Cedar Manor, Windermere, Lake District, England - Explore & Book

"Cedar Manor seems to have found the perfect balance between B&B and hotel. Like the best B&Bs, it's run - with impeccable service and inexhaustible energy - by its owners Jonathan and Caroline. They know the area inside out, greet guests by name, and are helped by excellent staff. And, like all good B&Bs, it serves a great breakfast, be it the 'full Cumbrian' or healthier options like eggs royale. But it also has a dash of boutique hotel about it. The bedrooms - 10 of them - come with vivid designer wallpapers, Egyptian cotton sheets, waffle robes, perhaps a canopied (or four-poster) kingsize bed: not your average B&B. The building, a handsome 1850s greystone house with big arched windows and neatly striped lawns, can fairly be called a manor. Certainly, relaxing by the ancient cedar tree and pink rhododendrons, with a classy cream tea and glass of fizz, you feel like the lords of one. Indoors are 2 guest lounges, a well-stocked bar and delicious snacks (brought to your room if you prefer). The result of all this is a truly spoiling Lake-District hideaway with an intimate and attentive atmosphere; a place where discerning guests mingle happily, and return year after year. Highs An excellent location: 5 mins' walk from the town centre and 5 mins' drive from the lakeside (cruises, watersports)Beautiful leafy gardens make it feel very secluded and specialTruly warm welcome and firsthand advice from Jonathan, Caroline and staff, including great hiking and restaurant tipsEverything is spotlessly clean, and nothing is too much trouble for the staffIf you want more privacy, there's a smart little 1-bedroom cottage with its own living-dining space (and a very snazzy bathroom!) Lows No children under 10: this is a tranquil placeNot pet-friendlyBedrooms vary: some have better views, others bigger bathrooms (but all have their own character)Windermere is one of the Lake District's more touristy towns" - Kate Parsons

This was our third stay at the beautiful Cedar Manor with hosts Caroline and Jonathan and it certainly won’t be our last. It’s such a lovely place to stay, with beautiful gardens, amazing food, fabulous luxury rooms and such lovely warm hosts. ||The rooms are exquisitely decorated and have everything you’ll need for your stay. This time we stayed in Crinkle Crag.||The breakfasts are amazing and the list of choices is fabulous, allowing you to try alternatives each morning. ||Caroline and Jonathan are always there if you need them but you’re very much left to your privacy. ||We haven’t yet tried their afternoon teas but the descriptions reads very well and we spotted a few on our trips back mid afternoon. ||There is a beautiful bar area for drinks and the ambience is one of sheer peace and tranquility. ||I particularly love the selection of music whilst eating breakfast, so lovely and memory provoking! ||We will definitely be back … as we need to sample the much anticipated afternoon tea! ||Thanks again Caroline & Jonathan for such a lovely stay ahead of my birthday tomorrow!! |J & S.🍾🥂🧡xx xx

Caroline and Jonathan are wonderful, welcoming hosts. The attention to detail in the rooms, the gardens, the food are apparent immediately. |Breakfast is absolutely sublime. Loved the fact we could order the night before and then the courses were served at a pace that gave us the chance to savor every bite. The sitting room looking over the garden at the front was a comfortable place to sit and plan the day, or to relax in the evening. Unfortunately, we visited during a rainy spot in an otherwise warm week so we didn't get a moment to sit in the garden. So we'll save that for next time!

The rooms are beautifully furnished and no expense is spared, there are delicious breakfast options to choose from, something for everyone. The garden is beautiful. Thank you Jonathan and Caroline for making us feel so welcome.

Just back from a lovely overnight stay at the Cedar Manor Hotel. We were welcomed and shown our room which although not the biggest was spotless and well furnished. We were lucky enough to have a jacuzzi bath and also a very powerful shower. The toiletries in the bathroom were lovely and the added touch of cotton wool and cotton buds a nice thought. The bath towel and hand towels were very soft and the bath towels were a great size. Among the face cloths was a darker coloured cloth which was embroidered "makeup remover" which was great as I usually have to use toilet paper to remove my makeup when staying in a hotel. We also had dressing gowns. The bed was very comfy with good quality bedding. A few wee added extras in the room - a sewing kit and shoe cleaning kit. The fridge had bottled water and a bottle of fresh milk which was a lovely touch because usually the milk provided in hotels is small UHT Pods. It was also lovely to have fresh ground coffee and a cafetiere to make it in. There was a good selection of teas and hot chocolate which was nice to drink in the china cups. Also a lovely bar of chocolate with a photo of the hotel on the wrapper and a personalised welcome letter (as this trip was to celebrate my husband's birthday). The room had a safe and a fan. Two padded coat hangers along with other wooden hangers meant there was enough hangers and plenty of space in the wardrobe, also good drawer space. The info tablet was another nicety along with the DAB radio and the information about the hotel when the TV was first switched on was useful. We were asked to pre-order our breakfast the night before which is new to us but there was a good selection which we enjoyed when it came. The hotel has been upgrade to a very good standard without taking away the character of the building and the grounds are beautiful too. Thanks to Caroline, Jonathan and all the staff for ensuring our stay was perfect

We had two nights in the lakes and chose to stay at Cedar Manor. It is a beautiful building in a wonderful setting and an easy walk into Windemere. We were not hiking so there were no muddy boots involved notwithstanding the rain. It is a homely setting and family run. You can't put a price on local knowledge and Jonathan was very helpful recommending eateries in the town.

The property is historic and well appointed. The bedrooms are well furnished with lovely toiletries and the breakfast was great. However this isn't really a hotel, par se, but more so a guest house. The absence of any available food outside of breakfast or afternoon tea and any suitable areas to work in, as well as the ability to support basic requests like crisps, nuts or ice - given the lack of dinner options - was disappointing. It's a lovely spot in a great location if you want a lodging for the evening, less so if you expect a level of amenities one might associate with a hotel. Overall though I was personally a little underwhelmed, I think a leisure traveller looking to explore Windermere would really enjoy it!

A spacious, nice room with a large, very good and comfortable bed. The hotel is located in a nice and well-kept garden and has a classic look, just as you would expect when visiting this area.|The hosts are super nice, friendly and knowledgeable. They have really put their soul into creating a pleasant place with a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel is peaceful and a great starting point for exploring the area. Both on foot or by public transport with a bus stop right next to the hotel. We chose to walk from the train station when we arrived and were going on. It is a short walk, even with luggage. There is also plenty of parking on the hotel grounds.|A place that we really want to visit again. Especially to experience the fantastic afternoon tea again.
