Stopped at a restaurant for a late lunch, 4 people. Food was tasty and hit the spot. The service was horrible. Waiter didn't check on us at all. She acted like she was doing us a favor by serving our food. Flies were everywhere with no escape. Sad experience.

Cafe experience - ABSOLUTELY WORST EXPERIENCE BECAUSE OF THE WAITRESS! We felt there was unnecessary racism towards us especially when we were being polite. Switzerland as a country was our dream destination but the experience with this waitress turned it into a horrible memory just because of her rudeness. Just realised after reading a lot of the reviews that rudeness and shouting is a recurring theme here. Is the restaurant management not seeing these reviews and taking preventive measures? On 15th September 2024, the lady who served us 2 hot chocolates to-go needs to be held accountable by the restaurant owner/management. We entered this place to get 2 hot chocolates and were patiently waiting for someone to look our way/for our turn. 1 waitress kept looking our way but ignoring us as we stood near the cash counter waiting to be served. This other lady with short hair looked my way and i assumed it was for our order so I politely asked if we could get 2 hot chocolates to go, and she rudely shouted you need to wait for your turn and they will get to me (which was EXACTLY what we were doing until then, waiting patiently). The next minute she turns to another European couple with a big smile. TO BE NOTED: This was in the evening hours when it was not even crowded so this behaviour was not justified at all. The staff members were not over loaded at this point as I could see them chit chatting amongst themselves. And even if they did want to ask us to wait, there is a way of communicating the same - definitely not with that tone and arrogance and it can be said in a nicer way with less of negative facial expressions. The staff needs to be trained on basic communicating manners and etiquette especially in these customer facing jobs ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CUSTOMER IS BEING POLITE. Its unfair to hurt someone's feelings for no reason and ruin someone's trip by giving these memories. If you have such racist feelings or can't be polite then please don't work in such customer facing jobs! I would give this place a negative rating if possible just because of the waitress's arrogance showed towards us. Please learn to be kind towards humans, you don't know how you can ruin someone's day and experience with your attitude! Also the hot chocolate she served us was diluted with so much water - I don't know if this again was intentional or not.

Lady in the bar laughs at you, rolls her eyes, is incredibly unfriendly, talks badly about you in German to other Germans

Very friendly staff. Great location. 2-minute walking distance to cake cars. Quiet room with a balcony. Beautiful mountain view.

Unfortunately the hotel staff Anna was extremely rude and personally offensive, and I believe we're unreasonable and overcharged me. I booked direct but asked for the room and rate I had seen on a booking website, as I like to support hotels this way when I can. At checkout I was presented with a much higher rate than expected. When I challenged this I was told that we had stayed in a 'standard' room not a 'budget' room (I had no idea - the room they put us in on arrival was basic but comfortable, definitely nothing special and not huge). Anna from the hotel agrued with me that she had told me the (higher) rate on the phone - she hadn't done that or even when we checked in. I am not rich enough for this to be unimportant! She then had the incredible rudeness to say "well you had the money to go paragliding, which is very expensive". The fact that this was a gift for my brother's birthday abs the main reason for our trip was none of her business, although I did tell her, and that her assumptions were not welcome. This hotel lets down the swiss reputation for honesty, and professionalism in hospitality. Avoid it if possible. If you must stay, then be very careful, ideally book with a third party, be ready for rudeness, and expect to be overcharged. Very disappointed.

This hotel is a hidden gem in Grindelwald. The staff is the most welcoming and friendly. The breakfast is absolutely delicious with lots of variety and very high quality ingredients. The room was big and comfortable with an amazing view of the mountains.

Great location. In the middle of town & right next to the First gondola. Fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. Friendly service and comfortable rooms. We enjoyed our stay!

In the center of Grindelwald, a terrific Swiss hotel experience close all event venues. The rooms are quiet, clean, with views of the Eiger! Stunning! The host made every effort to ensure a great vacation. Its' the third time we've stayed at the Alte Post, and we will be back.

Yelp
Eating outside in a cafe in Grindelwald is a pleasure in itself. You can order a nice salad with a healthy steak and rosti as well. Service was excellent and everyone is gearing up for Summer season. If you can, make reservations if visiting over the summer.

Yelp
We ate at Alte Post in Grindelwald two nights in a row, and it was fantastic both times! The Wiener schnitzel is absolutely incredible and brought us back again for a second night. We would have gone a third time, but unfortunately, they were closed. The service is top-notch, the food is exceptional, and the ambiance is warm and welcoming. If I could rate this place 6/5, I would! Salads - exceptional Soups - delicious Veal - tender/flavorful Fries - yum Highly recommend to anyone visiting Grindelwald.

