The Cervantes is located in Old San Juan. You are within walking distance of nearly everything. Plus, there is a free trolley that stops right in front of the hotel as well. This hotel is smaller than what I had expected...But the rooms are very clean and nice. We were greeted by friendly staff that gave us a map of Old San Juan and showed us around a bit. When we walked into our room, we had 2 bottles of cold water, and our ice bucket was nice and full. The bed is fairly comfy (a bit kn the firm side)...But the sheets...Oh my, they are amazingly soft! The shower is tiled and has good water pressure. There were robes as well as nice complimentary toiletries. Complimentary breakfast as well, served from 8:30-10:30. Small selection, but it did have wait service, which I found to be rather nice. Good working A/C...So we were never hot. Overall, this has bee. A good experience for us!

The location was right in Old San Juan, the staff was very helpful and respectful. The room a/c unit worked well which was important regarding the weather outside in San Juan. There was a balcony that looked over the street with some nice Spaniard-influenced architecture. Carpet was less pleasurable than expected, definitely needed a deep clean- but the hotel was overall well kept and was much nicer on the inside than the outside. 4 stars well deserved.

Google
Room and bathroom were big & the bed was comfortable. The biggest issue we had was that the window/doors to outside were so thin that you could hear everything going on in the street below and it was an area where people would be walking around and screaming until late into the night, so it was very difficult to fall asleep. The other issue was that the doors to get inside your room were so heavy that they could only slam shut with a large bang. This also made it very difficult to sleep. Very nice hotel other than the noises & a great location in walking distance to the cruise port for Carnival!

No electricity the first few hours (City Problem?), delayed check in, with no lights for a while. The carpet in the room was really dirty, our socks and clean feet were black after walking only a little bit in the room. There was no replacement room available the same night, but another room was offered the next night, which we declined. Breakfast starts only at 8:30 which doesn't work for business or busy tourist plans. Good breakfast, excellent espresso coffee! Windows are old and the street is so noisy that I didn't sleep hardly anything. The staff was very friendly and very helpful, management agreed thankfully to let us cancel our reservation after the first night. No internet/wifi in the rooms, only in lobby.

We loved it!! Except for the noise on Saturday night - it was an experience we will never forget. We toured the downtown area and the fort. We found the staff wonderful - they couldn't do enough for us. So the room was a bit small - who needs a big room - we were only there to sleep. We just loved San Juan - we were only there for a day but we hope to go back again

Google
Great location with walking distance to the main attractions in old San Juan, cordial staff and good food, however, continental breakfast seems so little that you definitely need to order from their main menu so consider breakfast not included, the rooms smelled like humidity and you can't adjust the AC. Only 3 stars because the smell in the rooms was really uncomfortable but tolerable.

DON'T DO IT! I did a lot of research before booking this place and I am not sure why people rate it so highly, I saw a couple bad reviews but their is always someone with something bad to say but mostly positive. Even lonely planet's book on Puerto Rico said it was great. So I was confident we would have a great last 2 nights in PR at this hotel. However, when I got here I was extremely disappointed and felt like I was duped! It was NOT worth $216/night, this was the "deal" I got through searching on TripAdvisor. So I don't know who to leave a bad review for, the hotel, TripAdvisor or Lonely Planet. Anyway, here is my experience. The hotel is located in a great spot. The staff was fine too. The lobby was clean but empty and desolate. They have a table set up for food service but I don't even think they serve alcohol or food other than their " free breakfast," Which is scare, small and very basic. We had a room on the 5th floor, it was small and very sparse, the floor felt like it had not been cleaned or vacuumed in a long time. It was disgusting to walk on with bare feet. The room was dark with curtains that you can not open. You can open the windows but their is a sign asking to keep the air conditioning on at all times, I didn't want to waste energy so I opened the windows to air out the room. I had to air it out because the bathroom had a bad smell that would carry into the small room. It was like the sewer was wafting up, keep the lid close, I think it helped. The room also needed some cosmetic help, a fresh coat of paint to cover some patch work, a clean information book at least, a head board that is mounted to the wall and not crooked are a few minor things. When we first got here, we laid down for a quick nap, during that time someone opened our door, realized people were in it, said sorry, and left. It was odd. We left as soon as we were recharged to explore the city (which is great by the way). At night, I was awaken by loud sounds in the street but again we were in the center of town so that is to be expected. In the morning, we went down stair for the free breakfast. They didn't have much but it was "free" with the over priced room. This place needs some TLC and new approach for customer service and hospitality. It sounds like it used to be great but I would not say that anymore.

Google
Excellent hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are small but very charming and well maintained. Our stay was excellent, as the staff at the front desk went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed, held our bags for us when necessary, and arranged transportation to the airport. Highly recommended!

