The Best Hotel Breakfasts We Ate This Year

"Florence’s Hotel Cellai takes its opportunity to show off how a hotel breakfast can really shine. Every morning, the staff works diligently to prepare a gorgeous buffet-style breakfast fit for royalty. Freshly baked pastries, ripe Italian fruits, and savory Italian cured meats spread across a large table in a small room that makes guests feel as though they are visiting someone’s home. Staff is also on duty to serve espresso and tea drinks, made to order. Sit and relax in the gorgeous Hotel Cellai dining room, sip on an Americano, try a pistachio-filled croissant, and get ready for the day of sightseeing ahead."

We loved the atmosphere at the Cellai. The remodeled castle fit right into our Italy experience. We loved the rooftop view. The water with oranges and mint in the lobby was delicious and reminded us to keep hydrated. Breakfast was plentiful, delicious, and there were many choices of what to eat. IT was a short walk to everything, restaurants, The David, and shopping. The staff was helpful with restaurant reservations and recommendations and when we had a little “glitch” in our room, they came immediately to help us. We would definitely recommend the Cellai to lure friends and family.

We stayed as a couple at the Cellai Hotel in Florence, chosen for its excellent location near both the train station and the city’s main attractions. From the moment we checked in, the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful—making us feel right at home.||The hotel bar is well stocked, with several cozy rooms to relax in, plus complimentary nibbles that add a nice touch. Breakfast is a classic continental spread, offering a good variety to start the day.||Our superior room was comfortable, though fairly standard, but the bathroom stood out—spacious, bright, and spotlessly clean. Getting around was easy: just a 10‑minute walk from the train station and only 5 minutes to Florence’s highlights.||Overall, Cellai Hotel delivered a warm and convenient stay, and we’d definitely return.

Lovely hotel with super friendly staff. Perfectly situated for exploring the many attractions. The breakfast is particularly impressive as is the cocktail bar with the excellent barman. This was our second stay here and we can’t wait to go back

This is a boutique hotel that has some charm, but the rooms are small and some of the bathrooms were ridiculous. The hotel has tried to utilize every inch of space to make bedrooms, but if they had done it properly and left out a few and made others bigger, the hotel would be fantastic. They are clean and the staff is very nice. The bartender is lovely and really makes you feel welcome! Five stars to him!!! I was given a room that was the size of a broom closet with a single bed...it was horrible! I was staying at the hotel for 3 days with my group and thankfully, they gave me a better room for the final two nights. No grown adult should be in a single bed...it was a joke! I had nowhere to put my suitcase and the hotel had tried to keep the 'boutique' feel buy putting him huge pieces of furniture that were not needed. The breakfast area was not conducive to big groups. The room where the food was situated was TINY and it was cumbersome to move in and out of. The staff were lovely, but they were struggling to refill food and get coffee percolated as it was a confined space.

I stayed here in the second week of June on my solo trip to Florence and the staff were so welcoming and accommodating to any questions that I had re’ the hotel or local places to visit! The room was quite small but had a full sized wardrobe with plenty of storage and the bathroom and bedding was clean. Breakfast was spectacular with a wide variety of options. On my final day I was due to leave prior to breakfast starting so called ahead and requested a bag to take away in the morning which they were happy to accommodate and gave me a bag with plenty of food and a water bottle. The hotel is a brisk 10/15 minute walk from the centre of the city but it nicely out of the way and feels safe to walk to.

Have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay and will definitely visit again.|We loved Florence and the Hotel Cellai epitomises the warmth, style and charm of the city.|It is a beautiful unspoilt gem. While not big compared to modern chain hotels it is comfortable and chic and has a real depth of character that the larger, somewhat soulless larger brand hotels can only dream of.|It is in a location that is convenient for practically everything you might want to experience in Florence, and is close to tram stops and bus routes if you'd prefer not to walk.|The staff were bright, breezy and welcoming and clearly loved their hotel.|Oh, and the breakfast buffet was glorious.||All in all for anyone that is looking for a little slice of elegance in beautiful Florence then I would thoroughly recommend.

The hotel is very old and no renovations being done. The roof and walls are leaking. They gave us a room with dirty floor and tube to begin with. You can hear water going down the building every night at 3am. There’s a terrace that opens way after midnight with people being loud, when you call front desk they refuse to help and make it silence so you can sleep. Maintenance start drilling walls at 7:30am. Beds are very uncomfortable. This place is more like a motel than hotel. Not worth it. Avoid! We paid $400/night and regret it from the day we stepped in our room
