Cellarium Café & Terrace is an absolute gem tucked inside the historic walls of Winchester Cathedral. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels calm, elegant, and welcoming — a perfect blend of history and comfort. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We enjoyed a wonderful selection, from a perfectly grilled panini with crispy fries, to rich, comforting soups full of flavor. The afternoon tea was a standout — fresh sandwiches, warm scones, and delightful pastries that felt both indulgent and refined. The coffee was smooth and satisfying, ideal for a relaxing break, and everything arrived fresh and well-prepared. The service was friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind, making the experience even better. The setting is truly special — dining beneath vaulted ceilings surrounded by centuries of history creates a peaceful, almost magical ambiance. Clean, well-organized, and thoughtfully designed, it’s a place you’ll want to linger. ⭐ Highly recommended if you’re visiting London & Winchester. Whether for lunch, coffee, or afternoon tea, Cellarium Café & Terrace offers quality food, lovely service, and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. We would happily return.

Hidden gem inside the Westminster abbey! You don’t need tickets to visit it though. Good food and interesting interior. As it’s part of the church you get the same feeling. I suggest they only add something more to the walls to make it more interesting and also add a kids menu but no complaints about the food. Super glad we found it.

Absolutely wonderful cafe. Tucked away at the back of Westminster Abbey in Dean’s Yard. Let the guards on the door know you’re going into the cafe and not trying to sneak into the back of Westminster Abbey. The service was fantastic. Wonderful, polite, accommodating staff. The food was absolutely delicious. High quality and a delight for the tastebuds. Photo is of the vegan lunch options one of us had. We had starters and mains for 4 people plus drinks. We also got a dessert to go - not normally a to go dessert but the staff we wonderful and made it work for us. A little bit pricey, but very much worth it.

The food was really good, and the service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was warm, quiet and comfortable, which made it easy to sit back and enjoy the meal. The tea and homemade scones are always perfect after a visit to the Abbey. Overall, a great spot with a nice balance of good food, good service, and a pleasant vibe.

We went to Westminster Abbey for Sunday service on October 5th and came to eat the Sunday roast, which is only served on Sundays. You can enjoy the Sunday roast as a course, but if you come with a group, you can share the food. We went with two adults and two boys, aged 12 and 11. We ordered soup, bruschetta, three plates of Sunday roast, and chips and shared them. We were quite full. If you have the chance, I recommend going to the service and eating the Sunday roast, which is only served on Sundays.

The meal was delicious, but the checkout experience was terrible. I told the waiter to split the bill, which was completely different from what I agreed to. She assumed that splitting the bill meant splitting it in half, so the £43 bill became £22 each. She told me there was no way to split the bill and then add the service charge. How would it be calculated for a single person? It's ridiculous. This simple little problem is perfectly solved elsewhere. Some restaurants only give one receipt and then add the service charge to the bill separately. It's not that this place can't do that; it's just that she didn't want to bother with it. I'll only be going there once, but congratulations! I'll spread the word. Never go to this place because they don't want to serve!

A lovely experience. The food is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere, service, and the taste made up for the price. The tea was amazing and the steak risotto was splendid as well.

Perfect for a light, quick bite after touring Westminster Abbey. Soup of the day was delicious and filling. Sandwiches and salads were also very good. Service was great, friendly, and not rushed at all.

Located outside Westminster Abbey, within the grounds. as you exit, you can follow signs to Cellarium. They close at 4:30pm. best for lunch or brunch. Their menu options offer a good selection and inclusive of people with allergies such as dairy or gluten or other products. The staff is attentive in helping you to getting the order that is free of your allergy. The lactose free ravioli was delicious. The salads were fresh and well seasoned. It can get quite busy so reservation is recommended or you have to wait. Service can be slow when they are busy. They gave us the wrong dish the first time but quickly fixed it. The ravioli was worth the wait

Date of visit (7 Aug 2025) - On a scale of 5 (excellent) -- MENU OPTIONS (5), PRICES (4 -- modest and fair), FOOD QUALITY (5), BEVERAGES : English Breakfast Tea (5), Coffee (5)(fyi - it's a dark roast much like Starbucks), Orange juice (5). SERVICE (4.5 -- they need another server or two). AMBIANCE: 5 (very rustic and unique!) Can get loud because the ceiling is vaulted and the floor is not carpeted.

