All the Best Places to Eat Cheese in London, from Raclette to Fondue | Eater London

"With a name that leaves little to the imagination, Champagne and Fromage celebrates the cheese-fizz love affair at its three bistros — in Covent Garden, Brixton Village and Greenwich. The deli-slash-restaurant stocks 20 growers’ champagnes, which can be bought by the bottle, tried in a taster flight or guzzled down during happy hour, along with 50 or so cheeses and a menu that’s not afraid to do a little better than its peers. Outstanding melted cheese dishes include baked Cancoillotte, Cremeux de Jura fondue, and baked Camembert with a dozen combinations of mouth-watering toppings — Corsican ham and sweet pepper jam, shallot confit and raspberries, truffle and port, to name a few. For platters, cheeses are grouped by family and meats by region, before being served on irregularly shaped wooden boards with decorative drizzles of jam, nibbles, and tapenades in dinky glass jars. Finally, there’s the afternoon tea — champagne, cheese, macarons in four flavours, salted caramel canelés, pink Reims biscuits and, of course, tea for dipping." - Daria Kyrilova

Would I go back? You'd better brie-lieve it 🧀 The atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for a cosy date or a catch up. We tried a few sharing plates to go with the champagne tasting flight. The food was impeccable, but the tasting was far better than expected. The friendly & knowledgeable waitress talked us through everything - no snobbery, just down to earth and detailed enough to make a simpleton like me notice & appreciate the differences in what I was tasting. What's better than a combination of champagne & cheese? When it's done like this 🤤

With my visitors from Germany we spent a glorious lunch at Greenwich's gem of a French bistro yesterday. We decided on a sharing platter of 3 cheeses and charcuterie and tapenade accompanied by a glass of rosé each. Douglas' cheese recommendations were incredible and we enjoyed every last bite of the fabulous spread, especially with the tasty warm baguette. Douglas' service was fantastic and incredibly friendly which we appreciated so much...as it is not that easy to come across in London. In my opinion this cute and rustic little place is the best lunch location in Greenwich and each time I am there (rare) I am sure to visit it. Thank you Douglas to make this day a memorable one!

I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at Champagne and fromage. The food was simply outstanding, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was a delightful surprise for the taste buds. The staff were amazing—friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about providing top-notch service. They made us feel welcome and ensured we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The atmosphere was incredible as well, with a warm and inviting ambiance that made our evening truly special. Whether you’re looking for a place for a romantic dinner, a family outing, or a night out with friends, this restaurant is the perfect choice. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience! AMAZING STAFF I LOVE LUCAS AND DOUGLAS LOVE THEM BEST PEOPLE

We had an absolutely amazing lunch! The garlic and herbs baked camembert, and the XL sharing platter provided us with sensational flavours. Excellent quality, and you can buy the saucissons and cheeses there to make your own at home if you so wish. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes the cheesy life, with some charcuterie to spice it up!

Amazing place for brunch, love it so much! The food is just fabulous The service given from staff is so kind and helpful. Although the tables aren't always clean, the rest of the place makes up for it. I recommend going here as it's truly incredible!

YOU MUST TRY! No need to say more. Amazing place, very warm, feels like family. If you want to go on French adventure, that is your hot spot! Manager looked after us very well and recommended best champagnes. In my opinion go for Rose! We tried snails, cheese and meat board, hot potatoes with truffle, but baked Camembert with figs is to die for!

Google
We had a disappointing dinner at this restaurant. The food was a let down, although the service was quick and friendly, probably helped by the fact that it was early evening and not busy. The fondue was terribly bland, a far cry from the real thing (possibly lacking in the gruyere cheese), while the duck confit was just ok, the salad bed that accompanied it was very basic, with no detectable dressing. The champagne was lovely and well chilled. In conclusion, overpriced for the quality on offer Will not seek to go back.

Yelp
Food, service, and environment thoroughly stunning. Been to the Greenwich branch several times and introduced my parents to it as well. Always fantastic, high quality experience. A must on the itinerary.

Yelp
Sad to see that this place has gone downhill recently...popped in tonight for the first time in a couple of months and it was just awful...champagne was dropped off and opened but not poured, I had to ask three times for a glass of water and the oysters were served with lime not lemon (???) and without any shallot dressing...the most basic things can make a difference.

Yelp
Overall a sadly overpriced, overrated place. I really want to love it for its uniqueness in Greenwich but... the cheese and meat place has minimal cheese compared to meat (and it's fatty). The ratafia is tasty but again pricey for how much you get. And the service is AWFUL. Waiters ignoring you and having to wait quite a while. Won't return.

Yelp
This is an intimate restaurant in the heart of Greenwich. I shared a platter with three French meats and cheeses with my husband. Everything was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed a floral champagne glass while my he tried a different champagne. We had a corner seat mounded with pillows; quite comfortable. The lady who served us was full of smiles. It didn't take long for our food and beverages.

