I am deeply disappointed with my recent 4-night stay at the Central Park Hotel Songdo. What should have been a comfortable trip was marred by unhelpful staff, questionable policies, and subpar facilities, making it utterly unworthy of its 5-star rating.
Our troubles began at 6:30 AM after a red-eye flight. We fully understood that check-in was at 3:00 PM and only requested to leave our luggage and sit in the lobby. However, the receptionist was super unhelpful, informing us there was "no place to sit" as the lobby lounge was under renovation. This was confusing, as we saw other guests seated in the area. We were then presented with a rigid and expensive early check-in policy: a full extra night's charge before 9:00 AM, or 11,000 KRW per hour after. There was no offer of assistance or empathy.
Furthermore, upon arrival, we discovered there is no bellboy or concierge to assist with luggage. We had to navigate and push the heavy luggage trolley ourselves, which was an unexpected and inconvenient start.
The poor service continued during our proper check-in in the evening. A different male receptionist was condescending and asked a series of unnecessary, lengthy questions while we were exhausted and desperate to rest.
The most baffling issue arose when we inquired about adding an extra night to our stay. We had paid 626,000 KRW for 3 nights (for 2 rooms). The receptionist initially quoted us an impossible 1,200,000 KRW for a 4th night. When I challenged this, he apologized but still charged 956,000 KRW for the 4-night total, which still seems incorrect and arbitrary. At that point, we were too tired to argue further.
The hotel itself does not live up to its reputation. The facilities are dated and worn. Most shockingly, we found holes in the bedsheets, which is unacceptable at any hotel, let alone one claiming a 5-star status.
As a final point for pet owners: be warned. While "pet-friendly," the policy is impractical. Dogs are not allowed to walk through the lobby and must be carried. They are restricted to the room only. The provided dog bowls and bed were not properly cleaned.
In summary, avoid this hotel. The combination of unhelpful staff, a complete lack of basic services like a bellboy, inconsistent and exorbitant pricing, and poorly maintained rooms makes it a terrible value for money. We will not be returning.
