Yelp
Chalk hill has absolutely amazing views, not to mention unique wines that are worth purchasing. We ordered the caviar with our wine pairing, which was light, not too salty, but a perfect start to the wine tasting with the crème Fraiche. My favorite for the wine tasting was the Malbec, which had cigar box notes, and had a different taste to it than the Argentinian variety which is drier and fruitier. Our service here was fantastic and we ended up joining the club here to have wine shipped directly. High quality wine here and the best views in Healdsburg.

Yelp
Had an incredible experience visiting Chalk Hill Estate for the first time. Not only was this my first visiting these vineyards, but it was my first time wine tasting in general! Made a reservation ahead of time for myself and a friend for a Monday afternoon. Although it had been raining cats and dogs all week, we managed to catch the one day with a break in the clouds. The drive out to the vineyards was absolutely beautiful, even the property itself was a dream. Plenty of parking close to the estate itself, easy little walk up some stairs, be sure to look back and take in the rolling hills of grape vines, the wide open sky, and the tree line. Once we entered we were immediately greeted by two warm faces, Ross and Dante. Dante was our main server for the afternoon and who was incredibly kind and helpful with all my bizarre wine questions. I am personally way more in tune and knowledgeable in the beer world, so it was so great to have someone so patient to answering all my weird questions about wine in general and the property itself. As for the tasting , we sampled four different wines of theirs, a Sauvignon Blanc, a Chardonnay, and two reds. On top of that we also ordered a little cheese board to clear our palates in between wines. For someone who has never been a fan of wine, I was truly impressed with this experience. Their Sauvignon Blanc was the perfect blend of sweet and dry (enough that the beer girl bought a bottle!), their Chardonnay was smooth and buttery, and both of their reds were so delicious and rich, it had be day dream good pairing at the table! Overall we had an wonderful time explore the wine of Chalk Hill and our server made it an even better experience for a first timer. Highly recommend putting this spot in your bucket list!

Yelp
One of the best wineries to visit in the area. Beautiful grounds and very friendly staff that gives you extra pours of their rare production wines. As must see if you are in the Healdsburg area.

Vince L.

Yelp
Alex is very knowledgeable and made the experience super exceptional. Loved all the wines he had served.

Yelp
On the way to another tasting we saw this spot, was early for our other booking so we stopped, glad we did, lots to see here and good wine too- tours offered by vehicle here- owner proprietor lives on site- wheelchair access- one in our group broke a leg- all important everyone gets to go-great hosts

Yelp
We were at Chalk Hill in October and as many folks do bought some of their wines. Last night we had the 2018 Chalk Hill Estate Red. It was fabulous!! Medium to full body, slightly dry, blackberry and cherry. It was great!! Thank you, Courtney,

Gary J.

Yelp
Pretty amazing experience. We dropped in unannounced on a Thursday afternoon early October. We explained we are new locals with out-of-town guests who love the Chalk Hill wines. No problem, seated on the patio with a view, treated like regular Club members to a tasting of several of their white wines. We've been experiencing many wineries over the last couple of months in search of a wine club, or 2. The experience at Chalk-Hill made our decision for us, along with becoming a member into the Foley Food & Wine Society. Looking forward to many more visits, events, tours... Post note: if you are able to visit wine country during the week, highly recommended you avoid weekend/holiday crowds. The staff actually has time to serve your needs better if not rushed. There is a labor shortage in wine country, it becomes obvious when tourism peaks.

Yelp
The wine tasting was great! I enjoyed their whites and I am more of a red wine drinker. The grounds is also nice to enjoy while sipping on some wine.

Yelp
We had a great tasing experience at Chalk Hill on a cold and rainy afternoon. The grounds are absolutely amazing, had no idea there was so much here to look at and enjoy. We look forward to coming back on a nice spring day and doing a tasting outside on the patio. It's a beautiful place to come and grab a bottle of wine to enjoy as well. Large outdoor seating area (weather permitting) we did the estate tasting which is the Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Estate Chardonnay, and two estate reds for $40pp for non members. We will definitely be back. Great to have such a nice winery close by! Service was also great, Natalie was a very good host and very attentive.

