Central Market

I was browsing the produce section this evening for about 6-10 minutes, when a very nice young lady Mariana offered to let me sample a few of the fruits and citrus. I had no idea Central Market offered this in the produce section and it was such a pleasant experience! Mariana was very knowledgeable and accommodating to all of my questions. I got to try the Ponderosa Lemon; Lavender Gem; and Mandarinquat. Mariana has been with Central for over 2 years and it really showed :) This is one of the best experiences I’ve had as a customer at Central Market and I have Mariana to thank! I felt looked after and like a part of the Central Market Community. Thank you so much for the hospitality; positivity and kindness! I’ll definitely be back with more questions: :)!

This is my favorite grocery store. Just a much better version of HEB with such beautiful and interesting fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and mushroom. The only downside is that most of the customers are rude and inconsiderate jerks.

I had a curbside order today. At pick up they were running a little behind and an employee came out to give us the update and both sparkling/bottled water. SO kind! I felt very cared for. Thank you Central Market. I will most definitely be back.

This was our first time at the central market. Talking about an amazing amount of cool foods and so many specialty items. We were overwhelmed, but it was the most amazing way. Well worth the trip . Great selection of fruits, vegetables, as well as coffee pastries, fresh tortillas, and fresh bread. We'll definitely be going back.

The recent renovations make it tight and really hard to navigate with a stroller. There was a gentleman that kept pushing up behind me while I was looking at a section trying to get me to move out of the area I was still looking at while I had the stroller with my 1 year old. My husband also ordered something and they had his name down as a completely different Hispanic name. Removal of the prepared warm food section makes it feel like any other grocery store, the special quality is no longer there. All in all I don’t think I’ll be going back due to these changes.

My favorite spot for a quick lunch was Central Market. The additional charge for adding avocado to my turkey sandwich was well worth it. Until recently. I had a pathetic smudge of what they claimed was avocado. It looked old and the quantity felt like a mockery. I’m adding photos to support my low review. It has happened TWICE. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the two visits ago, but this last visit was just as bad as the last.

I love Central Market because everything is an adventure here. They have so many new and exotic foods to explore.

Love the store and it’s nice to see it’s finally getting a facelift. However, the bathrooms seemed to have been forgotten about but I will assume these will also be overhauled. It’s absolutely filthy; it looks like a truck stop bathroom in here.

Christmas spot to visit during the holidays. They usually have an excellent selection of food, side, dishes, and desserts. What makes it stand out from the other HEB stores is the prepared foods and a couple of food booths that you can find in the store. I usually visit H-E-B Central marketplace, to purchase some of my Christmas sides and entrées. They also have the delicious pies at H-E-B sells but with some twists. For example, one of their fruit pies is in four different fruit selections. Service, of course, is up to Heb standards so spectacular and this one has the Christmas feel for me. The prices are a bit higher than another HEB, but the selection is different, as well. This makes it ideal for trying to find items that might not be sold in other HEBs.

Central Market probably has the most beautiful fruit and vegetable and mushroom displays. I love to peruse the options that you don't find in the typical HEB locations. The bakery and cheese sections are equally impressive. I mean honestly, so is the meat section and the fish section and the bulk section and the coffee and the floral.... You get the point. You can certainly get lost in browsing and thought in these stores. I like to pop in to the bakery for the fruit tart. It's so beautiful that I like to pick one up to take as a hostess gift whenever I'm invited to a gathering nearby. It impresses and is delicious. If you don't want to pick up food as a gift, check out the deliciously scented candles. You can't walk away empty handed. Also, don't snooze on the gelato station. They offer yummy flavors.

False advertising! We picked up catered Thanksgiving food and it was so bad we had to go out again the next day to find real Ham and more food! Really? Would you put this out for a Thanksgiving gathering? Small pieces of ham looked like leftovers! Thank God we checked before we brought it over to the dinner home. Everything was as such small portions. What they gave would only serve 2 ppl at best, AND you can't even make sandwiches out of the ham! They are the small end pieces shaped like a diamond. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes would have been good but barely enough. Look at the photo they show, compare it to what we got... feel ripped off. We are not big eaters either, we are both in shape, same with our family that was awaiting the meal. No way we are returning for our Christmas catering and you shouldn't either!

Thought I would add to my review that they did away with the old microwave (I get, I guess due to the renovations.) The service is still excellent. All the employees are ready to make you feel comfortable and enjoy the time you spend in the store. I am including additional photos of the gelato that is always very good. You could accompany this gelato with a pastry or food from their food section. Well worth the trip to Central market.

