The main dining room of the restaurant Chalet de Gruyères is located on the left‑hand side (if you are walking towards the castle), while there is a veranda on the right - formally, it is also part of the restaurant, and, as far as I understand, they share the same kitchen.
I dined on the veranda, which is a great spot for an outdoor meal when the weather is nice.
The menu isn't too extensive, but it offers not only traditional fondue and raclette (perfectly delicious, as everywhere), but some dishes specific to Gruyères as well.
For instance, I tried the "Soupe de Chalet" ("Chalet soup") here. It is a good, very hearty, and tasty soup - and even if it is not exclusively a Gruyères specialty, I'll still choose to think otherwise -)) It will forever be a Gruyères meal for me!
The wine selection is quite good; you can find a pleasant Swiss wine to pair with your lunch.
Prices are standard for Switzerland (meaning rather high for a tourist, but average by Swiss standards).
In any case, our lunch was well worth the money.
The service is good and fairly prompt, even when the veranda was completely full.
Another advantage of the veranda is that it offers views of one of Gruyères’ main streets - Rue de Château. There is always some activity there, which is interesting to watch, and of course, there are the beautiful old houses. It is very pleasant to dine in such a setting.
A wonderful restaurant with tasty food, good service, and a great view.
