Where to Stay in Tokyo When You Visit in 2025

"A few minutes' walk from several subway and train stations, this oasis has spacious rooms with tea kettles and coffee makers, bathrooms with luxury bath products, an in-house steak-focused eatery, and a spa that uses natural spring water." - Matthew Kepnes

I had a pleasant stay here and would definitely consider coming back again one day! The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful — I truly appreciate their warm hospitality. The spa is wonderful! The shower has great water pressure, and they provide everything you might need — body and hair shampoo, face cleanser, toner, cotton buds, comb, towels, lockers, hair dryers, and even a resting area where you can dry your hair comfortably after your spa session. There’s also a water dispenser available. I really enjoyed using the spa every day. The only downside was that my room was located in another building, so I had to cross the road each time to access the spa. The room itself was average. The carpet looked quite old, and the entrance area (where you put your shoes) had a noticeable odor. The shower water pressure was weak, which is why I preferred showering at the spa. On the plus side, the beds were cozy, the pillows were fine, and the room cleaning service was excellent. The location is very convenient — plenty of food options and drug store nearby. I also used their laundry facilities. The dryer wasn’t working at the time, but a kind staff member offered to help dry our clothes, which I really appreciated! Overall, a great experience thanks to the lovely staff and relaxing spa.

We stayed a week in the hotel and were surprised. The location in Ueno is great for vacation because Ueno has great public transport options. Despite the near and beautiful market the rooms were quite. Don't get confused, there are 2 hotels called centurion in Ueno and both habe 2 buildings (all shown on Google maps). The Rezeption is on the 2nd floor (for both hotels). The staff was extremely friendly. Have never seen something like this. We forgot a hoodie in immigration at the airport and only wanted to call lost & found from The Rezeption. There managed all and the hoodie was send to the hotel the next day. Thank you very very much. The hotel has a lot of free amenities like towels, razors etc. The spa is separated for man and women. Man contain a 100 degree sauna, 40 degree swimming pool and 12 degree pool. A lot of space to relax and a few weights for training. However you are not allowed in the gym if you have tattoos. They offer patched at the reception but that only helps for small tattoos. However that is 'normal' for a lot of spas in Japan.

I have stayed at 27 different hotels in Tokyo from luxe hotels to simple inns and even saunas, and 83 total accommodations all over Japan. Ever since I discovered Centurion Hotel & Spa Ueno Station, I keep coming back, this being my 5th time here. My travels to Tokyo will never be complete without a stay here. The spa here is the most ideal, perfect temperatures for the hot and cold bath, & sauna. What I keep coming back to is the service and the culture of the staff. Special mention to Anastasia who recognizes their most loyal customers and always pleasant to meet when you pass by the lobby, she is very welcoming and authentic, and Fujisan who is a ball of pure energy, she will attend to your every need, from luggage keep to pressing the elevator buttons for you when your hands are full and all with a perfect smile. They even have a charming little piano at the lobby where guests are welcome to play and the staff are a willing audience who will clamor for an encore. I didn’t play but was witness to some guests who generously shared their talent. This is a unique atmosphere in Tokyo or in any other Japanese hotel that I’ve ever visited. They have a multitude of room types from cabins to Japanese ryokan style, I haven’t even tried them all, but I promise you I will. Situated near the Ginza, Hibiya, and Oedo lines of the Tokyo Metro and the JR line and Keisei line you will get to any point of Tokyo from here. Izakayas, drug stores, Donki’s, supermarkets and convenience stores are everywhere.

The biggest plus point was the location of the hotel - smack right in the middle of the food alleys of Ueno. The hotel was about 6 to 7 minutes walk from Ueno Train Station and 5 to 6 minutes walk from the Keisei Ueno Train Station (Skyliner service to and from Narita Airport). It was relatively easy to navigate the area and we were spoilt for food options. My children enjoyed the bunk bed in the hotel room. The rooms are clean and have ample power points. The public bath in the hotel is well equipped - sauna, cold and hot bath, rest area and grooming area etc. The hotel staff were all well trained, polite and professional.

The room and bathroom were very small. On the third day of our stay, we requested bottled water and were informed that complimentary water was provided only on the first day. In addition, there were no coffee or tea facilities available in the room, which was disappointing given the standard of the hotel.

Fantastic 3 night stay here in Ueno!!! The best part is the location and the second is the staff. They are incredibly friendly and helpful! Rooms are simple but enough for my wife and baby. Spa is nice. Will definitely come back!

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the hotel’s location is excellent—just a short walk from the train station, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. However, the rooms are extremely small. I understand that many hotels in this area tend to be compact, but with four people in the room, it was very difficult to move around comfortably. The bathroom was especially tight, almost reminiscent of an airplane lavatory. While it’s a nice hotel overall, it may not be the most convenient option for families due to the limited space.

Rooms are small and clean, really great location Female check in staff is extremely rude. I’ve never experience this anywhere else (been all over Japan and stayed here a few times) male staff was checking us in while I inform him that all is under the same last name (he has all the passports in his hand) she just barge in and literally yelled “T H E N A M E” in condescending tone mine you, i wasn’t talking to her and I can speak English she just keep saying “name name reservation” in a completely silent lobby… Imo, This person shouldn’t be working she is not stable. “Nyein” if you read this review lower your voice please and have some manners Ps. Lobby is on 2nd floor :) and you might be in one or another building
