Chalet Cannelle, Near Châtel, Abondance Valley, Alps - Explore & Book

"Nowhere is perfect, but Chalet Cannelle comes close. This is a stunning 200-year-old farmhouse with original timbers running wild. It stands on the edge of the tiny hamlet of Suvay in the Abondance Valley, a picture of rural simplicity that gives way to lovely contemporary interiors. The vast lounge has a high ceiling, an open fire and comfy sofas scattered about, but the star of the show is the enormous window that frames huge views of Les Dents du Midi. The 6 chic bedrooms come in cool chalet style. Some have private balconies overlooking the valley and all have smart bathrooms. During the peak ski season (late Dec-April) you have the option to book the whole place, ideal for a house party with family and friends, with owners Andy and Lorraine doing all the hard work. After a lovely breakfast, you’re whisked off to the lifts at Châtel (1km up the road), then disappear into the mountains of the Portes du Soleil, some of the best skiing in Europe. At the end of the day, you return for afternoon tea, a soak in the hot tub, then discover the big surprise - Andy’s outstanding food. If you're after a romantic trip for two, you can book B&B and venture out in the evenings. Whatever you do, just come: it’s gorgeous, it’s great value, and you couldn’t hope to fall into better hands. Highs The house is so beautiful you may spurn the mountains for a day at home. Andy and Lorraine look after you brilliantly and make your stay very specialPerfect for couples but also very family-friendly - extra beds and cots, a family room, a playroom, tailored mealsAndy’s cooking is so much tastier than most of the food you eat in restaurants; whole-chalet rates during the peak ski season include breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner and all your drinks - wine, beer, vin chaudThe Portes du Soleil - 650km of skiing on one very well-priced pass. There’s plenty to do in summer, too: hiking, mountain biking, zip wires, wild swimmingYou don’t need a car in winter and airport transfers are easily arranged Lows Dinners are only served if the whole house is bookedSome of the bedrooms aren’t huge and a couple don’t have much of a viewThis isn’t a ‘ski in, ski out’ chalet, but you’re shuttled to and from the lifts every dayNo TVs in the bedrooms, but there’s one in the lounge (that’s never used!) and the kids' den" - Tom Bell

We had a wonderful stay at Chalet Cannelle! The property is beautifully maintained, and very comfortable. The beds and bathrooms feel luxurious and newly renovated. Andy and Lorraine were fantastic hosts - very knowledgeable on the area and willing to help with anything we needed. The food is outstanding as well - better than most restaurants we’ve experienced here, so it’s a relaxing and very enjoyable experience to sit down to a meal there after a busy day outside! The views are stunning as well. We’ll definitely be returning - thank you Andy and Lorraine!

If you're looking for a truly unforgettable experience in Châtel, do yourself a favour and book a stay at Chalet Cannelle. The hosts, the chalet, and the area all combine to make this a truly special destination. We had the most wonderful stay during summer. The hosts go above and beyond, providing excellent recommendations for exploring the area and serving up a mouthwatering homemade breakfast that set us up perfectly for each day's adventures. Andy and Lorraine truly love the area and making sure people eat excellent food and experience the best of Châtel. The chalet itself is a haven of style and comfort, with everything you need for a relaxing and rejuvenating stay. The attention to detail is impressive, and it's clear pride is taken in their beautiful home. And to top it off, Chalet Cannelle is located in a stunning destination, and we took full advantage of the many summer activities on offer. From hiking and mountain biking to many trips on the gondolas and chairlifts, there is so much to do. What an absolute diamond in the mountains. We can't wait to return, both again in summer and winter.

We had a wonderful week at Chalet Cannelle hosted by Lorraine and Andy. The chalet is exceptionally spacious and spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds and en suite bathrooms for every room. The uninterrupted views of the mountains from the bedrooms and living room are fantastic. The ski lifts are a short ride away and we were efficiently ferried back and forth without ever having to wait. Andy is an amazing chef. The food and wine were exceptional. Starting with tasty canapés around the log fire, followed by a well thought out menu of three courses plus cheese. All ingredients being locally sourced and of the highest quality. Every meal was delicious and never a repeat of what we had in the mountain restaurants. Lorraine and Andy are great hosts and this is unquestionably the best chalet experience you can have.

My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon here and I couldn't resist returning before a work trip in the area. Wonderful welcoming hosts, delicious homemade breakfast, rustic gardens to read in, and stunning natural beauty all around. You'll be glad you went.

Chalet Cannelle is a very special place to stay. A fabulous location with stunning views. A beautiful, peaceful chalet that is informally luxurious, exceedingly comfortable and a joy to be in. Wonderful food - worthy of the finest restaurants. And our peculiar dietary requirements were accommodated without issue. All organised and managed by Lorraine and Andy with great charm and skill, care and attention. We were very well looked after. It was simply lovely. We will be back.

We booked Chalet Cannelle for 9 of us. Communication before the trip wqs excellent with regular updates and help with ski hire, lift passes, airport transfers etc. Lorraine and Andy are superb hosts and the chalet and rooms are lovely. The sitting/dining area is spacious and comfortable and the rooms are well appointed with modern bathrooms. Dino and Lavinia who help out, drove us to and from the clopes each day and were always incredibly punctual on pick up. They are a delightful couple too. Now I come to the food- Andy is a fabulous chef and delighted us every evening with his creations. If you enjoy good food, this one is for you. Andy was also careful to choose meals that you were unlikely to have up the mountain for lunch. All told, this was a great week in a wonderful chalet, impeccable service, food to die for and a lovely bunch of friends. My only reservation about leaving this review is that everyone is going to book it and we won't be able to find a slot again!