Yelp
WOW! Where to start with Fried Chicken and Caviar Chardonnay Pairing experience? The estate is gorgeous. Knowing some of the Chalk Hill wines this was a must while in the region and we were blown away by the entire experience. The property is second to none with main barn daunting in size and beautiful until you wind through the property, past the estate I look forward to be invited to by Bill and Carol some time, only to arrive at the dressage barn like no other barn. Cheerfully greeted we were escorted to our personalized table. Well done you! Glad we did not eat before as the Fried Chicken and Caviar Chardonnay Pairing was on point and huge. Outstanding! The GF chicken was moist and delicious will natural spices not to overpower the wine. The addition of the caviar and chips rounded out the tasting and complemented the overall profile. The Chardonnays (easily some of my favorite) were wonderful and a bottle of the 2018 Felta was purchased to enjoy while we continued to nosh. We did not want to leave. The service was lovely with excellent and special attention. There is nothing bad to say about the experience except that I live too far away to take advantage often enough but I promise I will be back. Once note on direction, it was unclear on were to drive once on property. Clear signage would be helpful although I would not mind getting lost and running out of gas while wandering the estate. Thank you and cheers!

Yelp
This was our first stop on our girls day to Healdsburg.I chose this place as it's all over the internet as a wedding venue. When we arrived both gentlemen working said that they don't do weddings which I thought was odd. That was totally ok as my list of venues is quite large and that made this one easy to check off. After getting checked in we were situated on the front balcony overlooking their stunning grounds. Our host pointed out the different vineyards and old horse stalls in the distance. The water feature was breathtaking with a gorgeous fountain spewing calming water on the large lake. This spot is definitely a mellowing vibe. You instantly feel the weight of the world off your shoulders as you slide down into the pillowed seats. Now to the wine. I didn't do much homework on the wine selection here as I was their for other reasons (ugh wedding planning). They're known for their Chardonnays which happens to be my least favorite varietal. That being said I'm not the best judge here but I didn't think any of the wines we tasted were particularly extraordinary. I'd take my opinion with a grain of salt though as this place is hands down worth the visit solely for the stunning views. All in all it was a great first stop.

Yelp
I loved it so much here that I purchased a membership Our wine expert taught us a lot with a very laid demeanor and a great personality. Thank you Raj!

Sherry T.

Yelp
This was a beautiful winery and a large selection to choose from. We just did a tasting but would love to tour the grounds another time.

Yelp
Went to Chalk Hill for an impromptu visit during a recent trip up north. I live near another Foley property in Santa Barbara and have seen photos of the property and thought it might be worth visiting. I was not only impressed with the wine quality, but also with the level of service I received from my estate host Mike Brossmer. He was cordial, helpful, informative, and entertaining! I highly recommend sitting inside it's almost like being in a Parisian apartment and I felt very comfortable sitting and chatting with Mike, the manager and other patrons!

Israel W.

Yelp
1st experience was great. We ended up joining the winery. 2nd experience was not good. The individual pouring the wine, Raj, was more attentive to other people than actual wine members. Barely engaged in conversation. Felt like he was more in a rush to get us out. We are going to be canceling our membership and not returning.

Carla I.

Yelp
Beautiful view at their tasting patio! We loved soaking in the sun and the rolling hills while enjoying some delicious chardonnay.

Shannon H.

Yelp
We must have caught them on a bad day (based on the other good reviews). We were seated on a couch in one of the front rooms (wasn't the main tasting room, if there is one) and a server would come in every so often to pour a new taste. We could hear them talking and laughing in another room but we felt very isolated. No descriptions were given of the wines, just a pour and what kind of wine it was. It just wasn't a fun tasting for us, at all! Couldn't wait to leave.

Yelp
5* Chalk Hill Winery Beautiful property; have dancing horse manor on hill Great wines; loved their chardonnay Expensive Host Trevor was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable

Yelp
This is a beautiful property with well made wines. The service was terrific and we felt welcome from the minute we walked in. This winery is very worth visiting.

Gabrielle Z.

Yelp
If you're a foodie, this winery is for you. Good food and wine are natural compliments of one another, so if you're going to visit, take the time to go on the Estate Culinary Tour and Tasting and dine in the glass Pavilion with breathtaking views of Napa Valley. They really know how to pair wine with food. At Chalk Hill, one of ffw culinary properties, their extensive 100% organic gardens provide their Estate Executive Chef David Thater with an abundance of fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables used to created dishes to showcase the estate's variety of wines. At the beginning and end of the lunch, you'll go in the Estate car through the 300 acres of vineyards...it's incredible! The views are one of the best we had during extensive visit. One of my favorite pairings when we visited was the 2017 Sauvignon Gris with some Baja Gulf Shrimpy for course 1 and the 2017 Mt Eden Pinot Noir (so good I snagged a bottle) with Black Truffle Squid Ink Spaghetti for course 2. Getting an Uber here can be confusing because there's another unrelated Chalk Hill property that is small and 10 minutes from the Estate, so make sure you have the right address.

