Buying ceramic by the pound? No, I mean kilo. But yes, that's the idea. Shelves hold pieces of pottery at different prices per kg, you pick what you like, and take it up to the register to be weighed up and rung up. There are some items that are sold by the piece as well.
Pottery of different sizes, shapes, and colors: flower pots, baking dishes, bowls, mugs, jugs, plates, platters, tagines, tiles, vases, decorative pieces (such as little sardines that are perfect as souvenirs)... all in pleasing arrangement. Some pieces look distinctly Portuguese, some vaguely Japanese. There are also some less than perfect pieces in the corner at a ridiculous price.
At this point, I have to thank my husband, the sole voice of sanity. If not for him, I probably would have bought so much stuff I won't be able to fit into my suitcase. Or if I could, the overweight surcharge would make not-so-great buys after all. Nonetheless, it's really worth going in to check this place out.
