Chalet Ivy Jozankei

It's a traditional style ryokan built in a very beautiful way. The service is good and the staff is very polite. We stayed here for 2 days in their hot spring room had the best time. They never say No to any request. They have an onsen for everyone, spa. They provide Kimonos and night suits inside the rooms. They serve traditional japanese food ,Japanese style. Unfortunately they don't have laundry service but maybe that's because of the location. Overall a good stay.

Thank you so very much for your personalised hospitality and being so accommodating during our stay. What struck us the most was the kindest customer service and professionalism that the team and especially Peach have provided us. The ability to communicate and be understood is invaluable especially when one is travelling. We will return again in the near future. Thank you once again for doing your utmost and showing attention to care in all areas and that was evident even before we arrived.

The main issue was the attitude of a female staff member who appeared to be management/ownership (wearing a kimono and giving farewell greetings). She was arrogant, dismissive and unprofessional, showing no sense of service or accountability. Unfortunately, this interaction left a very negative impression on the final day of my trip. Having stayed at many hotels and high-end ryokan in Japan, I felt this property is overpriced for the experience and service provided. At this price point, there are plenty of other hotels and ryokan offering similar options with better value and service.

We stayed for a night and this property exceeded expectations. It is spotless and you dont need to leave at all. It is so well run and the service is so personalized, from which bus you are taking back into town to what allergies you have, all staff members take note of your preferences. Especially want to thank ***** for making this stay so memorable! Food is also very wholesome and seasonal. Could not fault this place if you tried!

I spent 2 nights in this hotel. The room was big, clean, with private onsen and comfortable. The exterior autumn view from the room was beautiful. I was happy until the dinner time. I had teppanyaki dinner. Most of the food were overcooked, eg abalone, lobster and etc. The taste of wagyu fillet beef steak was bad. It was not tender and had a tough texture. The chef in-charge told us the main chef was not in, so he took over the role. The second night dinner was a Japanese Kaiseki. Most of the food were not satisfactory in taste. The breakfast for two days tastes very bland.|I will not return again. the food had significantly reduced the standard of the hotel.

Chalet Ivy is a beautifully designed hotel, situated by the river and an easy walk into Jizankei. Our room was huge (we went for the Deluxe Corner Suite) with a spring bath, which we made much use of. The onsen was lovely - at the time I went, no-one else was in there. There is also a small lounge area with locally sourced snacks.||The reduction in one star is due to a few snagging issues:|1) The run up to the visit was not the smoothest with Chalet Ivy emailing us to say we have double booked and booked for the wrong dates (both were incorrect). Both of these were c.2 days before we were due to arrive and was a little bit stressful.|2) The hotel previously said there might be additional charges to accommodate my gluten allergy. Chalet Ivy confirmed two days before our arrival (i.e. once the cancellation charge had set in) that this would be c.GBP 50 per day. While the timing was unfortunate, I would be able to appreciate this - however, there were no distinguishable ingredients provided aside from a gluten free soy sauce and miso, and this was the only hotel or restaurant to ask for this.|3) The food at the restaurant was lacking compared to of all the restaurants and hotels we visited in Japan. The exception was the Teppanyaki which was an incredible experience!||All in all, it is a lovely hotel- but I am not sure we would stay again for the price point.

This stay at Chatlet Ivy Jozankei Onsen was one of the best stays in any luxury boutique hotel around the world. As soon as we pulled into the drivel, the staff came running out to help meet us at the car and assisted with our bags immediately. ||Attentive staff, beautiful location right next to the river and a wonderful Kaiseki style dinner (and breakfast) at Zui.||The food was excellent, both for Japanese pallets (like mine) or my wife who is a foreigner, using local seasonal ingredients.||We stayed 2 nights, so the menus changed each evening a breakfast, which was very nice. Great Hokkaido wine pairing with dinner the first night, then a Nihonshu Sake pairing the next night. ||Easy walk to most tourist areas and shopping in the area, so didn’t need to drive around (although parking for our car was free). ||Beautiful private onsen in the room (with a window that opens to the outside), with a view of the river below. Onsen on the first floor is also beautiful featuring inside and outside Rotenburo and had the whole place to myself. ||Highly recommended hotel and we will definitely be back again.

I loved the architecture and interior design of this hotel, modern Japanese-European style, especially like how the architecture make use of the windows to view the outdoor scene. The minimalism design provides a smooth calm and relaxing atmosphere. The dinner is really good and special, it's a fusion of japanese and western kaiseki-lyour. Some western herb use lights up the taste of the Japanese cuisine. Paring with their recommended local wine is the star special experience.
