"A Culture Center Next to Mosteiro dos Jerónimos Back in 1992, Portugal hosted the Presidency of the European Union, which was the reason for building this center that nowadays holds conferences and professional meetings. It is also a cultural center, with three rooms of different sizes equipped to host theater, dance, jazz, opera, film, and classical music concerts. Speaking of classical music, a festival called “Dias da Música” lasts a whole weekend and is the biggest annual event taking place here. But there is more. You'll find art at Berardo Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and stores in the building include a bookshop and a Portuguese-design shop. And for dining, you have a restaurant/café with a terrace outside overlooking the river."

I totally recommend a visit to the cultural centre and its exhibitions, I go often and never cease to be entertained. It's all great, the location along the riverside, the history of Belém neighbourhood, the amazing architecture and its high standards exhibitions, with excellent services, cafés, theatre, restaurants and paid parking underneath. A gem in Lisbon.

This was the perfect bathroom break between the monastery and the Belem Tower.
Very contemporary building.
Really not my kind of art, but this place is built like a tank or bunker.

The CCB Museum is an absolute must-visit in Lisbon for art lovers! The space is stunning, with modern architecture that beautifully complements the diverse range of exhibitions. Whether you’re into contemporary art, design, or cultural history, there’s always something inspiring to explore.
The curation is top-notch, with both local and international artists showcased in thoughtful and engaging displays. The museum’s location along the river also adds a serene atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to spend a few hours soaking in culture.
I highly recommend visiting the CCB Museum—it’s one of the best places to experience Lisbon’s vibrant art scene.

Beautiful modern art exhibition, the free museum was empty Sunday morning while the Jerónimos catedral was surrounded by an endless queue . Beautiful gardens facing it and a walk at Torre de Belém , among a crowd of tourists, with music and old boats going by and Cristo Rey at other side of Tagus.

If you like a warm modernist external envelope on a building coupled with deeply shaded open concourse areas, then you won't be disappointed by the Contemporary Art Museum.
The selection of the permanent collection on show is simply five star and spanning much of the cannon of Modernist visual art. You will enjoy Man Ray, Mondrian, Picasso, Lee Krasner( married Jackson Pollock), Yves Klein, Warhol and on and on you tumble into a beautiful museum experience.
Oh, and the coffee is wonderful and made moreso if enjoyed on the shaded terrace with a view to a leafy courtyard under a sheltering blue sky.

Belem was sooo pretty 🤩
No regrets at all to visit this neighborhood impulsively when in Lisbon.
So many local cuisine to try, so many cute coffee shops there are museums and cultural centers and touristy object in near by/ walking distance from one and another.
Plenty activities to do from just sitting down enjoy the amazing beach view, soaking to the sun ☀️, go to the museums and whatever makes you happy 😊

This modern building is a calm oasis away from the tourism bedlam surrounding it. There is an excellent coffee shop (a little hard to find but worth seeking out) and the art gallery is a great art space with many leading artists works on display. Picasso, Man-Ray, Mondrian, Miro, and Francis Bacon are just a few. It's well worth spending a couple of hours here.

A great modern building opened in the early 1990's it houses, amongst many interesting spaces, the Museu Coleccau Berardo. This is a wonderful art gallery: light, spacious and very airy it makes many other major art galleries seem cramped and a bit confined in comparison. A real jewel in the crown for the art scene in Lisboa, I would make this a "must do" if you are here on a mini break. If you can spare the time, and you enjoy modern art, I would recommend having lunch in one of the many decent cafes in the complex and making a whole day of your visit.
We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon here and we only managed to check out the amazing selection of works from the collection of Jose Berardo. Thoughtfully curated the work was displayed in a number of rooms on the ground floor of the gallery which made for an interesting journey through the collection. Some of this work is just stunning and you will find something of interest from most of the important artists of the past fifty years. I was struck by the depth and range of the collection and if you are interested in film/video installations you will find this a real treat.
If you are in need of a rest, or a breath of fresh air to keep you going, take a little time out in the lovely garden as you wander round. I find that I can only take so much visual and aural stimulus at one go, so the opportunity to chill out in this great, fragrant space was very welcome.
Our afternoon soon slipped through our fingers and much to our disappointment we had no time to check out the Mappa Mundi or other interesting looking exhibitions. We made a quick stop at the well-stocked shop to pick up a trifle or two before a short walk to the tram stop and the journey back into town for another tasty supper.
This place is already on the ever growing "must revisit" list.