Yelp
About: Booked on 'Hotels App' appropriate for couples has a nice TV set, balcony view on to the Main Street, the room is very small though but that could be because we got the deal on the app. The bed is queen sized and very cozy and comfortable. Max on the room I booked only holds 2 people Nearby: The beach is like a 5 minute drive but there are plenty of places to eat nearby almost every corner which is sick! Cons: No parking for your car only garage.

Yelp
I loved my stayed at Chateau Cervantes. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights prior to leaving on a cruise. All the hotels in Old San Juan are pretty pricey. We decided on Cervantes when El Convento was booked. I am very happy with my decision. The hotel is very small, only 12 rooms I believe. The rooms themselves are updated and very nice. The bathrooms are good sized. All rooms have either a balcony or large windows that can be opened. Yes, Old San Juan can get a little loud, but we had no problems sleeping at all! There is a restaurant on the first floor that was very good. Granted we only ate there for breakfast but the food was very reasonably priced and good. For hotel guests the continental breakfast is free (includes danishes, rolls, juice, fruit, coffee, etc.) or you can opt to order off the menu. We also had room service one night which leads me to the only bad part about my stay. I had an allergic reaction (I'm allergic to nuts) to one of the dishes. The staff was very helpful in finding us a cab and a hospital. They checked up on me to make sure I was doing good. The helped to make a bad experience not so bad. Although I was a little frustrated they wouldn't take any of the meal off of our bill considering we ate hardly any of it. The location is amazing. Very close to the cruise ship pier (although there is another pier in San Juan so check which one your ship leaves from). Walking distance from all the sites in OSU. My husband and I walked everyone (except for the brief hospital trip I talked about above). There is a sports bar called the Brick House less than 50 yards down the road if you need your sports fix while on vacation. We watched the NFL games here. The owner of the bar is the bartender and he is awesome. If you are heading to Old San Juan I highly recommend Chateau Cervantes.

Yelp
The Chateau Cervantes is a small, boutique hotel, centrally located in Old San Juan. The good: Our room was stylishly decorated. There was a safe and large closet. There were two comfortable bath robes and a spacious shower. There was a small balcony with a view of the street behind the hotel. The staff was quite friendly and the hotel is in a good location to explore Old San Juan. The bad: Our room was very small and the ceiling was low. Additionally, because of the high humidity, some type of mold or mildew had taken hold of the room, which was heavily air conditioned and perfumed upon our arrival. Our sheets smelled like body odor and we found hairs on our pillow case. Our room was fairly quiet until about 5am, when some kind of trash collection and then construction began. The continental breakfast only included breads, coffee and juice. The initial rate (through booking dot com) did not include a large tax of about $25/night. Conclusion: You can do better for less. Old San Juan isn't huge but you can probably get a better rate at a better maintained hotel.

Yelp
Pros: -Close to many shops and nightlife - Beautiful decor - Large rooms - Glass everywhere Cons: - No sense of hospitality. The hotel claimed to be sold out, despite claimed availability on Booking.com listing. For their communication failure, they "upgraded" the reservation to the only available room-- the most expensive room-- for a price (the presidential suite). The room was in total disrepair. Go hospitality! We stayed because last minute bookings in San Juan late on a Saturday evening are near-impossible. - Fire hazard at fire escape, right outside of presidential suite: stairwell cluttered with industrial materials, including a tank with combustibles (fire + fire escape stairwell with flammable items nearby= certain death). - No evening staff (we called in advance for a late check-in). The lack of a staff to speak to about our concerns did not invite rest. We had to suck it up. - Deceptive/ confused staff: I asked for late check-out. First, the front desk asked for how long. Before I could answer, I was denied. Seconds later, I was told late check out was available for a price-- because the room was booked for the same day and needed to be ready by a particular hour.Wait-- either the room is available or it isn't-- or I smell a hustle. Late check-out in other three stars is typically free or completely unavailable. Again, go hospitality! When I complained about the room's condition to the hotel, they claimed (lied!) the room was in perfect condition, prior to my entering it and that I had stated so myself. I do wonder how they feel they can blame stains generated by corrosion on me. - Meager continental breakfast: concentrate orange juice, un-toasted toast, old croissants, cheese that had been out for hours and a side of fly. - Yes, a fly in the food. The combo front desk/ waiter didn't seem to notice. - Dirty tub (yellow stains), table (permanent stains?), ice scoop, ice tub water, and stairs. - Shower is in disrepair: hot water is nearly impossible to turn off and wall cover for shower head and glass door flap are both detached. - No phone in the room (for those who are traveling without your own mobile) - No soap in soap dispenser by lobby. What instead? A mysterious green slime - Some doors stick to the floor and are difficult to close-- chiefly, the bathroom door. - Musty odor in the bathroom area. - Mysterious green slime in toilet flush button (corrosion?) - Toilet roll dispenser allows for roll to fling into neighbouring bidet, if you pull even slightly. Gross. Book a four star for this price. - Balcony view of a parking lot. - No parking or valet (the closest garages charge hourly, ranging $16- $68 for an evening). Parking is a horrible hassle in San Juan. As a seasoned Puerto Rico traveler, for overnight stays, on a weekend, it is often best when a hotel has its own. - Nicked couch.