David B.

Yelp
Just an outstanding tour of the grounds thanks to Trevor We jumped in a Hummer drove up to the top of the mountain for amazing wine amazing history and amazing views! Next time you're in Sonoma you must do it! Cheers!

Yelp
My fiancée and I visited Chalk Hill for the first time 6/24/23. When arrived the host informed us we needed a reservation to wine taste but we can purchase by the glass. We accepted and got seated. We ordered our glass of wine and once it was delivered. That was it. We weren't offered water. We weren't offered another glass of wine. We weren't checked on at all. Everyone else around us had water and charcuteries. It wasn't until we got up to go pay that a server ran to us to give us our check. 2 glasses. $60+. If I knew I was going to be forgotten I would not have stayed. Save your time and visit Castello di Amorosa. They take walk in seated reservations and the wine is amazing!!!!!! The service was marvelous and Steph Alder took great care of us.

Yelp
DH and I are still not ready for wine country visits. Sheltering in Place is our mantra. However, that does not prevent us from being "arm chair visitors" to wine country. We enjoy re-living past visits by looking at photos, notes, and -- best of all -- opening a bottle of exceptional wine. We just finished the 2015 Carmenere that we purchased at Chalk Hill in March of 2019. In hindsight, we should have bought more. A lovely change from our usual Cabernet Sauvignon. Very smooth. It was unfiltered so as expected we found a bit of sediment at the bottom of our last glass. But all in all it is a wine worth seeking out ... as is Chalk Hill Estate.

Tom S.

Yelp
Gorgeous setting. Huge estate. Elegant tasting room. Outstanding facility for a wedding or big corporate event. Came for a wine tasting. Cloudy, unfiltered, unrefined chardonnay is not my thing. The tannic red blend can strip old paint from wood. For me, undrinkable. $20 for estate wine tasting or $30 for reserve wine tasting is a bit too much given the middling quality of the wines. This winery is just one in the huge portfolio of the Foley empire. See: http://www.ffwsales.com/brands

Yelp
We had an absolutely amazing time at Chalk Hill! My husband and I arrived right when they opened and got a table by the stairs overlooking the property. The scenery was gorgeous and we really enjoyed how peaceful it was. Our host was extremely personable and was able to tell us a lot about the property and the wine. We ordered a charcuterie board with our tasting and were very happy with our decision. It complemented the tasting beautifully. We decided to become club members during our visit and absolutely cannot wait to receive our wine - especially the Sauvignon Blanc and the Chardonnay. Cant' wait to come back during our next visit!

Emma J.

Yelp
I spent a lot of time at Chalk Hill for my best friend's wedding, and fortunately that time included many glasses on wine. Nothing makes Chalk Hill's rolling vineyard & Mediterranean architecture more beautiful than a bottle of their 2012 Chardonnay. So creamy & vanilla-esque with a hint of citrus... it's perfect for an afternoon of casual sipping. The 2013 Syrah is also the hot ticket. Full-bodied, luscious, and a little peppery, this Syrah was made extra indulgent with a smoke from our wedding's custom cigar-bar. I recommend driving the loop through Chalk Hill's property before popping bottles - their on-site chapel and overlooks are beautiful! Perched above the vineyard are their very special Pavillion and Boardroom. The floor-to-ceiling windows and stunning Impressionist art collection create a striking ambiance perfect for private events. Service in the tasting room is a little off the mark, plus many of Chalk Hill's bottles can be found for better prices in our SoCal grocery stores (hello, Von's wine sale!) Overall Chalk Hill is a must-visit & a great final stop before sunset - the sight of the sun dropping behind their vineyard is breathtaking!

Yelp
I scheduled time to visit the different AVAs of Sonoma county and specifically wanted to try the Chalk Hil area. Although I was surprised to find only one it was a pleasant surprise. Upon entering you are funneled into the property with century old olive trees that have been transplanted from Napa. The landscaping was necessary after a fire burned out the original trees a few years ago. It seems fires have become the new norm in northern California wine country. Marissa, Guest Services Lead, not only poured our wine but was both enthusiastic and informative about the wines, winery, and history of the area. She made our tasting experience an adventure at Chalk Hill Winery and tolerated our constant barrage of questions. (How many different varietals in the world? Where did vitis vinifera originate?) My wife enjoyed the freshness of the Felta Chardonnay while I was torn between the 2018 Chalk Hill Malbec Petit Verdot and the 2018 100% Malbec. The latter has strong tannins but a nice flavor profile; I recommend putting it in your cellar for 3-5 yrs to soften. We are looking forward to returning when we can enjoy this again with more friends.

