I loved the long pistes (should be no. 5) which I can skiied down from Plateau Rosa to Cervinia. I visited before Christmas and it was not too crowded. On one day, we just took the cable cars all the way up to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise on Swiss side and returned to Cervinia without skiiing. It cost 99 euro for travelling up to Glacier Paradise and return while it was 60 odd euro for skiing on the Italy side. It was not cheap but considering the size of the ski resort, it should be cheaper than skiing in Swiss. Beware that if you go up to the Glacier Paradise, it could be very windy. Indeed, the cable car may not operate on windy days. What you can do is to get a ski pass for Italy side and if you know that the weather allows, you can top up your pass to go up to the Glacier Paradise or even to Zermatt town by cable car or ski. Of course you need to pay a lot more to go to Zermatt.anyway, it's nice and a unique experience to ski with Matterhorn at the backdrop.
