My family decided to celebrate my parents 50th anniversary at Lake Tahoe. My brother, his wife, my mom and dad, my wife, my 2 kids and myself were traveling on this trip. I was in charge of airfare, rental cars and some daily activities. My brother was in charge of lodging. When he sent me the link for cedar Glen I was skeptical. It was in a part of the lake where there wasn't much to do, all the casinos and everything are on the southern edge of the lake. I'm so glad we decided to go to Cedar Glen. Staying there made our trip perfect.
We stayed in little cabins but there are also hotel style rooms. Our cabin had a living area with TV and a fold out couch, a small eating area and kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The cabin was a great size and we had my wife and I and our 2 small kids. The kids sleep on the sofa sleeper. Our first night there, the owner (Franco)told us he would build a fire for us in their fire pit outside so we could make s'mores. What a great time! The owner was great, he engaged in some of our conversation but wasn't intrusive at all. We really felt like we were staying at a friends home. We ended up having a smore night every night the weather permitted.
In the morning we would go into the lobby to a pretty decent breakfast spread. Cereal, juices, coffee, pastries and the like were available all morning. I spent almost every morning sitting at the bar table by the window eating my cereal and looking out at the beautiful view of the lake. In the evening if you chose, Franco would open up a couple bottles of wine for you to taste of have a glass from the well stocked wine bar in the lobby.
There is a small restaurant inside the lobby but it wasn't open, and seating for about 25 - 30 people. The owners let us use it to have a small reunion one day and we used some of the kitchen to cook food.
My wife and kids spent a lot of time in the hot tub, there is a good sized pool but it was down for repair. There is also a sauna I went in just to check out.
If you are going to Lake Tahoe and want a trip away from the hustle of the south shore, I highly suggest Cedar Glen. The owners really made us feel welcome, we're very helpful and courteous. I really felt like we were staying at a friends house. Staying there really made my parents 50th anniversary a trip to rememberer.