Cyndie C.

Yelp
This was our first time tasting at Chalk Hill. We enjoyed ALL the wine, and the service was excellent. We didn't know the extent of the red wines they are making as they are renowned for their excellent chardonnay. It would be important to make a reservation, I think. We made ours many weeks in advance of our visit. The tasting area is lovely and looks out over the vineyards. The downside is that the tasting is very expensive. $40 per person which is double what we are usually charged, and they only waive one tasting fee if you purchase 3 bottles of wine, so that makes it much pricier than other places where we've tasted. Hence the reason I am deducting one star. Also it is part of a group of about 15-20 wineries owned by one person -- billionaire Bill Foley, the owner of the Las Vegas Golden Knights hockey team. Apparently, he just bought a $23 million mansion in Carpenteria, CA so I don't know why he feels like he needs to charge that much for a tasting. Anyway, the wine is good and worth a visit if you enjoy Chalk Hill wines.

Yelp
We were just here and had a fabulous day! Started off with our host and Wine connoisseur Kyle who was exceptionally knowledgeable about each and every wine we tried. Kyle knew exactly how each wine was made and the time spent in each French barrel. We enjoyed a beautiful charcuterie board along with our incredible tasting while viewing the picturesque grounds of rolling hills of estate vines and mature oak trees grazing the hills. We were amazed to hear that almost every single wine was Estate grown! Each wine was spectacular from the nose to the tastebuds! Absolutely beautiful all the way around! We will definitely be back!

Shelby M.

Yelp
Raj did such an amazing job for me and my friends! What an amazing host! We learned so much about the estate and loved the wines. Thank you Raj for making this suck a memorable experience !

Tina O.

Yelp
A lovely place. Made a quick stop here after an event at another winery close by. Had just a couple tastes as I'd had a bit of wine already for the day. Had lovely service from Nicole and James. The wines I tasted were mostly ones available retail - all were quite good - Sav blanc, Pinot and Chardonnay. They have gorgeous grounds and a lovely drive down an off-the-grid road. Highly recommended.

Sherena J.

Yelp
We stopped by this winery while visiting from Southern California. The sign said "Welcome! We're happy you're here" we thought great, let's go in since a reservation is not required for a tasting. It wasn't even 3 pm on a Sunday afternoon and plenty of people were still there but the hostess said she would have to check with her manager to see if we could do a tasting. She came back and said "no, would we be around next weekend?" No explanation given as to why we couldn't do a tasting and we just left. We didn't feel welcome and they certainly didn't act like they were happy we were there.

Courtney S.

Yelp
Absolutely loved everything about this winery. From the wines, the ambiance, and the staff it was a wonderful experience. I have to say that the Chardonnay was one of my favorite tastings....and I'm usually not a huge fan of Chardonnay. My husband and I will definitely be coming back.

Ashley V.

Yelp
Amazing wines and wide wine selection from single vineyard chardonnays and pinots to cabs, zins, and even Malbec and Carmeñere! The view is stunning! They have local artisanal cheeses meats and chocolates available for purchase to enjoy with your wines. If you call in advance, I highly recommend booking a vineyard tour experience! Ask for Jesse! He was very knowledgeable and fun and customized our flight to our palette. The Carmeñere really stole the show for me. A very unique wine.

Grace L.

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL view and very elegant wine. Participants of the Barrel Tasting 2017 with Wine Roads. Enjoyed their Sauvignon blanc, Pinot and Syrah. The staff serving the tasting were very knowledgeable and approachable. Their wines are on the pricer side. As you look at your views... It's mostly hills of grapevines, which makes the roots work harder to make those grapes... And so you have amazing wine. So that's what I was told by one of their staff. Very cool. The more you know... And I asked for another tasting and he was more than willing to give me MORE! ;) Lots of stairs to go up to their winery, but there is also a ramp on the side for those that cannot take the stairs especially after having alot to taste... Ramps would be a safer alternative for me ;). It's a beautiful winery. The wines are amazing and elegant!

Miriam W.