Yelp
The Chateau Cervantes is a small, boutique hotel, centrally located in Old San Juan, walking distance to the Port and all of the charm of Old San Juan. Although our stay started off on a low note, the staff took great care of us and even let us keep our bags there after the cruise even though we didn't have a reservation that night. It is not a polished, franchised hotel...so you need to check your preconceived expectations at the door and enjoy it for what and where it is.

Yelp
Stayed here for one night last month. We were leaving on a cruise the next evening. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Lobby is very nice. We had a room on the fourth floor. Rather small but it was clean and did not have any bad odors. Very small balcony overlooked a street and more buildings behind the hotel. The bathroom was the nicest thing about this room. Sink, toilet, tile and walk in shower were all updates. Shower was a pleasant surprise after a long plane flight. Breakfast in morning was very good. Fresh coffee made to order, cereal, sweet rolls and bread. yogurt, sliced ham and cheese and fresh fruit. It is not a short walk to the pier but it is possible( not with luggage). In a good location for walking in San Juan. Lots of small restaurants in area.

Yelp
This little place is smack dab in the middle of all that Old San Juan has to offer. It is within walking distance of just about everywhere you want to go. You can also use the little trolley to get around if walking isn't your thing. We were warmly greeted and found our room to be clean and efficient. It is a bit noisy if you're on the street side as San Juan is very lively at night! The continental breakfast is adequate with breads, pastries, juice, and coffee. Some of the friendliest staff we've run into in quite a while. We stayed here pre-cruise and you could easily walk to the closer pier if that's where your ship heads out... or grab one of the plentiful and nicely priced cabs. We'd stay here again, but the Wi-Fi is spotty.

Yelp
Hotel staff was very friendly but the rooms were a little run down. They could use some maintenance but they have the foundation to be excellent rooms. The rooms were quite cold but that is typically ok with me. Location was great and restaurants were easy to get to.

Yelp
This place is very convenient as it is right in the middle of San Juan walking distance to everything. Across from the Pier, but horrible customer service. They tried to charge us for "stained" towels which was simply dirt that can be washed off a towel. How do you expect people to wash??? We literally had to pull out a tide pen and show them it is not a stain, lol. The continental breakfast is only muffin, danish, and coffee. Also they lock the doors after a certain hour, but did not inform us, so coming back from a night out we were locked out of our hotel and had no clue how to get it. For one night stay before leaving for a cruise I recommend but due to the poor service, I could not do more than one night.

Yelp
Really amazing place! It is beautiful and loved it's historical charm. We had a huge room with amazing bathroom/shower area! Loved the view. Downfall was the street stayed busy all night and we could hear everything. Not good if your a sensitive sleeper. That was the only issue, which is unavoidable. :-) Great staff very accommodating! Location was perfect!

Yelp
Located in the Viejo San Juan, this quaint hotel is a great place to stay, if there isn't any roadwork being done on the street behind the hotel. Ugh. The hotel said they were not notified about the roadwork and we didn't really feel like hunting down another place to stay since we already had reservations. They put is in the highest room in our price range so that we would be as far away from the noise as possible and they also provided earplugs. Those suckers came in handy at 8am when they started working. They allowed us to sleep in till about 10am or so. The mattress is super comfortable and they have Egyptian sheets and duvets. All rooms are non-smoking. They have the standard shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash and what not. Funny thing is that their conditioner and body wash come from Chiang Mai, Thailand but the soap is made in Puerto Rico. They include two robes in the standard room and a bottle of water and filled ice bucket for turndown service. There is a safe in the closet which is a nice addition. Rooms are neat and clean. We did have an issue with the water not heating up in the bathroom but it was resolved. Breakfast is included which consisted of fruit, croissant and Danish with orange juice and coffee. Free wifi and CD/DVD player also available. The front desk is very friendly and full of information on where to eat, things to do and places to see. They were even able to book us a rental car and hotel in another city. It's on one of the main streets so sights and attractions are in walking distance. There is a discount if you book online.

