We had a lovely 6-night stay at Chalet Shiga and really enjoyed our time there, as a family of 2 adults and 2 preteens.
The biggest strengths of this place are its excellent location, great food, and overall convenience for skiing. It’s just about 100 metres from Ichinose Family and Ichinose Diamond, which made getting on the slopes extremely easy, especially with kids.
One of the highlights was definitely the dinners. After a long day of skiing, coming back to a hot, well-prepared meal was such a treat. We ate dinner at the chalet 4 out of our 6 nights, and there was good variety across the meals. It became something we genuinely looked forward to each evening.
The ski rental shop on the ground floor is another big plus. Being able to rent equipment right in the hotel, store it there overnight, and head straight out to the slopes each morning was incredibly convenient and stress-free.
Our room was clean and spacious, especially compared to many other properties in Shiga Kogen. The rooms are fairly basic and a bit dated, but that seems to be standard for the area, and it works well if your main purpose is skiing.
One practical tip for future guests: check whether your room has a private bath. Some rooms only come with a private toilet, and guests use the shared onsen for bathing. We found the onsen a great cultural experience, but those who value privacy may want to make sure they book a room with a private shower/bath attached.
Overall, Chalet Shiga is a comfortable, well-located, and practical base for a ski holiday in Shiga Kogen, with excellent food and very thoughtful ski-related facilities. We’d happily stay again