Yelp
The service was prompt and friendly. We loved that you could substitute rössti for French fries for an up charge of CHF 4. My wife and I split a large salad and the beef stroganoff. They were both delicious. The one drawback is that the prices were high - for example the stroganoff was CHF 51.

Yelp
While researching for dinner in our first night in Grindelwald, we came across Alte Post and decided to give it a try. The restaurant only had indoor seating at the time (outdoor was full/had reservations) so plan ahead! The restaurant had only a sheet of paper with maybe 10-15 dishes that ranged from starters and entrees. I ordered the pork schnitzel and it was probably one of the better schnitzels I've had ever as it was really tender and crispy. The portion was also pretty generous as it included two pieces of schnitzel with fries. The lack of the one star was the staff, they were efficient and friendly but I accidentally was in the target zone for one of the waitresses while she had to sneeze and it was kind of weird/uncomfortable with no apology as she was more stressed with taking our order and trying to manage the rest of the restaurant. Minor thing but something that I will remember about eating here. Overall, I would definitely try their schnitzel or something here if you're looking for a dinner place in Grindelwald.

Yelp
We had lunch here one day and dinner on another. Both times the food was excellent and the waitstaff very friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and warm - a perfect spot for a meal!

Yelp
Found this place for dinner- I had the chicken with noodles and herb butter and it was delicious. My husband had the pork - bone in with gravy and fries. Everything was extremely tasty and large portions.

Yelp
Lovely stroganoff. Perfect dinner to end a long day of biking in the Swiss alps. It was slightly spicy, just enough kick to become addicting.

Yelp
The food is a little expensive but worth it. The dishes and atmosphere feel authentic and cozy, especially on a rainy day. Service was quick and accurate.

Yelp
The locals come here and many tourists as evident by a picture menu with descriptions in English. What I loved about the place is that they have wine (optima) just made for this restaurant and the cheese comes from their own farm. Service was great. The owner herself comes out and handles the clients. The food was fresh and moderately priced. We ordered sirloin w salad and it was declared as one of the best steaks ever had. I had the local cheese and the optima wine which together meshed and tasted like a caramel delight. It was the oddest yet most delightful experiences in a very long time!!! You can buy the wine and cheese to go. So grateful for yelp in guiding me here!

Yelp
Alte Post was recommended to us by locals. It's family-run and offers a classic and charming and tavern-like ambiance. Much like all other eateries in the area, meals are made with ingredients from their farm or local producers. The meat, the cheese, the vegetables- you name it! Service is attentive and quite fast. We ordered the braised wild goat which was very much like a stew served with spaetzle, a cross between an egg noodle and a dumpling. This dish was little hard to eat with so many small bones in it, but the sauce was rich and heart warming. We also ordered the sauteed chicken and rosti. Both entrees were served with fresh mixed greens. The salad was the highlight for me. The mix of shredded beets, carrots and seeds with the creamy dressing was delicious. The dressings common in this area are like a more vinegar based thousand island, SO good. Paired with local beer, this dinner was a-ok. During the summer time there are a lot of flies in town, they are everywhere. I recommend sitting inside unless, flies don't both you. Prices are on par with the rest of the area.

Yelp
This place is wonderful. We had the pork chop and beef stroganoff and I can't recommend either enough. The sauces on both meat dishes were completely on point. If you are looking for high end Swiss comfort food look no further!

Yelp
Food was good. Was able to get right in which was nice. We had the sausages and potato salad- the potato salad was very good! We would go back.

Yelp
Great local food (we got a local wild goat as part of chef's special). A bit on the pricey side, but good value overall with the salad included and quite a big main dish. We shared both and had enough food. And the server was awesome!

Yelp
This is where the locals go for real Swiss food. Small family run charming restaurant serving high quality ingredients. Known for their quality of meat served with incredible sauces. Service was excellent. Attentive, but not overbearing. Not wait in the kitchen with courses served quickly. The veal in a white wine cream mushroom sauce over buttered spaghetti was divine. Local dry Swiss wine paired with the veal made it even better. Reasonable priced. Will come back ASAP on our next trip just to continue working through the menus.

Yelp
My wife and I ate here for dinner, we ordered beef stroganoff and veal salad, both were delicious! Yes a little pricey but on par to prices in Switzerland in general.