Tea and coffee at Cellarium was part of our Westminster tour. The service was prompt and helpful although I expected a bit more than the very simple pastries served. It felt slightly like stopping at a diner - a cup of coffee and basic black tea with cream and blocks of sugar as add ins. I would have loved some design to the cups the drinks were served in. Perhaps not high tea, but something a bit more fancy than very basic sturdy white. All in all, it was a perfectly okay experience. But nothing particularly of note to make me return.

This place was hard to find it's behind the West Minster Abbey. We got our first rude server. She already had a face that's said she didn't want to be there. The food was ok. I got egg Benedict with a side of avocado my mother got scrambled egg but she said it tasted like powder eggs. We asked for water and we didn't get any acknowledgment from the sever so my mother asked again and the server gave us an attitude. My mother was about to go Puerto Rican Karen on her. The ambiance was really cool and the prices were reasonable but other then that, it was a Meh!

Not only was the food and tea delicious, but the experience is something I'll be talking about to everyone. I recommend visiting the abbey before to build up an appetite. We enjoyed afternoon tea and it was enough to serve as an entire meal for us. We got to try a few different teas and sampled all the sweet and savory items served up beautifully. Dining in the beautiful open terrace and experiencing the ancient grounds was a perfect way to spend the day.

This was actually a pretty good find for a pre museum day breakfast. It was a bit tricky to get to but we went to where the guided tours met and let the guards know we were eating breakfast at the cafe and they let us through. The restaurant is very pretty inside. My husband and I split the full English which was perfect for a long day of sight seeing. I really enjoyed the beans on toast and mushrooms all together. I also ordered the flat white coffee which was great and gave me the energy I needed.

Late post from last month. I was super excited about the king's coronation and although I was not able to be in London to witness the coronation, I was excited to celebrate with an advance booking for the Coronation afternoon tea at Westminster Abbey during a visit to London. And felt lucky to get a booking because the Coronation tea, was only available till the end of July. However, when the afternoon tea for 3 people came in one tiered tea stand plus a plate of scones and cream, it was very underwhelming for the price we paid. First, of all there was nothing that indicated it was a Coronation tea. A British flag or a King Charles pic on top of the tiered cake stand would have been fitting or even Union Jack serviettes. Also, all the teas I've experienced, sandwiches usually starts at the bottom, then cakes on the second and petit fours on the top. Our coronation tea, had cakes at the bottom, sandwiches on the second and then small savories at the top. The first and second tier was good but the cakes at the bottom tier were dry, crumbly and did not taste fresh. We thought it was suppose to taste like that and then we noticed other customers had left the cakes after they finished, so we knew we weren't the only ones who disliked the cakes. Service was good, white table cloth settings and a nice ambience surrounded by gray roof tops of London. I'm giving 3 stars because I expected more from the Coronation tea because there was nothing coronation about it, made worst with dry, crumbling, flavorless cakes. I'm sure the regular afternoon may taste better but not thinking of going back any time soon.

All I can say is meh. I was excited to do tea with my family here after a day in Westminster. All in all it was fair, not great but not terrible. The tea was ok and the food was mediocre (I guess they were the same in that regard). The service wasn't good at all. From the first greeting to paying our bill I felt the staff were unfriendly, robotic, and looked at us as a hassle they had to get through that day. Overall I'd recommend going elsewhere for tea. Spend the money and pick a more high-end place, it'll be worth it.

We came into Cellarium for our first breakfast during our first full day in London. We came since we were going to Westminster Abbey after so figured this was a good stop since it's right there. We had no problem getting a table and quickly looked over the menu. First breakfast in London means first Full English. This one didn't come with potato's/hash browns so we added them. What is great about a Full English is it's for sure enough for 2 people. As an American I never understood beans with breakfast but after this trip I get it. It was so much better then I expected. Beans on Toast with some Fried Egg is amazing. I was also a big fan of the Cumberland Sausage. My issue was my fried eggs were over cooked and not runny at all. Also after having a number of Full English Breakfast during my trip this was the least exciting one. If you are coming to Westminster Abbey Cellarium is for sure a place to check out since it's connected and it doesn't seem to get much traffic or isn't well known about.

The high tea was not inexpensive but it was delicious. I would probably go again and eat upstairs.

When you go to eat somewhere that was built in the 1400s, it's already pretty special. The room was an old food cellar used by the monks and was dressed up to be an eatery. Service was a tad slow but they were friendly enough. Coffee drinks were tasty and creamy. We did get food but no photos.

The food was good, a little pricey for the portion size but seasoned perfectly. We arrived between breakfast and lunch service so we had to wait for lunch service to start. Once they started serving the food came out very quickly. Tip: lunch service starts at 12:00 noon and you can't order until then.

