Google
Small Airport but clean and comfortable. Easy to board and pickup and drop off is a breeze. Just one food and drink vendor, only inside the gate. Was open before my 6:25 am flight.

Donald Steffes

Google
Newly remodeled airport that has easy parking and the gates are close. The Rooster Cafe has great sandwiches and coffee

Jennifer Sackmann

Google
Convenient airport close to home! Very friendly and efficient staff overall, and specifically, the maintenance crew, who went above and beyond for us on our recent trip, when we lost a valuable item in the terminal. We are grateful for their efforts on our behalf. There is no substitute for a friendly, small town airport, who show they really care about their customers.

Careage Transportation

Google
Very easy boarding just not many food or entertainment options and flights are usually delayed but the tsa people are patient and kind while still ensuring thorough checks and safety

Nice airport. You are in and through security very quickly. Nice employees and TSA. If you have a medical device and can't go through their scanner they make small talk while they feel you up.

Josh

Google
Pros: easy to get to and get through. Very nice on the inside and clean. Cons: no one at the ticket counter when I arrived at 11:00am and was told no one was going to be available until 1:00pm. I wish this was made more public as I would have made arrangements to fly out of another airport. Drink vending machine was working, snack vending machine not working and the restaurant is closed.

Google
It’s small and regional airport, TSA officers was the kindest I ever saw in my life, thanks to the all of them they were really nice and polite

Google
I love the convenience of CWA and all the TSA and gate agents are wonderful! Please bring back the Delta flight to DTW- losing that flight really limited our options!

Yelp
This is a small airport but very quite lovely. There aren't many options for flights and the timing is pretty set so no need to show up 2 hours early. Wi-Fi was really fast as was TSA. The rental car pickup and drop off is directly across the street from departures and arrivals. At least on American Airlines, the overhead bin on the plane is too small for rolling luggage so be prepared for gate check. Thanks CWA!

Yelp
Small, connecting airport in Wausau, Wisconsin. About four gates, and everyone seemed super friendly! Good sized bar in the departure lounge where it seemed like everyone was slamming brews! Every stool was taken! The bartender also seemed to be info central for the departure area!

Yelp
Nice place. Very small still but they have a coffee and sandwich stand for travelers! I see this airport growing quickly in the future!

Yelp
Possibly the quickest airport I've ever passed through. Hopefully you don't have a long layover here since it's a relatively small airport (only 5 gates) but if you do, there's a centrally located "shop/snack stand" between all gates to grab a quick snack, drink or last-minute Wisconsin souvenirs. If you have food in you bags (who can't leave Wisconsin without cheese?), they will likely request you to remove it from your baggage during security and put it in a separate tray to avoid a manual luggage check. The rental car desks are in a separate building but it's literally steps away from the baggage claim exit. Pick up and drop off took no more than 5 minutes. Walking to my car took about a minute. Gotta love stress free airports.

Yelp
Worst airport I have ever been to. First off better hope you're flight doesn't get delayed (which apparently happens far too often) because if you want a rental car to drive to Minneapolis, which is where you're gonna from here, it don't open til 11....am. Delta literally, literally has one plane here. Oh yeah if you go outside the gate to get your next flight booked because the original one you're on you ain't gonna make be sure to check with TSA because everyone of them takes a break at the exact same time and they shut the security checkpoint down completely. Just saying avoid this airport at all cost. Just get a rental and drive to and fro Minneapolis airport. I cannot emphasize this enough. Worst airport ever.

Yelp
Fly with American Airlines TSA pre-check his trade and plumbing play with American Airlines.

Yelp
For such a teeny airport it was really nice. The food option was pretty good and the airport is beautiful and clean

Yelp
This is one of those regional airports with a small amount of gates, very basic food and drink and not much else. What it has going for it, in spades, is its location. Plenty of larger businesses nearby, and no large airport within a couple of hours. So, it is very convenient if you're going to be traveling to/from the area. Rental car pick up/return is simple. Security is pretty easy. Good signage to and in the airport. I'd return!

Jason W.

Yelp
I'm Not into yelping or reviewing airports but my wife and I just had a fantastic experience here and just wanted to quickly say how wonderful this airport is. Everyone is so very genuinely kind and nice. Super check in. Super fast security screening.... the little food bar had a wonderfully tasty menu and food. EVERYONE WAS SO NICE! Modern, Immaculately clean. Stellar airport!

