Where to Stay in Istanbul When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Located in a former Ottoman mansion, I loved that Celine Hotel Ottoman Mansion retains historic atmosphere with wood ceilings, hardwood floors, and period furnishings; the rooms include a flatscreen TV, electric kettle, safe, and minibar, and there’s an excellent complimentary breakfast served in the hotel’s indoor garden." - Matthew Kepnes

This hotel is a boutique hotel featuring a beautiful spiral staircase which wraps around a class elevator serving all of the floors. The historic hotel offers classically decorated large rooms with high ceilings and full amenities. The breakfast was ample and delicious. It is close to old city attractions like the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar. In addition, the staff are super helpful and friendly. They can help you with transportation to the airport, dinner cruise reservations, and directions to wherever in the city that you want to go. I had a great time at the hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

I wrote my review on hotels . com and they edited my words which is totally inappropriate and annoying. So hopefully Trip Advisor will not.||A wannbe great hotel…but it is not. It is a small hotel with 14 rooms so it is not overwhelming in size or amount of clientele. They also have a working elevator.||But many of the concierge are busy talking to their friends on the phone, or acting like you owe them a favor for them doing their job. They really want you to book activities thru them so they can receive a commission. ||One fellow got annoyed with me when I mentioned that I had tipped the cab driver…being from NYC we always tip cab drivers, however I do not tip the concierge staff at a hotel…unless they preformed a miracle like last minute orchestra seats to Hamilton on Bdway. ||The front desk concierge is supposed to be helpful. The morning concierge John is happy to help me with my eSim card and answer your questions. And print out emails and travel arrangements. ||Perhaps some people should not work at hotels, especially those who explode at guests about the television in the room. |However, if the television is no longer connected to the hotel internet / wifi or if one moment the television works and the next moment it does not…it is not the guests fault. ||My first room on the fourth floor, was large and comfortable. However the sink drain in room is broken, so it is hard to wash out any clothing. The wall of the tub is so high I must be very careful to enter and the tub is slippery. ||As to how to empty the water in the tub the man at the desk ignores my question, so water sits in tub all night. Finally I realize if I pull out the drain stopper the water goes down. Why didn’t he know that? More to the point why didn’t he say anything?||Also there are no wash cloths or bath mats for safety. Being handicapped they are necessary, so I did request them and offered to pay for them however the concierge was able to provided them, courtesy of the owner. That was good.||The bottles of shampoo etc… some are full snd others are half empty. ||The towels in the tub/shower are so high up to reach I had to use my cane to push them off the shelf. And there no hooks to hang them up to dry. ||The shower head is so high up a 7 ft (213 cm) tall basketball player’s head could easily touch it. ||The main entrance needs hand rails. ||I only had the breakfast once so I cannot comment. ||Also the front rooms are noisy from all the street activity. ||If you leave your bags with them they sit in the hallway not in a locked storage room as per the information I received from them via a hotels.com email.||It seems as though the owner is busy with other businesses so he never checks in.

The hotel combined timeless old world charm with all the modern conveniences. The service was as comprehensive or as hands off as you like, and always courteous and welcoming. There was a delightful welcoming tray of nuts and dried fruits. The breakfast was a stunning array of culinary delights ranging from healthy to decadent, with the widest range of drinks I've ever seen, including tasty juice and all imaginable types of coffee. The room was spacious, with a lovely window nook, and large bathroom with soaking tub. The location was perfect, in walking distance of the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, Basilica Cistern, the Grand Bazaar and a hidden gem of another mosque with all the tiling more splendid than you can imagine (from Lonely Planet Istanbul guide). The tram stop is a short walk uphill.

I was thoroughly delighted with a memorable experience steeped in both comfort and character. To begin with, the location is enviable: mere steps from the storied heart of Sultanahmet, within easy walking distance of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks: the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and Topkapi Palace. The neighborhood hums with life, though it certainly is a touristy kind of life. While many accommodations boast a similar proximity to the city’s treasures, what distinguished this particular hotel was its quiet grandeur and architectural soul. The building exudes historic charm with graceful high ceilings, warm wood paneling, and my personal sanctuary: a private balcony offering a lovely panorama of the old city and the Sea of Marmara. I spent hours there watching ships linger on the horizon, waiting their turn to pass through the Bosphorus. The bathroom deserves special mention. Clad entirely in marble, it evoked the intimacy of a private hammam. The soaking tub was generously sized as I could stretch out completely, which is a rare pleasure. The water pressure was also strong, a small but crucial luxury. My room was immaculate, tastefully appointed, and clearly well cared for. Breakfast each morning was hearty and sufficiently varied to remain interesting over the course of my three-day stay. Service, while not particularly elevated, was perfectly adequate. In sum: come for the unbeatable location, but linger for the subtle magnificence of Ottoman-era details and the quiet sense of place that makes this hotel more than just a base for sightseeing.

Great stay at this lovely hotel. ||The hotel is very centrally located, close to the main attractions. ||The room had enough space and was clean and comfortable, did not have the best sound insulation though, but that was not a big issue. ||Personnel both at the reception and breakfast were extremely friendly and helpful. Great opportunity to get tips regarding things to do and where to eat.||Breakfast was good with eggs and omelettes prepared on order.||Very good stay, highly recommendable for a stay in Istanbul.

Quaint little hotel that is located in a renovated multi-story mansion. The building is more than a 100 years old and has it own charm. Our room was on the second floor and facing the street and you could hear the outside sound quite loudly. Despite this, it was quiet at night. The room was well equipped with everything we would need and had extremely modern amenities. Perfect for our single night stay of transit through Istanbul with easy access to some of the major sights.

Dear all, this small and very beautiful Hotel in an Ottoman style is also restored in that style to keep its origin! The building is really old don’t know from when but everything is in perfect shape smell and style👍🧿 The employees are the best and courteous I’ve ever met. Especially Mürsel gave us a feeling like we are in a house at friends and not in an hotel. Therefore my very special thanks to Mürsel for everything 🙏🫶 Nevertheless all members of the hotel are beautiful people very kind and extremely professional in positive meaning🫶 The hotel is 50-100 meters from Sultan Ahmet and Hagia Sofia etc. Amazing location !!! 🤩 The breakfast is good with selected choices. Everything really good to eat. No effects pure excellent Turkish breakfast 👍🙏 Thousand thanks to Mürsel and Staff also in the name of my family🙏💯🫶🧿 Regards Erkan Parlar

A few days in this well-tended, graciously staffed gem of a hotel will spoil a person! Every aspect exceeded our expectations, from reception to room to bath to breakfast. There's a modern, glassed-in elevator too, large enough for a wheelchair if needed. Location can't be beat, especially for first-time Istanbul visitors such as my partner and me. It's practically under the Blue Mosque and only a short walk from the Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cisterna, and the Topkapi Palace Museum. Lots of good restaurant options in the area as well. I'd return in a heartbeat.