I love the variety this store offers because you really can find anything you're looking for inside! We spontaneously grabbed a bottle of wine and ingredients to make a homemade carbonara at home and were happy to find a guanciale that didn't break the bank (it's rare to find it in other supermarkets so typically costs more) -- the butcher was super nice and actually told us next time that we could order from the counter exactly the amount we wanted in case it was too much. I loved that they had an assortment of cheeses with varying sizes/brands to pick from too! We grabbed a smoked salmon dip from a city we visited last summer too which was a nice surprise -- and delicious lol

Coming off of the performance H-E-B's rotisserie chicken put on, my expectations for Central Markets bird were through the ROOF. However, this is yet another case of expectations being the root of all heartache. It was oddly reminiscent of how J.Cole's "KOD" album made me feel. Yeah, it was good, but coming off of '2014 Forest Hills Drive' and 'For Your Eyes Only' back to back, I was let down. It didn't give me that same feeling. The Central Market chicken ran $9.99 and landed at 7.7/10, which currently ranks it 42nd out of 76 grocery store birds I've tried thus far. The road to 100. It's been five years since my last review for Central Market and I still feel like I have a love and hate relationship with this grocery store. First of all, let me warn you that they are currently going through a huge renovation which is a big pain in the butt. With the current renovation, a huge part of their parking lot is not available to customers, which always creates a big traffic jam. Because of this I highly recommend for you to visit early in the morning when they are not as busy. On a more positive note, their meat selection is still one of the best in the city. Every time I need a good brisket or steak to cook at home, I know I have to buy it at Central Market. Their bakery section is also amazing and I highly recommend their cakes and cupcakes. Every time I get something from their bakery people asked me where I bought it. Last but not least, if you are hosting thanksgiving or just having people over and you don't have the time to cook, I highly recommend checking out their "food court" section. They have a huge selection of main dishes as well as side dishes. During big holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas they will have seasonal items that are perfect for gatherings.

All I wanted was some oatmeal no raisins I said no raisins probably three or four times this lady looked at me in the eye smiled at me was very tired and did it anyway. I don't think she liked it whenever I showed up 15 minutes after they opened but I just wanted some breakfast and she ruined it nice lady though.

Its a niche type of grocery store .. clean food, healthy options, unique finds, tasty pre-mades. I love to shop the fresh produce with lots of options including fresh, cold pressed juices. And then there is The Cheese Shop-- awesome with regional choices, hard to find cheeses. Something for everyone. Today was shopping for my Wimbledon staples .. bloated cream, strawberries, scones and blends for the Pimm's Cup.

I really love this place. Service is always so nice and informative! The food is great & there's so many options for everything you could think of. I like how it's called central market because it is a grocery store but feels more like an indoor market so it feels like I'm doing more than shopping for my groceries at Costco or something. The vibe seems less stressful and more wanderlust.

I cannot express enough gratitude for one of Central Market's incredible employees in the Floral Department -- Steven. During a difficult and emotional time, his kindness, patience, and genuine care made all the difference. Steven went above and beyond to ensure that a beautiful floral spray was sent to my family and loved ones, and his compassion shone through every step of the process. 2nd time coming to one of these (the other in Ft Worth). Love the options and prices much more normal, unlike a Whole Foods type. I wish they had these in the Southeast. I guess everything really is bigger and better in Texas. This would have gotten a 5-star if it felt cleaner and shopping carts were easier to get to. This will be better once construction is over.

This is my gourmet lunch spot. The sushi is awesome. I really enjoy the olive and salad bar selections to add variety to a healthy lunch. The array of drink options makes the meal even more unique. I like sitting in the dining area and taking in the sights and smells of the store. It's pretty much self serve but staff is always available to answer questions or make recommendations.

My family really enjoys going Central Market. My kids love that they can get free balloons and coloring pages, and they always make sure to bring quarters so they can buy fruit from the little fruit stand (if you don't have cash, you can pay at the register)! I love the bulk spices. You can get so many great options at a fraction of the cost of your standard spice jars. Sometimes I will swing by just to stock up on that. Aside from the grocery offerings, you can get several ready to go foods from the sushi bar, hot food section, gelato and coffees, bakery, stir fry and more. If you are looking for something different or just to stock up on essentials, give them a go.

