These Are the 14 Best Cenotes in Tulum, Mexico

"Situated less than three miles south of Tulum and sharing a single entrance with a neighboring cenote, this lush, picture-postcard sinkhole is great for swimming and snorkeling; adventurous visitors can use ropes to swing into the water, and there are benches for relaxing afterwards. The combined entrance fee for both cenotes is about 200 pesos (~$10)." - Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty is a writer who specializes in covering destinations, resorts, and cruises for Travel + Leisure and other publications. Cenote Escondido (Mayan Blue)

We visited both cenotes, Cristal and Escondido. You buy tickets from Cristal Cenote across the street, for both its 300 pesos per person. Escondido was a bit larger and more clearer water. We enjoyed our time there, was pretty quiet even for a weekend. Would recommend taking a car, scooter or ATV to Escondido from Cristal, since even if its walkable, it is a "long" walk.

I preferred Snote Crystal, but this one was also beautiful. This Snote had fish inside so if you have a snorkelling mask, bring it. The water was also very clear and there was a rope swing. They do have lots of seating areas so it would be a great place to pack a lunch and hang out for a few hours. We also saw a lot of people going, scuba diving here.

You have to buy tickets at the other cenote down the street. 300mx for both. This one is the better of the two and is deep and beautiful.

Beautiful Cenote with lots of fish and turtles. I would recommend getting here right when it opens to avoid the crowds. You need to buy tickets across the street at the other Cenote (you have to buy tickets to both) it was 150 MX per person to get access to both cenotes. Lots of tables to sit and relax at. Don’t wear sunscreen in the cenote. I would recommend bringing goggles and a snorkel

What a spectacular place! We visited it around 11am late October and it was just us. Definitely bring a mosquito spray. Water is see through and you can make some amazing pictures. Definitely worth coming with snorkelling equipment!

Very beautiful cenote, not overcrowded at all, clear warm water and enough places with shade, for the hot days with powerful sun. How to get there: do NOT follow Google Maps; instead, before leaving the main highway, proceed for another 150-200 meters (coming from Tulum) and exit on the right side at the other cenote, where you can buy the ticket for Cenote Escondido too. Then ask for directions, it is easy to find (just across the street). Unfortunately, they force you to buy a combo ticket for both cenotes for 300 MXN.

We stopped at Cenote Escondo after visiting Tulum, and it turned out to be one of our favorite spots in the area. The place feels wild and peaceful surrounded by jungle, with crystal-clear water and small fish swimming around youUnlike many crowded cenotes, this one is quiet and natural, perfect for a relaxed swim or snorkeling. The water is incredibly clear, and when the sun hits the surface you can see deep into the rocks ; it almost feels like flying underwater. It’s a simple place — no music, no crowds, just nature. If you want to experience a more local, peaceful cenote near Tulum, this is the one to visit. Bring a mask, some water shoes, and enjoy the silence.

Recommend. Take goggles. And a packed lunch if you're planning to stay a while. Cenote Escondido is a long narrow lagoon, maybe 50m? V beautiful especially when the sun hits the water - it's so clear. So many small fishes. Very clean. Dec 2024 price for access to one cenote is €150. Access to both this and Cristal is €300 (CASH ONLY). I didnt get to Cristal. They close at 4.30pm I spent the afternoon here. So quiet and just lovely. You can change in the bathrooms which are well maintained. [Editing this while back in UK...and aching for some warm waters to swim in...it's bloody freezing here!]
