Lescun is a beautiful valley (we chose to stay there and hike since it is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in France). Les Estives is nicely decorated, very quiet, and in a nice location just a 5 minute walk from the very pretty stone town. However, the owner was never very welcoming to us. When we arrived at 2 P.M., she basically scolded us for being too early, even though her e-mail said we could arrive after 2. She also refused to speak any English with us, even though her e-mail had said that her English was not very good. Therefore, we spoke French the whole time. The dinner she served for us (she refused to serve us dinner the last 2 nights since we had not reserved those dates beforehand) was very good, although she kept a tv on and basicallly stared at us. We both know some French but were not prepared to speak no English at all. She lent us a good guidebook for hiking. The last morning, she basically ignored us and served her French guests. I was never offered my usual tea, and we had to remind her to bring us some yogurt. The breakfasts are very basic- only tea or coffee, yogurt, toast, and some baked good. Since we couldn't have dinner at the b&b for two nights, we tried the only restaurant in town, Les Bergers, which was not very good at all. So, we relied on the small food store (closed mid-afternoon) to eat dinners of cheese, bread, and wine in the kitchen area. We wish that her sister, who was very nice, had run the b&b. Oh, well. I can't recommend this place unless you are fluent in French and can tolerate an owner who just doesn't seem well-suited for her job. Do visit the Lescun area for the scenery and hiking, though (you can pick up a good hiking book in the food store). Don't try to bring a large car into the town, though, with its very narrow streets.
