Central Market of Tarragona

A Must‑Visit Spot in Tarragona’s Heart – Central Market I spent around 20 minutes exploring the Central Market in Tarragona and would definitely recommend a quick visit! This beautiful Modernist building (from 1915, renovated in 2017) stands proudly just off Rambla Nova—its three spacious naves, iron columns, ceramic roof and arched facades make it architecturally striking and inviting. Inside, the market buzzes with life: around 40 stalls offer fresh local seafood, fish, meats, bakery products, sweets, wines and more—many from generational vendors representing true Catalan flavour. All around the building you’ll find plenty of bars and cafés, perfect for a random coffee and something sweet after strolling through stalls. There’s even a carillon clock show daily at 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm (and 8:00 pm in summer).

This place is a real market unlike Barcelona and Madrid this is an authentic Mercat! The fresh meats and fish are amazing. The Placa de Corsini is not to be missed when in Tarragona.

Tanagona market was a hive of activity, plenty to see and buy, locals buy fresh foods from here 😋, enjoyed my walk round.

Love the market. The seafood is fresh. We got some prawns and clams at reasonable price. The locals shop their food here too. So much better than the market in Barcelona which is totally ripped off.

Great market to sample local produce. Abundance of fresh seafood, meat, cheese etc. I wish I lived here. There is a cafe in the middle where you can buy prepared food and sit at the table nearby to eat. We did, and it was good! Interesting place to sit down and watch how locals go about their lives.

Great little market. If we lived in Tarragona we would be there all the time. It's much smaller than the ones we have in Valencia, but on top of the stalls selling top quality fruit, veg, meat, seafood etc it has a number of bars where you can have a drink and a snack. Quiet when we went at about 14:00 and not full of tourists

Great market to buy fresh fish, meat, cheese, and other delicacies. There are some places where you can get small fried foods like empanadas. You can also get prepared foods and drinks at a few of the bars offering service. Sadly, we came during a time where they didn't have paella like we had hoped, but there was more than enough other options. There was also a market outside selling textiles, clothes, etc.

We were impressed by the vast selection of fresh produce on offer here. Prices looked good and we enjoyed having a stroll about. Clearly popular with tourists and locals alike.
