Cenote X'batun

Quiet, out-of-way cenote with high and low diving platforms. Excellent swimming in crystal clear water. Very inexpensive, but facilities are primitive. Main drawback was the steep, slippery staircase and the landing area at the bottom, which can be crowded. Watch your step!

If you like out of the way and not crowded cenotes, this one is for you. There were only about 10 people there when we went. So beautiful! No life jacket requirement, but you can rent if you're not a strong swimmer. But it is a little way out there and it feels like you're not heading in the right direction, but I think that keeps it less crowded. Would recommend to anyone!

Went today. Contrary to Google Maps you CANNOT enter via 261, you have to drive through Cacao. While the space is open until 5pm, ticket sales end at 4:25pm. I arrived at 4:28pm and they would not sell me a ticket. Frustrating. Ownership should take leadership of their Google Maps to provide up to date information.

Wonderful cenote. Probably one of the most beautiful ones I have seen (and that is a lot). Pretty accessible, no 4x4 necessary. You access via the pueblo of Cacao, and when you get to the entrance, you have to pay entry fee for the two cenotes, Xbatun and Dzonbacal . You can only access either cenote by paying there. They give you a card that you will give to the guard sitting at the gate about 900m further down the road. Fee: 75 mxn for nationals wirh valid ID & 150 mxn for foreigners. Considering that you get to see two beautiful and clean cenotes that are well taken care of, this is a pretty fair price. Xbatun was my favourite, it literally looks like it is out of a movie set. Accessible for everyone, I would say, as the stone stairs are in perfect condition and not steep at all.

Beautiful open cenote with thick vegetation that makes it a great place to connect with nature. This cenote is the entrance to an expansive underwater cave system. Cave-diving is posible. Amenities and a small shop are available at the entrance of Dzonbakal and X'batun. At the X'batun cenote there are very dilapidated bathrooms (out of order) and some shelter to change.

Beautiful cenote. I would recommend going early when there's not a lot of people.

Top 1 cenote, feeling in the jungle, we were alone. The whole area is clean, the locals preserve both cenotes. After a route through Yucatan, was our favourite. The difference in the price between foreigners (100 pesos) and nationals (50 pesos) I don’t understand, plus asking for a tip every single time. This is a general reflection of our journey in Mexico.

Cenote X'batun and DZONBAKALare within the same area. Google maps will make you come from highway 261 from the north side even though a road from the south shows up on the map. That is a private road so if you are coming from Uxmal or Cenotes Hacienda Mucuyché you have to drive up past them - per google maps. You will reach a 'ticket' area where you have to get your temp checked and buy tickets. Then you drive down the road off the pavement onto a dirt road to give your tickets to a guy. Then drive a couple of K until you reach Cenote X'batun. Some have complained that they were over crowded and all, we went in Jan of 2021 and they are really practicing social distancing - we were the only ones in the cenote! IMPORTANT NOTE if you can get to any cenote/Mayan site when they open or before noon - chances are you can have the place pretty much to yourself. Also you don't have to climb down a 100 foot hole in the ground on a sketcy ladder to get to this one. Pretty easy solid stair case to get here. Can recommend if you are in the Uxmal area