Yelp
Think a little airport like CWA is a breeze for travelers compared to a large one? Think again. Security line in the afternoon was only 20 people deep but felt like 100. PreCheck travelers were supposedly permitted to keep laptops in bags per the laminated form. But then had to remove them anyway and wait on a hand search. At the gate I noticed my name had disappeared from the upgrade list. Two locals were upgraded instead. Also wanted to keep a plane side tag on my bag. Nope. Counter agent gleefully tore it off and replaced it with the exact same thing. So wasteful. Next time will suck it up and drive to Minneapolis.

Yelp
Call me a frequent flyer though this airport for over 35 years. I have seen the changes to this airport and it has improved and grown incredibly. As a small regional airport, it is very modern and always very clean. I have found that no matter which airline I fly out of, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Going through security is usually quick and without long lines. There are limited times to go through so don't arrive too early for your flight! It is probably one of the few airports that routinely asks if you are carrying any blocks of cheese or meats in your carry-on. :-) The amenities inside the security area are limited. I remember the larger gift shop outside of the security area many years ago. There is a nice coffee stand inside the gate area and a restaurant now open outside. Parking is ample and the price is good. Normally, my ride can time it right and not have to pay for parking when picking me up. Planes flying out here are small so do watch your carry ons and be ready to plane-side check your rollerbags. Also...remember this is located in Central Wisconsin. Staff are not responsible for the weather...flight delays and cancellations. They do the best they can. (PS - I'll be checking in here later this month!)

Yelp
A great airport! So convenient and clean and the people are so friendly. Everything is easy access and never any long lines. Always a good experience!

Yelp
This is an excellent airport and one of the most modern and cleanest I've experienced. We fly into this airport and rent a car to go to Minocqua (67 miles N). I find that the TSA is very friendly and other associates such as the gift shop and bar are friendly as well. It's very easy to navigate and there are only five gates. Just a really nice overall experience, friendly, and clean atmosphere

Yelp
Small and weird airport, but it is your only choice if this is your destination unless you want to drive 2+ hours. The security was the most ridiculous I have ever experienced. They searched almost every bag by hand and even swept through the post security area of the terminal to recheck IDs and boarding passes which they were down right rude about. The other really strange thing was the exit from the security area to the outside was basically an airlock that looked like something designed by NASA.

Yelp
Thanks to work, I can now knock CWA off my I didn't know this airport existed and I visited bucket list. This was honestly the only airport that was by where I need to be that didn't require a 2 hour drive. That being said, this airport has an extremely limited number of flights. As a result of this, it is serviced by regional jets and prone to delays as a result. If you've never been to an airport and are intimidated, this is the place for you. There are only 5 gates, which only 3 seem to be in use. But don't let the size of this airport fool you, you to can get the full TSA experience. There is no PreCheck, but if you have it, you can walk through with your shoes and jacket on, but be prepared to dump you laptop and everything else out for security. Prior to the gate they so have a little shop and is side the gate they do have a coffee stand that sells some sandwiches, snacks, and beer and wine. If you are gluten free, try to find food outside the airport, which in itself can be challenging. I wouldn't recommend arriving early. The sitting is limited and not that comfortable. If you need to do some work, there are a few desks with some power strips. Other than that, I'm not even sure if they had WIFI. **If you're a fan of cheese curds, they do sell some there.

Yelp
Updated review: This is more of a review of the AA counter checkin process, which was unprofessional and very slow. The AA staff were very busy with a single customer who took over 15 mins to check in so they asked some baggage handling yokel to help passengers check in with the touchscreen checkin kiosk. "Can this handle international flights?" I asked. He said yes but... it couldn't. That locked up the screen which made the kiosk unusable. Then the attendant didn't know how to look for a visa in my passport. Overall, a very time-consuming and unprofessional experience. Come on, people.

Yelp
Super helpful when our luggage got put on the next flight while we were in Chicago. They delivered it the next morning and had great communication. Super hometown feel. So happy about flying in there again.

Yelp
Eh. It's a small airport. I was the ONLY one going through security and it was painfully slow. I even got felt up by a woman, yay... she wanted to make sure I didn't have anything in my sweatshirt pocket... I guess she didn't believe me when I said no. I've gotten through O'hare security quicker, but we had an hour and a half to kill so if nothing else it killed some time. The employees are ridiculously chatty with each other and loudly discussing personal issues... which I have to say, made me feel a little unsafe seeing as the guy who was screening luggage was bitching about how often his mother calls him to make sure he followed up on his insurance... she called four times already this week if you're wondering, he still hasn't followed up . It serves it's purpose, it's clean and it goes without saying, but it's easy to navigate. Renting a car and returning it is easier here than anywhere else. There is nothing but vending machines in the gates and a gift shop that never seems to be open when I'm there. There is a nice little gift shop before security, wish it offered more cheese, etc. All in all it's an A-OK airport and we're glad to be able to have the option to fly there in order to get back home to Minocqua and Hurley.

