Its one of my favorite places to buy traditional gifts from. I used to frequent the place with my colleagues from abroad to showcase our rich handicrafts in one stop shop displaying beautiful artifacts from all over India. They used to lap it all up, one pf them buying even silk curtains and kashmiri carpets (i wonder how much custom duty she paid for the extra weight) Be it kitchenware (gold plated, silver, brass, copper vessels), or chandan wooden items(idols, chessboards, rosaries), clothes, beautiful bedcovers, cushion covers, mats, amazing range of purses in all colors and sizes made from cotton and silk, intricately carved furniture, silver jewellery, ...every artefact tells a story of its native place edging you to take home a piece of our rich heritage.... its an all together different experience even if i don’t buy anything...just admiring the vast display of best of Indian handicrafts, spread over 4 floors makes my day. A must visit place especially to buy a unique gift for someone special!

The Emporium is located at just opposite of Janpath Metro station. It's a government venture and authentic place to buy souvenir items. Authentic and traditional Indian handicrafts materials including statue, cloths, wooden handicrafts, exquisite furniture, beautiful paintings are available here with an antique touch. Though items here seems expensive but looking at the craft work done, materials used and the unique design it seems reasonable. Overall a must visit to experience and collect beautiful artwork.

Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE) is a treasure trove of authentic Indian handloom and handicraft products. Established in 1952, this government initiative offers a wide variety of traditional and contemporary items, from clothes and ornaments to wood carvings, pottery, and stunning Indian artworks like Madhubani and Phad paintings. The store spans five floors, conveniently located near Janpath Metro Station, with limited parking available. Contrary to popular belief, CCIE caters to all price ranges, making it accessible for everyone. They even have a quaint Cottage Café on the ground floor for snacks and beverages, perfect for a quick break. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore India’s rich artisanal heritage!

Walking into the Central Cottage Industries Emporium in Delhi’s Connaught Place felt like stepping into a vibrant storybook of India’s diverse cultural heritage. I was immediately greeted by an array of colors and textures—from intricately woven silk sarees to stunning wooden carvings that seemed to tell tales of distant lands. Each section of the emporium is like a different chapter, showcasing the unique traditions and crafts from all over India. As I wandered through, I was especially drawn to the Pashmina shawls. A friendly staff member explained the art and skill behind the shawls, their origins in Kashmir, and how they’re handwoven with such care. I couldn’t resist picking one up and running my fingers over its fine, soft texture. It felt like a piece of history brought to life. Then came the textiles—each fabric, whether it was vibrant Rajasthani prints or Bengal’s intricate kantha embroidery, seemed to reflect the personality of its origin. I was also surprised to find that despite its premium, museum-like selection, the prices here are fixed and fair. No need for haggling, just appreciation for quality work! And while it’s easy to get lost in the beauty of each handcrafted item, the friendly staff is there to guide you, sharing stories behind each piece that makes the experience even richer. Leaving with a few treasures and a deeper respect for India’s craftsmanship, I felt as though I’d just returned from a journey through the country itself. If you’re ever in Delhi and want more than just a souvenir, a visit to Central Cottage Industries Emporium is like taking a piece of India’s soul back home. Highly recommended for those who love authentic craftsmanship and a good story woven into every thread and carving!
