18 of the Best Spots in Patagonia

"I visited Chaitén after the 2008 volcanic eruption and found the beach hauntingly beautiful: ash and eerie remains of trees still cover the shore, some nearby houses remain buried in ash as rebuilding slowly continues, and the quiet, peaceful spot is perfect for a sunset." - Matthew Kepnes

Hike is incredible. It is located 20 minutes from town, and along the way there are hitchhikers everywhere, so if you have toom think about picking one up. The hike is clearly marked the whole with information placards along the route. Going up is 1.5 mikes of pretty strenuous straight up, lots of big steps which makes for 2000 ft elevation gain. Bring lots of water and a snack. A big portion of the trail is shaded but i still recommend going early in the day because the hike will get you sweaty. The top is incredible with views of a lake, the river, the crater, and a snowy peak in the distancia. This is a popular hike so be prepared to see lots of people, a full parking lot, and many tourists. Very wonderful hike if its a clear day.

Did this hike on February 19, 2020 after getting off the ferry Al Caleta Gonzalo. The hike itself was not bad at all. On a scale of 1 - 10 (1 = walking on flatground, 10 = out of breath and scrambling on all four), I would give it a 5 rating. We took our time and it took us a total of 2h 50m return, including the time we spent up there taking pictures. It is about 5km return and 620m elevation gain. We were fortunate to have great weather, cloudy on the way up and partial clearing up top. The view was magnificent. I definitely recommend this hike and would say anyone can do it if you take your time.

An incredible experience. The path starts at a free car park and is well marked all the way up. Most of the walk is through forest so you don't see the crater until right at the top. Look out for a great variety of plants and wildlife. Near the top the ground is very loose so stick to the wooden steps of the path. At the top there is a bench! The only water source we saw was the river crossed near the start so take plenty with you.

Nice 2-4 hours hike up and down depending on how fit you are. But it is quite easy and if you walk slow doable for mostly everyone.

Treking nivel medio alto. Es imponente, hermoso y lleno de historia. La subida es difícil, pero no imposible, lleva al rededor de 3 horas la subida y 2 la bajada. Llevar mucha agua, algo para comer, calzado y bastón de treking.