Yelp
A small potatoes airport with 5 gates, a cafe, and a gift shop. That's about it. It's the most boring airport that I've ever been to. You'll have to pay for WIFI. They have a flight going out to Chicago each day. The problem I have about this place is that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing and vice versa. I've been given the run around so much. The people at the gate tell me to go to the kiosk to get my ticket, the people in the ticketing told me to go back to the gate area to get my ticket. So confusing, I just had one of them walk with me to the ticketing area to get it sorted. Parking is free for the first 45 minutes otherwise it's a dollar after that. Long term parking is $7 a day. If you live in the area, the only positive thing about this airport is that when you buy a ticket, a plane will take you to a magical destination that is not Central Wisconsin. I find that most appealing.

Yelp
I was stuck here for just a couple hours. Sure it's a small, quaint little airport, but for the love of God, please have a slightly bigger place for me to purchase a variety of libations! Well, OK, it was 5AM. Nonetheless, I maintain that the bar should not be the size of a small office. Furthermore, the AA employees were literally sleeping on the baggage belt at the check-in station. Granted it was 5AM. Moreover, the TSA line was 30 deep and they selected me for special screening in which they did find contraband. It seems my toothpaste was 4.7 fl. oz and not the 3 fl. oz. However, the City of Chicago as well as the City of Bismarck, North Dakota all sided with me in the 1.7 ounces of toothpaste could make or break the deal!! Either way, the TSA woman did not find me humorous and proceeded to laugh as she threw out my toothpaste. However, just to show her up, I decided to make a stand and MAIL the toothpaste back to me. It cost $22 to do that, but I sure did make her look like a fool...wait!

Yelp
This is a great airport to fly out of. I can't wait for their renovations to be finished. They are currently renovating the terminals and the parts that are finished are bright and open. The parking lot is currently under reconstruction. Very friendly staff, they have volunteers that assist flyers from the minute they walk in the door to the minutes they board the flight. If they don't know an answer then they direct you to someone who does. Very excited to fly out of CWA in the future!

Yelp
If I could give negative stars for this company I would. They delayed are flight from 9:30 to 11:30. 10 mins before 11am they sent a text the flight was leaving at 11am which there for we missed our flight. The problem happened once we arrived to CWA when we spoke to a man by the name Daniel. He has to be the worst person I have ever encountered. He gave major attitude and was so rude. He was unwilling to help in any way. He proceeded to smack his hands down on the desk as if he was annoyed since we missed our flight because of the lack of communication. Just not that but 2 other people missed the flight because no one was out front to check them in. Remind you all we are traveling with a 11 month old baby. We decided to cancel with United drive in Minneapolis and fly with southwest. After spending over a $1000 to make the flight easy for our daughter turned into a nightmare. We will never fly to CWA Ever Again. DANIEL IS THE WORST!!!!!
google avatar

Courtney T.

Yelp
It's small-5 gates and in the middle of a field. One kiosk for drinks & snacks. Not the airport you'd want to get delayed in.
google avatar

Melissa J.

Yelp
This is the teeniest tiny tiny itty bitty teensy weensiest airport so far of my life. Four gates total. This place feels so retro, definitely has not been updated since it was built. Be careful with what you take with you. Their security is RIDICULOUS! I think they are so bored they purposely go through EVERYTHING! They were so thrown off by my hairbrush??? And thought my bare minerals makeup was a liquid....... oyyyyy. My suitcase was scanned 3x... they opened it, took everything our, scanned, scanned, scanned. I had just flown through newark no problem with the exact same suitcase. No real food inside but luckily they sell plenty of Wisconsin souvenirs. There is also a strange teleportation device when you leave. You step in, the doors close behind you, then you wait and they open. I think this is so they don't have to staff a person to make sure no one re-enters but it is incredibly inefficient and everyone was very confused. I hope never to return!

Yelp
CWA is and older airport typical of remote satellite connectors. The facility is clean and tidy. Fairly up to date as far as digital display boards, lounge seats etc. There are 5 gates that are often packed with 5-8 people and they are looking to expand based on demand. There is now a "gift" shop selling wares of bagged snacks, soda, and American pride clothing. Team America! TSA at this facility takes themselves serious and they practice all of the guidelines, so be ready for back scatter and a pat-down plus rigorous baggage screening.OH! and don't pet WOOF the roaming TSA dog they get peeved. Overall this is a good airport for its type and level of remoteness; I have been in far worse!
google avatar

Janette C.

