This Historic A-List Hot Spot in Portofino Has a Stunning New Look—And Is the Place to Be Seen This Summer | Vogue

"Dating to the 14th century, this abbey with spectacular gardens now functions as a scenic wedding venue and even served as a regional inspiration for the current revival of a nearby historic hotel’s interiors." - Radhika Seth

The Abbey is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. Since the Abbey is a private residence, it is only open to the public on Sunday from 1000 to 1200. The tours are guided and provide the Abbey's history in both Italian and English. The Abbey's gardens are spectacular. There is no parking on the grounds.

La Cervara is one of the most exquisite and beautiful abbeys in the world. The views from the abbey are breathtaking. We were fortunate enough to have our wedding at La Cervara. The staff were very professional and both the wedding and reception were seamless. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. The seafood is utterly amazing. If you are looking to get married in the Portofino area, we highly recommend La Cervara.

The location managers invent costs that were not discussed in advance. The staff is unfriendly, the food is below average and the communication with the location is a nightmare. Hands off! This is a rip-off! Never experienced such a bad behavior of location managers.

Beautiful place awful experience. We were literally kicked out from this sanctuary at we just set for a short break there after a long hike from S. Margherita Ligure.

Abbazia della Cervara was built in 1361 and is surrounded by formal gardens. Over the centuries, the abbey has hosted Benedictine monks, three popes and a saint (Catherine of Siena), and the French king, François I, who spent a less convivial time here as a prisoner after the 1525 Battle of Pavia. Tours take in the gardens, 15th-century chapterhouse, 16th-century cloister and the Saracen Tower.