Positives.....nice spot and friendly service. The couple we were with had the Christmas lunch and lots of food. Said was good. Our English tea left alot to be desired. We had ordered regular tea time not Christmas tea. We got Christmas tea and honestly just ok by English standards. Our least favorite meal during our stay.

Stopped in for breakfast with my family. This was a great little find. The food and service were good, but it was really fun to have breakfast in such a setting: Westminster Abbey. On this side of the river, there aren't a lot of quiet food options, and this was great. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

This is inside Westminster Abbey itself, and it is beautiful and quiet inside. If I wasn't a tourist, I could definitely see myself sitting there and doing work after eating my breakfast! The menu is a bit basic, but the staff is kind and the food was pretty good. I got a sausage sandwich, which was just sausages in bread and nothing else. I also got a flat white, which had way too much foam to be a flat white, but was still strong and good. One thing to note is they do not have takeaway cups. My friend got a pain au chocolat, and it was unfortunately cold. But my dish was tasty and prices were reasonable. I would come back more for the ambiance!

Food was really good, not a huge selection but they're good at what they know. The inside is lovely the room is a part of the Abby so it's got great ambiance. Where it falls WAY short is service. The waitress who served us was kinda rude. Would start talking to someone else while we ordered and then not end up bringing what we asked. Tried not to be too harsh cause everyone can have a bad day, but it was bad. When we asked her if they had ketchup she said yes and then walked away... I mean she answered the question but not exactly what we were asking for.

I was such a dude for thinking "afternoon tea" was just to drink a cup of tea around 15:00. But damn, this is what "Afternoon Tea" looks like!? Pretty fancy! My fiancé was determined to have "Afternoon Tea". I thought she was just wanting to enjoy the atmosphere of enjoying tea with other English folks who were drinking with her. Soon I realized that it was accompanied with a small tower of assorted sweets. Goddamn, it was such an art. Scones, biscuits, brownies, shortcakes, and even sandwiches! They were quite filling and, needless to say, delicious! Kinda tourist trap, I must say. But if you want to have quintessential English experience, this place serves you well.

We stopped here for breakfast before our Abbey tour. The eggs were well-seasoned. The toast was very good. The avocado was a little under ripe, but overall, it was a great breakfast. Walking through Dean's Yard and down into the restaurant was really pretty.

Service/atmosphere: Service was just terrible 1/5. The lady was just rude and she seemed like she was having a bad morning overall because she was treating all the other tables the same way. We went for breakfast and we thought it was going to be elegant being that it's connected to Westminster Abbey. Which btw I probably shouldn't say this but if you use the restroom right outside of Cellarium, you can just walk right into Westminster Abbey w/out paying. We didn't even know until we went inside and we noticed people with headphones and translator devices. Note we did actually pay in advance weeks prior so we had our tickets it just wasn't accounted for. Food: It was the most basic lemon cake I've ever had. It was dry af and it was tbh stale!!!! My uncle got their Sausage sandwich £5.50+£1 egg+£2 for avocado and he said it was decent and that's saying something because he likes everything. I got their Royale breakfast which is eggs Benedict and it was just decent. Salmon didn't taste fresh and the creamy sauce they lathered on it was too hard. Would I come here again? No

Another win. This is a cute little service restaurant inside Westminster Abbey. Our server was really nice and we all loved our food. The quiche was delicious and the desserts were definitely worth getting. You cannot go wrong with the pistachio and Victoria cakes. They were both very tasty. And this restaurant used to be the place where the monks stored their food and drink, so that's pretty cool. I love some history lessons :)

Bad experience, would not recommend. We thought it would be a neat experience to eat inside The Abbey, after dining here the only take away is we can say we did. We were ignored by staff while waiting to be seated, when we were finally acknowledged there was no smile or warm greeting. When are server came to take our order she just looked at us and said, yes? Our meals were small and pretty tasteless, pasta had no sauce and was watery on the bottom. Of our meals the sandwich plate seemed the most filling. There are so many food options around I would not recommend spending your money here.

Terrible service. Breakfast is severed until 11:45 but couldn't order at 11:29 and had to wait until 12 to order food. Ok fine, we will wait and order drinks and wait not a problem at all. Drank a Prosecco, would have wanted to order more and a pot of tea but were ignored. At 12:15 we flagged down I think the manager to order food since our server had not been back to check on us for over 45 mins. We are currently still waiting on our food. I am fine with waiting and such it's really not a big deal but for some reason we were ignored while our, and others waiters tended diligently to everyone around us. He walked by dozens of times and looked at us, blatantly ignored us and finally the manager had to flag him down just to have him bring us out food. His name was Alan and he is the worst server I've ever had in my life, I've had better service at McDonald's. If you decide to eat here and Alan is your server, run far far away.