We love Central Market. The specialty vegetables, the cheese selection, the loose spices selection and the Deli are awesome for take out or eat. We take all of our out of town guests there to show it off. We usually finish the visit with a stop at the Gelato bar, but our last visit left us disappointed. Mind you, we have visited this store for more than 10 years and the small Gelato portion was always ample. But our last visit the clerk barely filled the cup and she said they had to weigh them all now. We will still come for the vegetables, deli, spices and cheese, but I think we will be skipping the Gelato bar. My attached photo shows the Gelato scoop 6 months ago. Last Friday was half that.

Cooks paradise. Amazing range of ingredients and spices in abundance. Meticulously maintained and spotless. The prepared food section beats restaurants I've been in.

I love going to Central market it has such amazing things there , fresh produce , fresh beef, vegetables and of course, the deli you can get premade meals already cooked. They have a huge wine selection and huge array of homemade bread and pastries. I highly recommend going to Central market if you've never been there you need to stop by ....

Central Market used to be a favorite haunt of ours. We used to drive to Austin to visit the original before they came to San Antonio. Well, they have been in SA for 30 years and we decided to pay for the 30th Anniversary Foodie Stroll. What a mistake. $10 per person for the event. And we waited in line to get our VIP wristbands. In return we would each get a $10 coupon. But what they failed to tell everyone was it's was $10 off $50 purchase and only good that day. If you are on their email list, you routinely get this coupon. Total fail! I would gave gladly used the coupon at a later date, but the store was so crowded I just wanted to leave. The first fail was the parking lot. So you have an event that will draw thousands and a third of your parking lot is closed. I wasn't going to give an parked a couple blocks away. We queued up outside in a long line to get our VIP wristbands. I was excited. Until we got inside. They had sample stations, but they were for everyone. Lots of long lines for samples. We finally got into a line for the VIP experience that was in the area that has tables close to to the sushi station. After a long wait we made it to the VIP area. They give you a bag and a $10 off $50 coupon only good that day. It was more samples and one beverage table. There was a band..not playing. And it was crowded. The samples were decent, but not excellent. We left the VIP area and had some more samples with the rest of San Antonio. We had a 3PM reservation, yet may of the stations were out of the expected food. The lady serving Caymus seemed to be overwhelmed and out of her element. I just walked away as her vibe was just too negative. The store was so crowded that we left without using either of our $10 off $50 coupons. Central Market you can do better. I feel like I wasted $20 for an overcrowded event where I did not feel like a VIP.

The chef, Jorge, who makes the burgers is absolutely amazing. I will only go when he is there. He has my families order memorized. I literally can walk in, look at him, and he gives me a thumbs up knowing exactly what I want. Very rarely do I get this kind or service anywhere!

I got used to buying my organic groceries at other stores since this one has basically stopped caring. The employees and shoppers are sick of the renovation and it's a bad experience now, so I started going to other stores. It's a better experience and I spend less money. Just leave that store like it is, it's fine that way now.

I came for some bread & left with a lot more than just...bread. *wink If I had to describe Central Market, I could do it in 3 words. This is the UPSCALE TRADER JOES. Maybe even Whole Foods on some level. Don't expect this to meet your expectations for your local HEB. It won't. That said, it's a classier, far more expensive supermarket...but the variety is OH MY GOD. Like other reviewers have stated, if you are looking for that ONE ingredient that seems impossible to find, you have a darn good chance at finding it here. Walking through the aisles, I could tell that Central Market carries QUALITY ingredients. There was many different "areas" depending on what you are looking for which made it easier to get what you need, but it was still nice to roam. We mainly came for their SOURDOUGH bread but unfortunately we didn't get the plain one. I LOVE that I finally found a place that carries ELLENOS yogurt (Marionberry is the best flavor, imo)...and I'll be back even if it's just for this particular item. All in all, I could spend a good two hours going from place to place in this market.

We love coming here! They have fantastic to-go items! The sushi exceeds our expectation and we enjoy going to the café!

Shame on You!!! I purchased a turkey & havarti sandwich...$8.59 1 slice of turkey not even large enough to cover the 2 inch thick bread, a slice of havarti & a hardly there smear of something or other! I wish I would have had time to disassemble & include the inside completely... Unfortunately, in a hurry ran in grabbed it & WAS SORELY DISAPPOINTED as I drove off & started consuming.Central Market/H.E.B. is a Billion dollar business, I can see why. Do not care that it is an upscale H.E.B. Even with inflation this NOT ACCEPTABLE! NEVER AGAIN! What a TOTAL RIP-OFF!!! PATHETIC, RIP OFF!!! AMEN FOR *******TRADER JOE'S!!!!****

Has a good variety of specialty products at reasonable prices. Offers local delivery and is open daily. Clean and good lighting just wish they were open later.

