Our best meal in Paris in terms of value and taste. Yes, L'epicure was better, but it wasn't 4 times better than Cezembre. Cezembre was very small and they served a set menu. Everyone gets the same thing. This style of service helps cut cost (less food waste, less man power needed for the prep). If you are not picky, then the 5 courses for 59 euro is a fantastic deal. We started with a little amuse bouche of meaty carrot saffron soup with jamon and chicken foam. Then came the sweet perfectly seared scallops in a cream sauce with savory hen of the woods mushrooms. there were several scallops in there, so the courses were generously portioned. After scooping up every bit of cream sauce, next was the tender buttery foie gras, with a little diced mango on the side, so it had just a hint of sweet and sour. Fish dish followed and we received a nice filet of pollack. Pollack is a cheap fish, usually made into fish sticks and imitation crab meat in US, but fresh pollack treated the right way was delicious and just as tasty as cod or bass. Last savory dish was seared beef filet, neatly stacked potato pave, sunchoke, mushroom, and artichoke. It was delicious from start to finish. The dessert, poached pears with chocolate sorbet and whipped cream was perhaps the weakest course. My best food friend didn't care for the watery pear and I thought it was ok.