I loved the views out the windows and skylights. Our server was attentive and very polite. I had a char-grilled chicken sandwich and a Quinoa salad that were both delicious. Small menu that changes but I had no problem finding a few things interesting. Plus you are in Westminster Abbey?

We had the soup of the day (creamy squash with something else), spinach and a cheese quiche, Victoria sponge cake, chamomile tea, and a latte. Everything was bloody delicious, and we would definitely come back here again. This café is inside the historic and beautiful Westminster Abbey. Service was good, the ambience and decoration are superb. This is really a can't miss restaurant in London.

This is one of the stops I'd been looking forward to for months. I know it's silly, but I really wanted to take Afternoon Tea here, on the grounds of Westminster Abbey. It was to be my first Afternoon Tea, and I wanted it to be special, without being overly dressy. The café itself is beautiful. It's in the former store house of the Abbey, and it's open and bright, and very comfortable to lounge in. There aren't many tables within the café itself, as it's small - much smaller than I had anticipated. But, they weren't very busy when we got there, so we had no problem being shown to a table. The tea was delicious, and the small assortment of cakes, scones and sandwiches were just enough to chase our hunger pangs away. My husband fell in love with the clotted cream, and I was quickly defeated by the two scones on offer. I couldn't finish everything! Our waitress was friendly enough, but she wasn't around as often as I would have liked, especially given the fact that the restaurant wasn't that busy that day. It wasn't such a big deal, but I would have liked a better explanation of what was on our tea trays, and wanted to ask for another pot of tea. Despite all that, I really did enjoy both the meal and the surroundings. It's an experience I won't be forgetting any time soon.

I wavered back and forth about whether we should do the tea here but I'm so glad we did. It's cool to say you took tea inside Westminster Abbey! The food and desserts are very simple but they were some of our favorites of all the tea services we had on our trip. Sometimes simple is all you need for a great time! I loved just getting to relax and take in all the history of the place and what we just saw over a cup of tea. It's not like having tea at the Ritz but it was a surprisingly fun way to grab lunch.

We sat upstairs in the terrace and it's a nice cafe, shame they didn't use bigger windows for a better view of the abbey, presumably that's why most people go! It was very, very warm as well. A groupon voucher got us sparkling afternoon tea for 2 for £29, normally £43. I don't think having the voucher helped the service, they seemed understaffed, we waited 20mins before even being acknowledged. As soon as I showed the voucher the waiter disappeared and we had no more interaction with him apart from plonking down our drinks and food. The highlights were the sandwiches and the prosecco. Egg mayo, coronation chicken and salmon, the classics. They were delicious, but 3 finger sandwiches seems stingy. The prosecco was light and easy to drink. The rest of it was very disappointing. 2 fruit scones, that tasted entirely of raising agent, with a tiny pot of jam and cream. Then 4 small cakes. A cheesecake that tasted far too floral, a heavy Victoria sponge, a very chocolately tart and a pistachio cake with a disgusting frosting. It wouldn't take much to improve the offering. More sandwiches and better cakes. Also it'd be nice, as it's for 2, to serve the food all on one plate stand. We had 1 each which filled the small table and made it hard to manoeuvre. There are so many fantastic afternoon teas offered for the same price in London, head elsewhere if you're looking for good food, atmosphere and service.

I had the soup of the day (celery and watercress, and came with bread and butter), and chicken atop a snow pea salad. The food was good (especially the soup) but not great; the atmosphere was also nice. The best asset of this restaurant is its location, which is perfect for those visiting Westminster Abbey. I was tempted to give 5 stars simply because this place isn't a tourist trap despite good business being inevitable.

This place is actually inside Westminister Abbey. Ordered the grilled salmon and tea. It was decent. Just note service is slow because they are understaffed here. Also great way to cut the long lines to get into the Westminister.

Marvelous breakfast before touring Westminster Abbey. Small, cozy, friendly and helpful servers made our breakfast perfect. I hope to return to enjoy the eggs Benedict and tea again!

Great English breakfast. They even let me sub out the black soup. Everything was tasty and it was a beautiful restaurant. Very quaint and quite impressive.

