Cerro El Baúl

Close to Xela, easy to hike very beautiful panorama view of Xela !

About an hour walk up the hill to a cool view and a super fun slide!

DO NOT FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS TO THIS LOCATION! It will take you on side roads though what could be private property with vicious dogs. I was attacked by a dog en route ending my trip to Guatemala. It looks like a great view, however we never made it because we had to take a detour to the hospital. I hope this review can help others avoid the situation I encountered.

Location is incorrect on maps. The view point is right at the top, you have to follow the road all the way around. It's hard to get lost if you just follow the road. It's near the slides area and sort of ring road which is correct in google maps. Walking from Parque Central took us 3 hours return, with 2x 30 year olds going at a leisurely pace and stopping along the way for photos. There was a couple of vendors set up up top selling fresh fruit and other small snacks, which was super nice. I've heard this path can be quite unsafe so it's best to go on the weekend when there's a more people around. But leave your valuables at home just in case. There were quite a few people walking, running, biking and driving along the road when we were there around noon on a Sunday.

Fun hike. DO NOT FOLLOW THE GOOGLE MAPS WALKING ROUTE. IT IS DANGEROUS WITH DOGS. Look at the map of where the start of the trail is and walk there. Google has you take the “fastest” route which is walking to the end of a neighborhood’s road, cutting through someone’s backyard, and then joining the trail buy hiking up the side of the hill. There is a clear and easy trail, do not follow Google.

Great place for hiking or going for a picnic.
