Great church. I really loved the moments in there.

This is my church and for the most part it is well-run and on schedule. We sincerely give reference to our Lord through prayer and good attitudes. There are activities for all to learn and grow in our walk with Jesus, including an excellent Sunday school class at 9:40 each Sunday. We hope you will join us one day soon. Be blessed!

As we near Halloween, I wanted to share a story about this church. My children and I were trick-or-treating on Halloween. Life had dealt our family a few blows and we were healing. I'm from the Deep South and the blues and gospel is genetically imprinted in my DNA. The Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church had occurred a few months earlier and the story hadn't left my thoughts. We were walking home, and, I heard music from the church. Lively, soulful music. I had intended to peek into the church doors to allow my little ones the opportunity to see gospel in a church. We were met by a series of people who welcomed us and kept ushering us to join them. There was a band, gift bags for the kids in the neighborhood, to keep them safe on a rowdy night, and, there was just warmth. I sat in the pew, my white face by my children, younger than eight, and, I couldn't help thinking of Charleston. I was moved that the hearts of everyone we met that evening were still open to me. I will follow the events and goings on of this church. It is also is comforting to see a different version of Baptist than the one so often symbolic of white, oppressive power. These are the Baptists of my youth and I am forever grateful for the evening. Visit and say hi!

Will be going to that church very soon. My brother has his church glory to jesus n he is also a Pastor. But his church is too far from me. As im disable. I praise God in jesus name. Amen

Central Baptist Church is an excellent place to learn and grow in your spiritual walk. The members are friendly and willing to help. And if you want to really read, understand, and apply the word...get to Wednesday night's Bible study, it will enlighten and change your life.

Excellent Bible study offered on Wednesday- clear and understandable knowledge given about the Word

I have been asked quite a bit via messages here on Yelp if I have found a church in NYC yet that I can call a home. The answer is yes: Central Baptist Church. I am so relieved to have found a fresh community here in the city where the attendees are lovely and friendly, but more importantly, the message that is preached is the Word of God. The style of the church is very predicable: an intro, welcome, messages and updates, and then 3 praise and worships songs, the offering, and then the preaching. I appreciate how down to earth and "real" Pastor John Fils-Aime keeps his sermons and his jokes are refreshing. The pews are a little small, and the choir sometimes sings the same songs week on week, but all that is secondary to the message that I receive when I attend church. In terms of improvement, I do wish that there was more variety in the music sung as there are so many great gospel songs out there! Sometimes we sing three songs and they are all slower songs; I feel like we should have at least one song to really worship Him the way he deserves - with a clamor, dance, clapping, etc. I also wish that Pastor Fils-Aime was a bit more friendly after church and made it a point to get to know the newer members. I tried to introduce myself the first day and he seemed a little preoccupied with other things. I will try again though! :) Overall a solid church and very solid foundation on the buildling blocks of Christ's word. I have finally found a church that is not too big or small, and preaches His word with thought provoking sermons that push you to be the best you can be in His light. No fluff!
