My best friend Regina used to work there when we lived in Melbourne, and this bar truly became my favorite place❤️. It holds so many special memories definitely one of the biggest reasons I want to go back. Elijah, Charlie, and Regina were absolutely the best, and they made it unforgettable.

Came by here for some last cocktails when we were visiting Melbourne and was pleasantly surprised when we walked inside, had a great vibe, staff were friendly and cocktails were amazing. Looking forward to going back!

Had such a smooth espresso martini with the perfect amount of frangelico to give it a great hint of hazelnut.

DO NOT HAVE AN EVENT HERE. Sadly, I chose this venue for my engagement party. After 4 months they have not returned my deposit, which they insisted had to be $250 instead of the $150 advertised. They have no reason to keep it as we stuck by every rule and didn’t make a mess. In fact, WE deserve some compensation. The owner is rude and arrogant. He is ignoring my emails about the deposit and many other issues we had on the night. We were charged more than the advertised prices for food and drinks, and the food we ordered didn’t even match the food we were given. I was serviced meat as a vegetarian, gluten as a coeliac and it took 3 tries before I was given something edible (despite their menu saying GF/V on every item we ordered.) After telling me that NOTHING was gluten free (again despite it being advertised that way), and attempting to serve me meat AGAIN, the owner, Amit, went down to coles and got some corn chips and chopped tomato and served this to me cold as ‘nachos’. - this was my engagement party dinner. Only book this place if you wish to look back on a special night with disappointment, anger and regret, as well as losing a few hundred dollars. Amit, you know how terribly you messed up our night. The least you could do is respond to my emails and send me back my deposit. Terrible business owner, I hope you don’t scam your staff the way you scam your customers.

The best kept secret of Smith Street. Huge thanks for hosting our motley crew in your "Vault", an amazing BYO party venue and zero cost with $750 spend at the bar. Another massive thanks to the stunning staff for dealing with our shenanigans. True legends and highly deserving of praise. Your tireless labor did not go unseen, kudos.

Please read this before hiring this place for an event!!!! My fiancee and I had our engagement party here. The night was full of disappointments, especially considering my fiancee is coeliac and vegetarian and we had selected food options which composed of mainly vegetarian and gluten free food (as advertised on menu). We have multiple emails sent to the owner discussing her dietary requirements, with the owner reassuring us that the food will be gluten free and vegetarian as shown on menu. But that was not the case. On the night, my fiancee was handed food that was neither vegetarian nor gluten free. After checking with staff, we realised that they hadn't been advised of our dietary requirements at all, that they don't serve gluten free food, and that the menu would have been wrong. Not a single dish that was brought out that night was gluten free. Many food items we selected and paid for weren't brought out at all. After many complaints, my fiancee was given nachos that were gluten free.... but covered in minced meat. We are vegetarian!!!! After several more hours, she was handed a bowl of corn chips, with tomato and onion on top. THAT was what she had to eat at her engagement party. No it was not a listed GF menu item that we had ordered. It was a random thing they whipped out to give her something to eat. As for the drinks, we had been told via email we could start with $750 on the tab (says this on website too), but once we arrived they let us know it started at $1k. We also noticed he had sent us a drinks menu with higher prices than what was advertised on his website. After questioning this and him responding to other questions but avoiding any mention of the prices until we had asked 3 times, he agreed to honour the cheaper prices as per consumer law. While ordering drinks on the night, the staff did not honour the cheaper prices which the owner had agreed to honour, as he did not let them know about this agreement. The lack of organisation and ability to provide what was advertised caused what should have been such a special night, to become so stressful and overwhelming. No accountability was taken whatsoever. Lastly, the deposit is advertised to be $150, and refundable after the event if there's no damage. Yet in an email the owner said the deposit would be $250. This was not refunded into our bank account even after an email asking for the deposit back a few days after the event. It has now been over 2 months, the email remains ignored, and no deposit has come back to us. The website also states that the basement will comfortable fit 60 people however with 58 guests we couldn't fit, and had to scatter to the public upstairs seating, and the outside seating as well. This caused us to run back and forth all night to get time with all of our guests, with not a single part of the night where all ur guests could be together in the section we actually hired as we simply couldn't fit. All together, it was an AWFUL experience. If your event is an important one, DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!

Good drinks. We both liked our drinks. There is a tiny tiny venue downstairs that does shows. We didn’t go. And they have little booths for privacy. It’s a bit overpriced. Rustic is a good word to describe this place. Oh and a bit of a complaint. The bartender wasn’t so informative or willing to try something different. But the drinks were fresh. I’d recommend coming here.

Honestly, such a good staff every time, the vibe is a bit grungy but the local grungy, music slaps every time, as a local spot they do spot on cocktail requests (ask for aviation sour) and just all around wholesome vibe

In a city as expensive as Melbourne it could be considered an achievement to get tipsy for anything less than about fifty bucks. At Dirty Secrets on a Friday that figure is more like $20. Its cocktails are that lethal. A tiny little cocktail bar down the Gertrude Street end of Smith Street, Dirty Secrets has a 1920s vibe, a killer cocktail menu and a rather incredible happy hour on Friday evenings boasting the most potent cocktails I've ever imbibed for a measly $10 a pop. Particularly noteworthy is the 'Jackie Brown', a rum, chocolate and vanilla liqueur confection 'finished with house made Chilli Bitters served on the rocks'. Just beware the fresh red chilli served with this baby, I've spent more than a few evenings gurning due to a burning mouth thanks to the seemingly erroneous belief that chili + chocolate + copious amounts of booze results in something other than pain. Dirty Secrets' best cocktail? It's incredible 'Wake Up Call' espresso martini. Just what you need on a Friday evening after a tough week at the office. I want a drink.

Often referred to as simply 'Dirty Secrets'. Well I'll let you in on my dirty secret - you can find me here almost every Friday evening between the hours of 5-7. Why you may ask? Cocktails. But not just any cocktails. Happy hour deliciously well made $10 cocktails! In fact they have happy hour from 5-7 Monday through to Friday, which makes 'Dirty Secrets' a great meeting place for a few cheeky drinks before you head out to dinner or to other various drinking holes in the Fitzroy area. Although a word of warning - if you are thinking of doing the latter then only have one or two drinks at Dirty Secrets - their cocktails are pretty lethal. My favourites are the Tommy's Margarita (made the proper way with agave syrup for sweetness instead of orange liqueur) and the 'Wake-up Call' (a classic espresso martini with a twist of Frangelico instead of the traditional coffee liqueur).

This goooOOOOooorgeous cocktail bar is the place to go if you have any Dirty Secrets to share, even if you don't they make killer cocktails. Stepping inside the bar feels like steppig back into the 'glam' of the 1920's. The dark interior with red lighting makes you feel that just about anyone could be tucked into a corner discussing the secrets of the universe whilst sipping on cocktails. The fully stocked bar appears to have the freshest of ingredients and happy hour 5-7pm Monday through Friday offering $10 cocktails is an excellent excuse to start off a night or wind down after a busy day. There is also Death Star Comedy of Wednesday nights. Do yourself a favour and order a dirty martini, delicious!

Great little bar for a catch up with friends or a boogie downstairs. Surprisingly broad selection of craft beers at reasonable prices and some enticing cocktails.