Yelp
We arrived super late, and were not happy to find that our room was TINY, not to mention the bathroom has only a sliding door (semi- transparent) to separate it from the room, which was not at all romantic or convenient. Knowing that this is a boutique hotel, I understood going in that the room would be smaller. But here is what I did not understand.. we were the ONLY ones in the hotel. A full bed did not suffice for a mother and daughter. Why couldn't they offer us a room with two beds? I will never know. And the price was outrageous. And the free breakfast is coffee/juice and pastries. I am allergic to gluten and couldn't have anything they offered . When I asked for at least some fruit, they couldn't offer that either. Quite frustrating. It is in a good location in San Juan, but everything is so close by eachother anyway. I would recommend staying anywhere else but here unless you are in the mood to pay a lot for so little. Also, the wifi did not even reach our room. We would have to go downstairs to use it. where the air conditioner was not even working.

Louis F.

Yelp
Pros: Very helpful and knowledgable staff, central location, comfortable and clean rooms. Cons: Water temperature in the sink/shower was unpredictable and the rooms were EXTREMELY cold (not necessarily a bad thing considering San Juan's weather). We stayed for five days and there was nothing that the hotel's staff was unable to accommodate. Although the restaurant in the hotel no longer exists, the building itself is right next at least ten other bars/restaurants; finding food is not a challenge--plus they serve breakfast. For the entire time that we were there, the hotel was totally booked yet we saw and heard little evidence of other guests--it was as though we had our entire floor to ourself. If I ever come back to San Juan, I will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was amazing (we were in unit 9). The shower was amazing. Very clean and comfortable. Within easy walking distance to everything in the old San Juan area, and an easy 15 minute drive to the Air Port. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The place is quaint, cozy, and very clean. The noise on the street can be a little much at times, but it does seem to quiet down about 9 pm. We would definitely recommend this place to friends or family and it would be our first choice for accommodations if we return to the Old San Juan area in the future!

Yelp
Awesome hotel, awesome staff, awesome location. Nuff said!!! If you complain about a free breakfast how dare you. If you complain about the noise go stay in the middle of nowhere , and if you complain about the fees well you are a moron! The fees and taxes are clearly listed.

Yelp
Stayed here for two days before our cruise on RC. Clean, good service and the right price. Centrally located in Old San Juan and surrounded by some great restaurants? Gives you the feel of the French Quarter in New Orleans. Will be back!

Yelp
Great, euro-style hotel in Old San Juan. Within a reasonably short walk of El Morro and other attractions. Lost a star for the lack of hot water in our room but otherwise great place for vacation travel.

Candc S.

Yelp
We stayed at the Cervantes the night before our cruise departed from San Juan. The location was perfect - very close to both of the forts in Old San Juan, restaurants, and most anything else you'd want to see in the area. Staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and more than met our needs. We even had a balcony with a cute view of a quiet street. The continental breakfast was included, but only consisted of bread, muffins, and a pastry, plus coffee and juice - it would have been nice to have fresh fruit, but oh well. The restaurant looked very nice but we opted for something a little less formal elsewhere. Overall it was very pretty, well maintained, and the staff was great. Visited December 2011

Yelp
Very very very nice hotel. Came here for my girlfriends birthday and had a good time. We ended up going to a bar down the street and it was filled with locals trying to have a good time. Everything is cheap In the neighborhood which is a plus and it does not have a parking lot however you can park across the street in the parking lot for a small fee. One thing I might change is that the shower does not have somewhere to store items such as soap or shampoo.

Yelp
Argh! There's a smell of mold everywhere ! The floor feels like you're walking on little damp craters, as if there's been a flood of some kind. In some places near the bathroom the carpet is actually wet. A shame because the hotel is nice and so are the staff.

Diane W.

Yelp
I booked this room and decided that I did not want to stay here so I canceled in January. For reasons unknown I was charged for $356.80 for a room I never even seen. I called the hotel to see what was going on and they were very rude. I asked to speak to the owner and the manager (Judy) would not let me speak to him. I just hope if anyone has this problem get better results than I have. I would not be complaining if I did not cancel but I booked two rooms and canceled both of them and only one was canceled. Good luck to anyone whom has a problem because they are not very good about resolving them. As I read the other reviews I see that customer service is a problem with them. Diane

James Q.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Cancelled our room after booking it 14 months in advance to get a call the night before telling us that our room had no air conditioning. Now our friends had purchased the Presidential Suite, and when asked the manager about this so called no air conditioning room, it didn't exist. So these people lied, so they could make a room available. Terrible people. Terrible experience.

James M.