The sandwiches are the best in town and it is the best supermarket in Texas no doubt about that.

Central Market is a great grocery store at its other locations but this one seems dated and sparse by comparison. While the service and quality foods are still outstanding this original location in the "Central Market" concept needs expansion. I recently attended a cooking class and highly recommend the experience. It was lots of fun, informative, and delicious!

I couldn't believe it, but I actually got in and out of a grocery store fast. Thanks to the prepared food section of Central Market grocery store, I was able to grab a few prepared items needed, and of course make a quick trip to their amazing salad bar and be on my way. Thank you Central Market for creating such customer friendly, grab and go food options.

The market is otherwise excellent but I can't recommend their Italian Cream cake, it's not like anything you will get at a good Italian restaurant and even Walmart of all places has a far superior Italian cream. The cake looks gorgeous but the problem is the cream cheese frosting, which would be great on a carrot cake but not on an Italian Cream Cake, which normally has a rich buttercream frosting. It was a shame because the cake without the distracting frosting was very good.

This place has gone way downhill during the construction of whatever the hell they're constructing. It's not just the disruption of what to find where, but it's the actual quality. Particularly of the bakery. Above all, of their blueberry muffins. They used to be fantastic, the best I've ever had anywhere, and full of berries. Now they're just like all the other crappy cake-like skimpily berried muffins you can get anywhere. I don't know if it's that their bakery isn't functioning and the ones they're trucking in from elsewhere are lower standard but jeez. These muffins used to be the main reason I'd ever go to this overpriced bourgie joint and now there's no reason left anymore.

So much for fresh food , I'd go to subway before getting a sandwich from here again.. damn grocery store and you all don't have fresh avocado to serve?! Wild

What an amazing grocery store!! Definitely a different from your typical H‑E‑B but still great! The produce was just so beautiful and great selection. I even shopped in the cafe and I had order a smoothie it was SO good. Just a nice ambience.

Took the croissant class with Chef Richard. He's a great instructor. Made these amazing butter croissants, chocolate and almond croissant, ham and cheese croissant, and apple chausson. For the snack, the served mushroom and spinach quiche with a composed salad of tomato, greens, and grapes.

This place has a lot of products from around the worlds. During the weekend they have wine tasting and food tasting. The employees are always willing to help, good customer services. They have fruit and vegetables from around the world.

I got three gelato flavors: coffee, tiramisu, and mango. They change these flavors so often! They definitely give you a lot of ice cream per scoop. My favorite was the coffee. There was a strong, robust flavor. Definitely ask for samples before you commit to flavors! This is high quality gelato for a reasonable price! I like sitting in the cafe area, it has nice wooden tables that feel very home-y.

Have been coming here for years, but I think I'm finally done. Aside from being an eyesore, the endless construction makes even getting into the store a major hassle. It used to feel like a classy, market-style shopping experience, but now it's cramped and disorganized like a cheap grocery store. It used to feel open and welcoming but now it's claustrophobic and uncomfortable. I might give it another shot once the construction is done (probably sometime in the mid 2030s, at the rate they seem to be going), or if I need a unique item that's hard to find elsewhere, but for regular shopping, I think this is my last trip.

The quality of food is good at Central market. And they have other things that H-E-B markets do not have.

Customer Service is A1, variety of options, fresh produce, the fresh juice options are endless. Just make sure you get there early enough because they sell out. The store is clean and everything is in it's place.

While most things at central market are usually phenomenal, I was beyond disappointed with the sushi I purchased. 17 dollars for 90% rice with the tiniest sliver of filling inside. Due to the little plastic green grass most sushi rolls have inside the package, I was unable to see the filling until I got home. Super disappointing when I could have gotten the same amount for around 12 dollars at a regular HEB and it would have been great.

Central Market will always be one of my absolute favorite places to walk around and shop at! It is always clean and organized. The staff is always helpful and happy to be there - if they're having a bad day they sure don't let anyone know! I love the selection of food, drinks, and just general "healthy stuff" they carry. I spend a lot of time in the coffee/tea aisles and in the bakery. I highly recommend swinging by after 7 pm and early in the morning if you want to avoid traffic and the influx of the nearby college students at UIW. Enjoy!