Yelp
As à French woman I've never thought of mixing cheese with champagne. To be honest it's an amazing match, as good as cheese and wine. We stopped there in the afternoon with my parents and we ordered a cheese board with glass of champagne ( rose for myself and blanc de blanc for my parents) it was really good and I loved this match! On the menu you can choose different kind of boards: cheese, charcuterie or both and also you have a nice choice of different cheeses ( hard, creamy, goat,...) I recommend this place for a nice and chilling appetizer

Yelp
Book ahead of time, limited seating indoor. Outdoor seating available. We had assorted cheese and cold cuts. Nothing like cheese from France. Blue cheese are the best.

Yelp
Great drinks! Great food! Great service! My only complaint is that I don't live in the area to come more. I recommend getting the Champagne flight and Charcuterie board!

Yelp
Charming little place in Greenwich. Service is very good and if you're looking for something a bit different for brunch, not a bad option. In fact, for 12£ you'll get a French breakfast/brunch including a glass of champagne, a hot drink and a juice. Keep in mind, the breakfast is very French and thus carbs heavy, so not so great if you're gluten free or looking for something very filling for that matter. It was lovely though. As I mentioned, the waitresses were really lovely and helpful and the decor of the place is also very French in a quaint kind of way. Being French they take their wines very seriously and thus there were many different bottles on display as part of the interior decor of the place. As such they have a champagne of the month which alternates. It was lovely. Would definitely come back if shopping in the nearby markets and looking for a light but nice bite.

Yelp
Wonderful cozy place with a real French feel. They have a wide selection of cheese, ham and sparkling prosecco - it's a perfect gem for a lovely brunch/afternoon with your girlfriends or a loved one.

Yelp
I'd just like to say, I'm on first name terms with a champagne called Colin. But when we pointed this 'silly name for a classy drink' out to the waitress at Champagne&Fromage, with an immature giggle, she pronounced it in a French accent which sounded so much more sophisticated. This led to attempts to think of names which did not translate well into French (and we hadn't even started drinking yet). Where was Dave, for example? "Daveed" she responded with narrowed eyes. Champagne&Fromage is a dinky little place, where many tourists peer into the windows to see what happens within, so our ignorance was public. Yelp
Champagne + Fromage already boasts two locations in the capital, one in Covent Garden and one in Brixton. The Greenwich restaurant and bistro opened its doors in June 2015, on the threshold of Greenwich market, and offers a concise and authentically French menu of sharing boards, terrines, rillettes and confits. Rustic boards showcase a princely range of cheese and meats and are a visual splendour- we ordered the gourmet board, a steal at £25 and generously portioned for two diners. Staff provided an overview of each component, which included three cheeses: one was treated with a champagne wash during fermentation, one was a bold tasting soft cheese and the last was a mild, hard cheese made from a blend of sheep and goat's milk. There were three varieties of cured meats, freshly shaved at the counter and delicately arranged. The addition of a coronet of rillettes, a scattering of pickles, pots of tapenade and a basil cream added just the right level of gastronomy. The board was accompanied with a side of finely sliced French bread to liberally slather with the tapenades, which stood on their own merits as punchy, flavoursome counterpoints to the cheese and meat. The fig tapenade was fantastic- we were disappointed to find that we couldn't buy it, as it was sourced directly from a supplier in France and the manager had very limited stock. The champagne list is extensive, but it was a school night and we kept to beer and wine. I enjoyed a good quality and reasonably priced house red with a velvety finish and there was an IPA available from Hop Stuff, a local craft brewery based just down the road. For those hunting for worthy champagne, Champagne + Fromage carry examples from 25-award-winning growers and offer some appealing champagne-infused cocktails too. The restaurant itself is charming, offering several small tables and a counter for diners and making everyone feel very welcome. The staff were all polite and French and the Manager was exceptionally accommodating and conversant in his produce- he allowed us to sample some of the cheeses at the counter and we left with a full arsenal. We're well on a way to an unbeatable cheeseboard this Christmas! Cosy ambience, excellent and attentive service and a delicious (if somewhat indulgent) menu makes this new addition to this mini-chain worth a visit. Be warned that the menu at this location varies from the other branches and vegetarians might struggle with the options. The omission of a selection of tartines is also lamentable. But all can be forgiven with another perfectly paired glass of fizz and liberal portion of fine cheese.

Yelp
Best baked Camembert with fig. Took tip had rosè with salami board. Very yummy! Plan to go back to have chocolate fondant cake and brunch.

Yelp
The perfect stop for lunch near Greenwich Market. Dropped in for lunch and shared a cheese & charcuterie board as well as the cheese raclette over potatoes. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly. We don't drink so I can't speak to the champagne.

Yelp
We love it. Cute little French place to have brunch during the weekends. Champagne and meat board, followed by excellent coffee. Why not. It's a treat every time.