Yelp
A great place to stay, just around the corner from all the restaurants and shops, cafes, etc. Pretty much everything you want regardless of your vacationing style. The hotel is beautiful outside and nicely appointed inside. Staff and management were fantastic and helped out at every turn. I'd stay here again in a flash.

Elle S.

Yelp
We booked for five nights and after dealing with the horrible customer, inconsistent billing policies, and a room that was not renovated ( holes in the carpet and ceiling, rotting wood on the doors, and dust/dirt throughout the room) like advertised we decided to cancel the remaining nights on our reservation and go to another hotel. While cancelling the remaining nights both the manager and owner of the hotel were nowhere to be found. We had to discuss issues with The manager, Anna Velis, over the phone where she argued with us and gave no apologie for the horrible service and incompetent staff. She was of no help and shouldn't be working in customer service. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL!!!

Yelp
I recently lost my home in St Thomas to hurricane Irma, and was evacuated to Puerto Rico. During this difficult time, I have received so much love and compassion from the people of Puerto Rico. And one prime example of that has been from the staff of Chateau Cervantes. Even though Old San Juan was dealing with their own complications from Irma, Chateau Cervantes was doing everything to make their guests feel safe and comfortable. Despite the chaos and obstacles outside (major power outages in Old San Juan and an unexpected influx of guests fleeing hurricane affected areas), they stayed orderly and professional and got things up and running in no time. For myself and the other guests who had just arrived from the USVI and BVI, it was a blessing to have that normalcy restored. But it wasn't just their professionalism that was appreciated, but the genuine warmth and kindness of their staff. Yolania Landeta and Kyara Torres saw me crying at breakfast and sweetly offered some tissues and comforting words before picking up the bill for my breakfast, which they did not have to do. And they didn't stop there. While I was waiting for a taxi to pick up my cat from her boarder and go to the airport, they surprised me with a care package containing snacks, toiletries, and some food for my cat. I was touched and moved to tears by their thoughtfulness. It gives me hope for my island that we have such wonderful neighbours in Puerto Rico, who are supporting us and looking out for us. I know where I'll be staying next time I'm in Old San Juan. Thank you, Chateau Cervantes!

Gabino C.

Yelp
I was due to arrive July 13 with my family. When we arrived at the hotel the G.M. advised us due to a previous storm our room was not available for us to occupy due to room damage. So okay I thought nothing of this and was looking forward to the "OTHER" hotel they booked for us. We were advised it was a very nice hotel and we would enjoy our stay there. Now dont get me wrong I work in a hotel myself and this stuff happens all the time. However if you are going to walk a guest to another hotel it has to be the same rating and type of hotel if not better... Well let me tell you something they sent us to the S.J. Suites 3 blocks north of the Cervantes. This was a TOTAL DUMP you had to get buzzed into the building just to get to the reception desk on the 2nd floor. I will say this, the employees at this hotel were AMAZING! Very nice and friendly people. I would normally be okay with staying in this type of hotel if I had booked it. However I booked and paid to stay at the Cervantes. The S.J. Suites was disturbing beyond imagination. After checking into the hotel you had to go through another security gate on your own floor just to gain access to your rooms. After that the wifi was not working in our room but that was an easy fix you just have to go into the hallway and reboot Linksys yourself. There was no telephone in the room, no hot water, no ironing board and this was without question a doctor/business office before. Now again at no fault of the S.J. Suites as I was not expecting to stay there. Upon checking into our rooms I attempted to call The Cervantes and advise them of what was going on. I spoke with the front desk agent who was more than welcome to hear my complaints. I however wanted to speak with the General Manger that walked us. Who without question was not available to talk to me. I was advised to call the follow morning to speak with this individual. That following morning upon calling I was advised they are not in till later that evening. I called again that evening and the G.M. was still not there. I was beyond irate and upset that after being sent to a less than adequate hotel the G.M. who walked us seemed to avoid wanting to speak to me about what happened. Oh and I forgot to say the most important part. Our friends who were on their honeymoon was also checking in that day. They very fortunately arrived a few hours before us and were booked in the same suite as us. They were upgraded to the Penthouse which we had an amazing time visiting them. However as a fellow hotel employee you have no right to disclose any information about your other guest. This hotel had the nerve to ask our friends if it was okay to send us to another hotel. Even the fact our friends stated we were coming it's under no right of the hotel to verify or confirm our status with ANYONE! This hotel even though it "LOOKED" nice the experience they put me and my family through with their extremely unprofessional staff was beyond disturbing. I would hope in the future they will learn normal hotel standards and policies. As they seemed not competent in any of their actions. I will NEVER RECOMMEND THE CERVANTES TO ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
