good. The place itself was a bit disappointing, as it has weird smell when you came inside. It was busy and loud on Friday evening. This not so good atmosphere was okay compared to the foods. Overall, really recommend Thai food restaurant.

A Hidden Gem for Lovers of Southern Thai Cuisine If you’re a fan of bold, spicy flavors and authentic Southern Thai food, this place is a must-visit! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like family — warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. The atmosphere is relaxed yet vibrant, perfect for anything from a casual dinner to a special night out. The menu offers an impressive variety of dishes, each bursting with flavor. We tried the Gaeng Tai Pla, Kua Kling, and Cha-Om Omelet with Nam Prik Kapi — all cooked to perfection with just the right level of heat and depth. You can really taste the love and tradition in every bite. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates real Thai food, especially from the south. Don’t miss this spot if you love it spicy!

Google
I visited Caysorn Thai Restaurant in Sydney and tried three delicious dishes: •Yen Ta Fo with Wide Rice Noodles – tangy pink broth, crispy wontons, and perfectly cooked noodles. Unique and full of flavor. •Stir-Fried Pork with Shrimp Paste (Moo Pad Kapi) – bold Southern Thai taste with rich shrimp paste, chili, and herbs. A rare dish done really well. •Red Curry Pork Ribs – tender ribs in a rich, aromatic curry sauce with kaffir lime leaves. Perfect with rice. For anyone looking for authentic Southern Thai food in Sydney, Caysorn is a must-try. #thaifood #sydneyfood #southernthai #authenticthai #caysorn #genastar

A fantastic hidden gem of a restaurant. Was trying to find a restaurant to use my GoodFood gift card I had been given as a birthday present. Been to 3 other restaurants that were listed on the website to use the card which all refused. Was about to give up when my friends and I found this place. They were more the willing to accommodate us. Extremely friendly staff, food was ready quickly, and tasted amazing. So happy with this place. Thank you for making the night so enjoyable. Highly recommend visiting.

Yelp
Has some difficulty finding this place using Google map because it is on second floor of the building. But food was very good. We just got stirred fly Chinese watercress and chicken cashew. Food was excellent.

Yelp
Yelpers! This is it. Awesome thai... Without the fancy expensive shop wrapped around it. Want perfect pad Thai? As in... Transported to Thailand pad Thai? This is it. Want insanely spicy food (they warn you!) in some dishes? This is it. Absolutely epic. The ambiance is nice.. But again not like some of the 'thai' places that come up with modern insane ambiance yet only ok food. This is in a Kind of shopping center... And although clean and peaceful there is no pumping music and fancy lights! Oh and... Guess what? They are super friendly too! This is a chef-created shop after all... Makes sense I suppose! Thanks caysorn!

Yelp
Very friendly staff, nice place to sit and eat, good value, central location. In addition to that they also have some somewhat unusual dishes that you might not find in your average suburban thai takeway so definitely worth a try.

Yelp
Great restaurant, that offers delicious food at prices way below average for Sydney. The food is always prepared with fresh ingredients (nothing frozen) and although the food is a bit spicy for me, you can always tell the staff and they will prepare it with less spices, but it still stays very tasty and not too bland. The service is great and waiters are very polite, welcoming and always serve you with a smile. Definitely recommended!
