This small guesthouse is perfect for the traveler who doesn't need constant service. The two of us stayed in the Carmen Room on the second floor, which has a large window facing the street. The room is mostly filled by the king bed and is five steps away from the shared kitchenette (microwave, toaster, sink, coffee). The room has a hot water kettle which I used for tea every day. There's a filtered water dispenser in the hallway which was super convenient. The house is walled off from the street like many of the houses in this area and is secured with a locked gate. It doesn't look like a hotel from the outside but inside it has two shady courtyards. On the other side of the street is a city bike rental station. The neighborhood is mostly quiet except for vendors who pass through with loud recorded announcements, which was

Everything feels solid and well-constructed with great attention to detail. Beds are comfortable with crisp snowy white sheets and duvet covers. We chose a suite and had plenty of storage and a very functional kitchen allowing us to take some meals in the room or courtyard.||||The hosts are very welcoming and available if you need them. They show that you don't need to compromise to live an eco-friendly lifestyle. Clever methods of passive lighting brighten the mood as well as the rooms. Heaters are present in the room, though we didn't need them during our stay. Like everything else, they are powered by electricity generated onsite from solar energy.

Chalet is a small, inviting spot that has everything I needed: quiet; clean; safe location; walking distance to sites; and very kind and accommodating staff. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and even arranged to have the continental breakfast ready a little early due to my early checkout. They gave me tips on getting into the Frida Kahlo house (pre-order tickets online to save yourself a long wait in the line--you can show them the ticket on your phone when you arrive), took the time to explain how to get to local highlights, and found me a taxi to Bazar Sabado (a Saturday morning/afternoon artisan's bazaar about 15 minutes away in San Jacinto with art, music, and nice restaurants surrounding the central square.||||From the moment I arrived, I felt instantly at ease and immediately booked a second stay for the end of my Mexico trip. On the first stay, I was in the Catalina room. It's the perfect size for one or two, on the lower level with windows out to a small garden patio, tables, and chairs. There's filtered water, coffee, and tea available in the room and a kitchenette on the next level with a little fridge, microwave, utensils, etc. ||||The room had a flatscreen TV, nice-size closet, hot water, and even a room heater for cool nights (I didn't use it - I like cool nights! - but I tried it out and it heated the place up surprisingly fast! Continental breakfast included coffee or tea, a variety of fruits, and croissants. On my return visit, I stayed in the smaller Conchita room, which also had a smaller closet and bath. It was fine for an overnight stay, but I preferred the Catalina room.||||The area is pleasant and walkable, and the Chalet del Carmen also has bikes available for guests. I wandered around by myself in the daytime and early evening and felt safe. The Chalet is about three blocks from the Frida Kahlo house, and from there I could walk to the Trotsky house, an artisan's market, and other sites. The area is so tranquil, I had to keep reminding myself I was in Mexico City. On my next visit to the DF, I'll definitely book here again.

Lovely place, no frills, but nice, comfortable, well located (close to center and great eats), and people who work here are very nice and helpful with everything. Excelllent value. I stayed in the Carmen room with the King sized bed, which was spacious for 1 and would have nicely accommodated 2. Not sure about the smaller rooms. Breakfast is sparse (just fruit and coffee), but there are plenty of breakfast options within a 5 minute walk, so not a problem at all. Would strongly recommend, for work or touristing in south of city.

great little unique 7 room hotel on the Coyoacan area of Mexico City, very clean and neat place run by a Swiss immigrant to Mexico. Lots of greenery and an open space in the center. Breakfast was basic continental, they do not supply black tea however. Get ready to get lots of stair exercise getting around this cute place. My advice is to book the larger rooms as some of the smaller rooms reminded me of basic tiny cruise ship rooms. We had a major issue on checking in when one of our 3 person rooms was never confirmed to the hotel so we had to scramble to find a VRBO room somewhere in the area. The owner was very apologetic and confirmed that the booking data was never sent to her hotel system. My advice is to contact the hotel in advance and confirm that the booking was sent to the hotel for future stays. Definitely try out this fun hotel!

Location was great! Quiet neighborhood, but within easy walking distance of all the action Coyaocan has to offer (street food, artisan markets, museums, etc.)

Dear Manuel I wanted to thank you for our lovely stay at Chalet del Carmen in April. We loved the calm oasis and cool space of our apartment and felt very at home very quickly. Coyoacan is a wonderful area with the wide open streets bursting with colour from the wisteria and bougainvillea. We very much enjoyed being so close to the market where we had breakfast amid the vivid colours of the fruit and vegetables stalls. A great stay and we will be back next time we are in Mexico City. best regards Martin

We felt disappointed as the pictures and reviews made it sound nicer than it is. ||The location is very good in a quiet residential area but very close to attractions such as the museums, Coyoacan market, main square and restaurants. There is a metro station nearby. ||But everything is absolutely tiny! We were in a 'double' room but the bed felt more like a wide single bed. there was barely space for luggage, even though I didn't have much. the bathroom was uncomfortably small - you definitely couldn't get two people in!||good value but not a particularly enjoyable and memorable experience
