We are a family of 4 staying here with another family of 4 and its been the perfect ski chalet for our group. The location is fantastic - allowing quick and easy access to both sides of the mountain, also allowing for quick trips back to the room for those who need a break from skiing. The common areas on 2 and 3 allow for groups like ours to relax and hang out depending on our mood. The included meals have been excellent and we have been here 7 nights. We are regular skiers in Japan, with young kids under 10 and this is so far the only hotel/ski resort that ticks all our boxes. I would recommend it but not too loudly as we don't want the place to be overrun with people - it is perfect as it is, slightly under the radar.

We are a family of 5 excellent location to two sides of the mountain. Lovely atmosphere and onsen to relax. Ski rental shop and bar is downstairs which is very handy. Good breakfast and the set dinner menu was great noting there is little/no deviation from the set menu for any dietary requirements.

Great location with easy access to the slopes (~2 mins walk), had dinner throughout our stay (5 nights) and was consistently good quality, rooms are pretty basic but did the job, shared baths were maintained clean, nicely renovated lobby area to have a coffee. Conveniently located ski rental store at the first floor and lockers. Make sure you keep your windows shut to keep the monkeys out (however you get a nice close up view of these monkeys from your window)

We are so glad we stayed at Chalet Shiga. We were here for 9 nights in a Japanese style room with breakfast and dinner included. The food and the service were fabulous, although if I stayed 9 nights again we might not include dinner as it is a very similar set menu each night. A very central location with easy access to the lifts at Ichinose as well as a bus stop close by. The Teppa Bar downstairs was also a great spot to have a local craft beer or sake after skiing/before dinner.

Great location for access to skiing, very convenient. Had the traditional room. Ask for a second futon if to hard. Breakfast is good. If you want dinner you just book before 6pm day before. However there are restaurants nearby. Very short walk to ski field and you can ski back and have ski hire. Will stay again.

Great restaurant, good value, very easy access to Ichinose ski resorts. Food is great for both dinner and breakfast. The lobby is a big plus with great atmosphere and free coffee and tea.

Really excellent Ryokan, we had a great time there. Very nice sento. The hotel is very clean and well managed by its owner, who is a fan of photography and photographer. The main floor is beautifully renovated and warm. Maybe it's a bit quiet, but that was fine by us. The ski rental is conveniently on the first floor and run by the son of the owner, and had very nice gear and very friendly and flexible service. The bus stop is right in front. We loved it.

We stayed four nights in early January—lovely service, from buffet breakfast to banquet dinners; traditional room with futon and tatami were great; and the location relative to ski slopes was wonderful! My personal favourite part was the Shiga Kogen Photographers' Centre, on the second floor, with a huge collection of photography books and a quiet, warm space to work as well. Reminded me of a library! I would definitely recommend staying here, both for skiing but also for a nice space for rest days! 🌟