Yelp
Small airport. 5 gates. Had to wait on the tarmac because the people that guide the plan in were not at the gate yet. :) Easy to navigate obviously though and extremely convenient for me since I am working in Wausau this week. Would be ideal for anyone traveling to Granite Mountain for fall color or skiing.

Yelp
Most of the people at CWA are nice and extremely helpful (as most Wisconsinites are). The best thing about CWA, is that you don't need to get there more than an hour before your flight takes off. No matter how long the security line is, and no matter how annoying the TSA security staff are, you will make your flight! Speaking of security...The TSA people, are a bit.....[there is no way to politely describe them.] Since 2000 I have been primarily flying in to CWA and then flying out. I only ever have problems flying out. The TSA screeners are harsher and more rude at CWA than the TSA screeners in larger airports. If other airport TSA screeners operated as they do; we would never make any of our flights- ever. Recent example: I alerted the screening staff that I had a photo frame with a glass panel in my carry-on and asked if it was o.k. to bring (you know, since a person could break the glass and use it as a weapon.) They were fine with the photo frame/potential weapon being in my carry-on. What they were not o.k. with, were my 2 travel-sized bottles of hairspray & conditioner. My toiletries bag was not good enough. They made me take all my stuff out of line so I could put those 2 items in the plastic bag they gave me. If my method of packing was so wrong, its a wonder I made it to Wisconsin (though a much larger, international airport)! They also made a huge production out of scanning my net book, then taking my net book out of its bag (because, as they stated, they could feel the power cord in the bag) and then re-x-raying the bag, the net book and the power cord separately...really??
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
We're the only flight to land in the last hour. Been waiting on my bags for over 45 minutes. Still no sign of them. And to top that off I can't find any employees to ask what's going on. Zero.
google avatar

Frank M.

Yelp
For a small airport this place is great. Love traveling through here when i can.
google avatar

Charlie R.

Yelp
Horrible food, frequently bumped or delayed flights, and apathetic service. The two shops are highly overpriced. It's worth the drive to use Appleton, Green Bay, or Madison. Traveller beware!
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
If your expecting a large airport, what are you doing in central Wisconsin? This airport fits the community of 100,000 as appropriatly as O'hare fits Chicago. Theres 10-12 flights a day for a decent price, there's the basics for food/drinks, the car rental area has been expanded, and they are in the early process of renovating and enlarging the terminal. In 5-10 years after improvements are completed it will be really pretty nice (9 total gates I think). Security is a little tough, but its never taken me more than 15 minutes to get through like it does in all large airports (so you can show up 1 hour before your flight instead of 1.5-2 hours early). Its your best choice for flying into northern/central WI.
google avatar

Doug T.

Yelp
great small airport. minimal food options but makes it up by how quickly you can get through TSA.

Dennis N.

Yelp
Small airport gets you thru pretty quick however as a business traveler traveling on a crow rate card you can not by a cup of coffee without being forced to buy something else they won't take a card for the $3 coffee you have to spend $5

Mariah S.

Yelp
Possibly the worst airport I've ever been to, and I've been to quite a few. When my boyfriend came home on leave from the navy, they lost all three of his bags and then made us wait 45 minutes the next day to get them. Then when he went to leave to head to japan, we arrived at 1240 for a 105 flight, and they refused to allow him to board. Poor customer service, and complete disrespect to the military.

Jacob D.

Yelp
Flying out sucks in CWA. They didn't check the airplane and I ended up in airports all day.

Edgar B.

Yelp
Im a regular user of CWA and I have to rebutt all this negativity here. Yes it minuscule, yes the TSA people are a little rude, though no worse than anywhere else. However where else can you be dropped off at the curb and board your flight in 15-30 min flat.? The airport is clean and flights tend to be on time. It the perfect little commuter aiport for me. As to the lady that couldnt wait to leave Wausau for Chicago, are you nuts? My commute time here is 10 minutes during rush hour, our kids dont kill each other at school and people say hello to each other on the street. If you like to ski, kayak, fish, hunt or snowmobile its all here. Good medical care and low unemployment rate to go with some of the best public schools in the country. Our daughter cant wait to get out of Chicago and come back!

Pat U.

Yelp
wow just read all these reviews. Have'nt been through this airport for 20 years but really glad it is still there. Coming back in Feb and will be ready for the TSA I will be traveling light. Thanks for the heads up.