Yelp
Chalk Hill is gorgeous. The Estate Tour, run daily at 10:00 and 13:00, was included in our room rate at Hotel Les Mars. It was a nice way to to see the natural beauty of this 1300 acre property. Eight of us loaded into a Dodge Sprinter to take the tour (don't worry, you can bring your wine with you!) which was peppered with bits of history about Chalk Hill and some seriously gorgeous views. The tasting was extensive, we probably sampled 10 wines. The whites weren't really to my taste (too sweet) but I really enjoyed the reds. Of particular note: the Chalk Hill Estate Red. If you love big California reds, you will find yourself a fan of this one. The staff at Chalk Hill were incredibly welcoming and totally down to earth; definitely no wine snobbiness here!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of wine tasting at Chalk hill winery on October4th. We were served by Charmaine and Braquel(not sure about the spelling). They provided Outstanding service. The wine was delicious. The property and the view was amazing. Hats off to our servers. I can not wait to return. Looking forward to attending an event on the property

Kerri C.

Yelp
Lovely winery with tasty wines and stunning views. The drive from downtown Healdsburg was beautiful. Couple of issues-Our tasting felt rushed. Not a huge deal as we had other places to go. They weren't as flexible with letting us try additional wines, despite the fact that we all made purchases. They gave you shopping bags for your wine, so our bottles were knocking into each other on the drive back. Annoying. Overall it was lovely but not remarkable enough to repeat.

Shana W.

Yelp
What a gorgeous property!! As Foley Estate members we love visiting all the properties and although we go to the harvest festival at chalk hill each year we had not been in the tasting room before. We were greeted by a very welcoming staff and the woman that was pouring for us was awesome!!! Several of the wines I had not had before and truly enjoyed them as well as the conversation with the staff!! Our friends that were with us also throughly enjoyed the experience!! We got a few great bottles to take home and will definitely be back!! We are contemplating adding chalk hill to our club list as well!!! There is a great variety of wines of which are all well crafted and there is definitely plenty to chose from!!

Gianna G.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience at chalk hill! Brikell was our host and she was very attentive and helpful. Such great service and beautiful atmosphere

TravelerLiz F.

Yelp
beautiful winery. Loved the wines. recommend Carol Ann chardonnay. All the Foley wineries are worth visiting & joining the wine club.

Nina L.

Yelp
Wonderful experience here over the weekend! The estate is gorgeous and the service was top notch. Charmaine was our host, and she took excellent care of us! She shared a really interesting history of the estate and wines, and gave us lots of info about visiting Sonoma county. We decided to become members of the Foley wine club and received a beautiful basket of organic produce grown right there on the grounds. The staff were also very attentive to protective measures against Covid-19, which I really appreciated. Can't wait to come back!

Klein N.

Yelp
Love the place. Service was awesome. They took great care of us. The patio overlooking the vineyard where we tasted the wine was just breathtaking. Highly recommend visiting.

Rich C.

Yelp
Love this wine. And the family who makes it. Remembering Pat today and shedding a few tears. Pat was the most caring person with a heart of gold. I feel privileged to have known him, and spent some of the best times of my life with him and his friends. The world was a better place with you here mate. When I drink your family's wine I pour a glass for you buddy. Thank you for being you. Cheers to Chalk Hill and Foley Family Wines.

Christina H.

Yelp
Such a beautiful property! The wine tasting was a wonderful experience and Charmaine was a wonderful host as well as very knowledgable about the wine making process and the different types of wines. My husband and I had a wonderful time celebrating my 40th birthday there! We definitely would go back if we were in the area!

A. D.

Yelp
5 stars for the views and the ambience 3.5 stars for the wines Tried the estate tasting - the Pinot was good and the red blend even better You must give this winery a try

Susan M.

Yelp
Amazing wines, gorgeous property and made us feel safe by separating tables and requiring masks to enter the building. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly!! Highly recommend. We didn't partake but they had some really food looking food options too!!!

J. S.

Yelp
Came up here today to celebrate my wife's birthday and Taylor Pratt treated us like royalty! Such a sweetheart! Beautiful views and excellent wines, such a treat. Leaving feeling relaxed and treated special. A special destination spot to relax and enjoy a little time. Thanks Taylor, love you lots! Jan and Cindy

Sussie C.

Yelp
Beautiful scenery... very clean and enjoyable tasting area... sit inside or outside... the wines were also very good. I really enjoyed my experience there!

Mark O.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and tasting room but not much of a view from the tasting room given the great possibilities. We came as our first stop for the Winter Wineland event and only got a tiny pour of three wines - anything after that was $10. Not really what the event is all about and I don't need tons of wine at any location. The sauv blanc was OK and the Pinot Gris was not very good in my opinion. Don't remember the red. I just did not find the friendly vibe that I enjoy at most Sonoma County wineries.