This s a hidden gem. Good food and very reasonable price. For example, a pot of tea is only £3. And where you can get a full English breakfast that is more British than having it in Westminster Abby.

Afternoon tea here is pretty amazing!! Firmdale's is still the best in my book. They just raised the bar really high in my book!

Best kept secret at the Abbey! A wonderful mix of old and.new! Looking for air conditioning? Have lunch or dinner at the Cellarium! Wonderful menu! Enjoyed the gazspacho soup of the day, so glad it's August with great tasting tomatoes! A nice Place to relax after a morning of walking!

It's not really a breakfast place but does serve some breakfast foods. It's more like a place you come to eat for the scenery, and not for the food..

Nice little cafe in the upstairs dining area. Just the right place on a rainy day to have some hot tea, scones, and cakes.

What a fantastic little cafe! Having tea and cake in here was really quite a treat and it's amazing that there is a cafe within the walls of Westminster Abbey (the cafe was opened recently in 2012). The service was quite good and the tea was everything I hoped a cup of proper English tea would be. The cakes were great too (especially the glazed lemon cake) and it was really a nice experience. They do have full meals here if you're hungry and I highly, highly recommend it, even if it's just to eat in a room that's from the 1400s!

We were really looking forward to the afternoon tea at the Cellarium Cafe and Terrace and were very disappointed. The service was extremely slow, we waited for ages for our menus and then to order and then again to get our bill. The tea sandwiches were all mayonnaise and no other filling really...they could at least give you something in addition to the mayonnaise in between the two pieces of bread. The sweets weren't good (they seemed like conference sweets from the 90's) and they seemed old/not fresh. The scones were the only acceptable thing, they tasted just fine. The actual tea itself was a flavorless bag tea. We really felt cheated considering it was 20 quid per person. It's a lovely ambiance, too bad they cheat you with the afternoon tea and bad service.

The ambience is really fantastic. However, the food is horrible, overpriced, and the serve SUCKS! We waited like 30 minutes for our pasta. How long does it takes to cook a gawd damn pasta? When we got our pasta, it tasted bland! It is just a regular taste of pasta that you. An cook at home. In conclusion, try to avoid this cafe. The food doesn't taste good. Yuck!

It's a small place but cool sitting in a place that's been around since the 1400s. Not the best scones or smoked salmon sandwiches but the rest is very good. Price extremely reasonable and service quite good. Kids eat free!

Excellent food for lunch after a very long visit to Westminster Abbey. While our waiter was a bit slow, the food was perfect. One of us had a roast beef sandwich and chips, while others got the 3-course, choosing soup of the day (amazing tomato and zucchini soup that I'm still dreaming about) and fish pie (yummy!). Everything was the proper temperature and hit the spot on a chilly, rainy London day. Dessert is just ok, but overall, this place is great!

Coffee was fine. Piece of chocolate cake to share. VERY dry. I am sure it was day old cake. I talked to the waiter about it, he told me they bring the cakes out and the air through the Abbey dries out the cakes. Well, maybe they should get a cake cover, or don't serve old cake. Tea was great, appreciated the different sugar cubes to use.

Inside Westminster, you dine in awe of your surroundings. Great lattes! Friendly staff.

Made a reservation for afternoon tea. The service was very poor and slow. The selection of pastries wasn't great either. Would not recommend if you are in a rush

Food was pretty good. We had afternoon tea, which came as traditional English high tea style. Kids were very impressed. The selection of small desserts and sandwiches were very nice. It was located under Westminster Abbey, but was very hot in April days, not sure why.

This was pretty disappointing overall. The service was fine. However, I had hoped to eat down in the pretty, white cellarium area, but they put us upstairs in a standard café looking setting, which I've now learned is their 'Terrace' area. The Terrace is fine, but is not worth going out of your way for. Most importantly, the menu options weren't that enticing and actual food left a lot to be desired; either lacked flavor or was (dare I say) way too sweet.

The Cellariium is an unexpected pleasure. We had expected a modest cafe but found a real restaurant serving good food in a charming atmosphere. We would definitely recommend it to friends.

Surprisingly good food for a cafe connected to such a major tourist attraction! None of us were terribly hungry so we got one sandwich, a piece of double chocolate fudge cake, and an order of chips between us, but it was all quite good! Best chips I've had in the UK, hands down, and the sandwich was incredible. However, the servers weren't terribly attentive- we had to practically flag them down for most things, and the cafe wasn't crowded, so I'm not sure what the issue could be. Also, I do think you need to tour the Abbey before accessing this cafe, which certainly limits its accessibility.