Central Market reminds me of Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. They have great prices and many selections, such as fresh baked goods, meats, and cheeses. The service is great. Tons of parking.

The had live music during my holiday shopping trip. This is by far my favorite H‑E‑B shopping experience. Staff is always very friendly and helpful.

Attended our first Season's Eatings Sampling Stroll today which featured Fall Flavors such as baked ham with sweet potatoes which is part of their prepared Thanksgiving Meal offering; wine pairings with savory items & appetizers, catering samples such as Pimiento cheese finger sandwiches with Mortadella & a Mozzarella ball, Cheese w/dill flecks on a cracker paired with a prawn & Cornichon; Pinot Noir sample with a "BLUMENKÄSE" cheese topped crisp that had dried cranberries & nuts & topped with a pear slice(Yum!!); Bumbleberry Pie sample topped with fresh whipped cream; "EWE'S BLUE" cheese topped w/honey on a cracker paired w/PLAIMONT GÉOGLYPHE Red Blend; Caymus Cab & a Caymus Red Blend & a Tassajara Cab; Gruyere cheese by Le Superbe topped with Apricot jam on an interesting Salt & Pepper Pull Apart Bread!! Such a foodie haven day!! We met other foodies & talked about the Cabs, what each other's favorite varietals are & the Fredricksburg, TX wine area. We suggested Mead wineries to check out in Seguin & Hye, TX. We ended up buying some Cheddar Bacon Mini Scones, Yellowfin Tuna & some groceries. They gave $10 off $20 coupons with a RSVP to the event. The place was packed & there were lines in the sample areas but they moved pretty steadily. This is our 3rd time shopping here in the last 2 weeks which is a record, LOL!!

Need a quick, healthy lunch? Maybe want to take home dinner?? I absolutely love the fresh food offerings at the Gucci- B otherwise known as the Central Market on Broadway. I drop in here for lunch on the occasion when I want something quick, healthy and yummy.

If you want premium groceries this is the place to go to. Toms of organic products plus the bakery is the best selection

This place is amazing! Not only do they have everything that you need...they also have everything you thought you didn't need. Put all of the things in the cart! I've always had a hard time finding mizithra cheese and this place consistently carries it. The bakery department is incredible! So much to choose from and great customer service! All of the breads I've tried have been excellent. Our go to pastry here is the chocolate almond croissant. They're addicting- you've been warned! On your way out, make sure to grab a coffee! Our favorite is the Mexican mocha but you really can't go wrong with any of them. There's also gelato!! Outside is a great sitting area to enjoy your finds or to sit with your coffee and just be present. This is definitely my all time favorite store ever!

As much as I love the idea of this store, I really do not enjoy going here. It's only ever if I need something decadent that I'm craving. From the clientele to some of the employees here...it has an air about it that strangles my happiness. It's a snotty store. But, look where it is, & remember why it's called the Gucci-B! To me, it is an over priced HEB, filled with meh people. But, it has a very nice cheese & bakery section. These are the two reasons for darkening the doorway. This time I went in for my own birthday cupcake. I stood at the bakery counter for a good 10 minutes. The young lady was helping another lady. The man was wiping something off a table - ignoring me. After standing there for 10 minutes, I walked away hoping to find something else. I walked off maybe three feet away when a young woman in work out clothes, ie leggings & a crop top, walked up & the man about broke his neck to assist her. She told him she was just looking. So, he stood in front of her for a bit, then decided to move some cakes around in the display case in front of her. When she asked, oh what is that cake you have there? He smiled & said oh this is a white cake. She said "Humm...okay..no" and walked off. I had walked back over, after having my foot run over by this human in a scooter & her friend bumping me with her scooter. I stood back at the counter & again waited to be helped. The young woman had moved onto one of the scooter demons, while the man, literally looked around hoping someone else walked up...I guess??? The other scooter demon came rushing up behind me, again. The man begrudgingly asked me what I'd like. I simply stated, it was my birthday & I wanted a cupcake . I told him which one & he happily (not) dropped it into a plastic container & said "here you go" & turned & walked away. I swear, if it wasn't for the fact that I can run in & grab an Italian wedding cupcake or a fruit tart anytime I want one, I wouldn't ever come back to this HEB. It is the only HEB that has arrogant employees. It's not like they work for tips...maybe they should! Funny thing is, I left a bakery to go here to get the cupcake. Won't do that again.

Great grocery store. Amazing selection of everything you want. Friendly checkout and roaming helpers. Clean, fresh, lots of options. Specialty in organic and sustainable products.
