4 Under-the-Radar Madrid Neighborhoods for Tapas - AFAR
"Housed in former 18th-century military barracks, the Conde Duque cultural center draws filmmakers, writers, and musicians; I liked how the surrounding streets stay refreshingly free of crowds and are lined with independent bookstores, vintage boutiques, and hole-in-the-wall cafés, with unmarked jazz clubs and speakeasies coming alive late at night." - AFAR
Free entry. Nice collections and special exhibition. The lady on the first floor is very friendly. The library is also worth visiting if you know Spanish. Will appreciate more English description of the items.

There are three spaces to visit at the moment: contemporary art museum on 1st and 2nd floor, library exposition on ground floor and decorative art exposition in Puerta Sur. I liked them all. Free entrance.

It’s extremely austere and hard solid Castilian style on the exterior yet comprehensive high quality interesting content in its interior.
Great place to get lost and see what interesting proposals might be found.

It is a very thorough culture center, in the center of the city also, with spacious open air places in the middle. There is contemporary art museum inside. Also many concerts, exhibitions, other programs. Must check the program from the website. There is a security check point, you can enter saying where you are going.

One of the things I love the most about Madrid is the city’s robust support for the arts and culture. There is no better place to show it than the Conde Duque Cultural Center. The center offers free cultural programming in film, music, visual art, and also provides a library to the public. It’s such a great place!

Wonderful open air venue: we went to see “The infernal comedy” starring John Malkovich organized by los “Veranos De la Villa”. Seating, sound and lighting were great and we had an amazing evening.
My advice: bring a fan since it was extremely warm even at night (at 11pm it was 30 degrees).

Yelp
For some odd reason the Museum of Contemporary Art Conde Duque does not have a page here on Yelp. This is the 'square' it's in. Strange. Anyhow - it was free and halfway decent. It included an exhibition of a famous Spanish writer from the surrealist period and a nice lil' collection. It only took about 45 minutes to walk through - though I think a whole floor was closed or under construction.

Yelp
The Conde Duque has been converted from an old military building to house a library, exhibitions, concerts and conferences. It is currently undergoing some renovation work - so parts of it are a building site - but there is still plenty to see. There is a display of contemporary Spanish art and several gallery spaces with changing exhibitions. I loved the exquisite carvings of Alonso Cano.
There was no information in English unfortunately.

Yelp
My favorite part at Conde Duque is the library.
As a student I was looking for a quite, convenient, beautiful designed place in the center of Madrid and this perfectly fit to my needs.
The library, which focuses on Music and art, offers a nice space with many young people around and free wifi.
In order to get you Free Wifi you have to register at the entrance (its free) and you will get a member card which will serve you while here.
The only problem I found was that the library is closed from Saturday 14:00 till Monday. So if you look for a weekend library, this is not the perfect place.
