Cezanne's studio? As he left it? Still in existence? Are you friggin' kidding me??? Cezzane died in 1906, at which point someone bought his property and locked his studio door, leaving the studio undisturbed for 30 years. The buyer had the insight to know that Cezanne would one day be considered one of the great impressionists. Fast forward a few decades...the property changes hands and is at risk of being torn down in the name of "progress". This occurs on several occasions. Finally, in the 1960's, funds are raised to buy and permanently protect the property, and who does this....TWO AMERICANS!!!!! Unbelievable. The studio is as close as you will ever get to a master impressionist painter. The objects Cezanne used in many of his paintings liter the shelves. His old turpentine bottles, oil paints, pot belly stove, smock, hats, jackets, cane.....all right there. The objects have been moved around over the years as some items are loaned out for exhibitions etc. But all of Cezanne's belongings crowd the studio. It is a surreal experience to visit this place. Highly recommended, especially if you can see his original works in Paris either before or after visiting the studio.
