My cousin was passing through Chattanooga on the way back to Pennsylvania Saturday, January 21, and we decided to meet for a quick breakfast/brunch. Due to Champy's East Ridge proximity to the interstate, the restaurants unique vibe geared toward a motorcycle crowd (my cousin owns Harleys) and their special "brunch" menu on weekends, it seemed a good fit.
WORST CHOICE EVER. I arrived at 10:50 am to wait for my guests, and was seated in the bar. There were maybe 6 other people in the area -- not crowded. My server asked about a drink to which I requested coffee. Now, if a restaurant opens at 10:30 am specifically to serve a brunch, then logically, wouldn't it have fresh coffee be ready (?!?). Nope. 15 minutes later, I asked for coffee again. "We have to make it" was her reply. When she brought it, she never offered cream or sugar. Again, I asked and when she returned, "we don't really have cream (?a brunch menu?!?) so I found these" -- she plunked down some hazelnut creamers.
When my cousin arrived, we both ordered the Champy's special which specifically states "two eggs, cathead biscuit with a choice of hash browns or grits, sausage or bacon". Our plates arrived -- food was maybe lukewarm-- but there was TOAST, no biscuit. I asked the server "this is supposed to be a cathead biscuit". She replies, obviously irritated "it's a choice". I replied "no, there was no choice -- the menu states it's supposed to be an automatic with the meal". She stumps off and comes back with ONE biscuit even though there were two special plates. I was beyond exasperated, so my cousin asked for his biscuit along with just basics -- butter and some jelly. She brought them several minutes later -- frozen.
Champy's is not a cheap restaurant, so you would expect their service to be above par. I supported them since they first opened on Main Street -- but no longer. We should have enjoyed a better breakfast at Cracker Barrel for half the cost. So very, very disappointed for my guests and will never recommend them to anyone again.
