Apparently there are a couple of different locations for this restaurant. This one is small, with murals on the walls, and a small staff. The food was excellent! The feel was definitely local, not fancy, and there was no pressure to turn over the tables and hurry you on your way. Even the appetizer selections were sizable in their portions, and I would definitely come back to try more of the options on the menu! It was a wonderful place to go with friends and share several things together.

From outside it looks very modest, but it's a place with a really good cuisine. I was in love with my ceviche. Be aware that the portions are large. I would give 5 stars if the ambiance was better.

A group of us went for lunch and ordered a few things to share. The sauce with the bread was amazing. I highly recommend the shrimp and rice dish pictured. It was incredible. There were a few things that were okay but more so because we didn't know what to order (dishes with similar sauce, boiled potatoes, etc). Definitely coming back to try other dishes during my visit here.

Very good seafood restaurant with huge dishes (you can share one for two).

Cerviche was really good.. Great place to go to break up the meat dishes. Only place I visited twice while in Buenos Aires.

It's a hole in the wall Peruvian restaurant that's full of locals. I stopped by for lunch and tried to decipher the Spanish menu. I knew I wanted ceviche and a pisco sour. Those were easy to find among the several menu pages. The memory of the one I had in Lima has been haunting me for several years. I ordered the big ceviche. This restaurant delivered a large ceviche plate experience with it's own interpretation. The pisco sour was closer to what I remember.

I actually liked the place. Yes, it could be cleaner and stuff, but the service is fast, the prices are ok and the guys know what they are doing. It’s all right!

We order two different ceviches....and the waiter didnt mention that both have chili...and we ask about, he insist that there was no chili. We didn’t enjoy our ceviche. Don’t recommend the place.

Yelp
If you love Peruvian food, GO HERE. If you've never tried Peruvian food.... GO HERE and experience its wonders. I went with friends who were game to go splitsies on 3 different dishes, so we got to try a nice variety! The creamy chicken dish was awesome... It had a bit too much sauce, but the chicken was tender and flavorful enough to even out the ratio. The ceviche was refreshing and came with scrumptious mussels. I wasn't as blown away by our 3rd dish, fried fish in a red sauce, but it was still pretty great. The corn and bread are served with sauce that packs some punch. Loved the pop music (even though it seemed a little out of place, the choices were prime) and the friendly service. Chan chan rocked; I'm gonna recommend it to everyone I know!

Yelp
Chan Chan no longer is here. It has changed owners and been renamed -- is now called Ewaya. Same staff. Nice menu, lots of seafood. Lunch was was delicious.

Yelp
After reading reviews about this place it was a place to check out. The service is close to non-existing, the waiter threw one menu on the table as she went by.. Not a smile and or any tips/recomendations on dishes. We asked what size the starters was as the prices was close to the same as the mains, the waiter said small/ only a taste.. The starter was huge. (We speak decent spanish so the communication was not a problem) We tried cevitche and langostinos for starters. The cevitche was pretty good to be honest, but the langostinos was awful. Please see the picture.. They "decoraded" it with ketchup and mayo! We had a good pisco sour to wash it down with fortunately. The main dish was a hugo plate of deep fried sea food: whole pieces of shell, crab and fish. Probably enough for 4 people. For us this was really a poor experience, the service , the inovative peruvian cusine some mentioned in a review I could neither see on any plates or taste. The fish they used in both the cevitche starter and the main course was of a good quality and their pisco sour was also good, too bad they ruin thin impression with a non-existing service and some dishes who is close to a disaster. If you need to go here, stick to the cevitche no matter what!

Yelp
There are many good Peruvian options in Buenos Aires, and this is one of them. We arrived early around 8pm before then opened and there was already a line forming. Once inside, it has a nice family feel to it. Food and drinks came out rather quickly, and each dish was tasty. I do wish my lamb was more tender, and the portions could be a little bigger. Everything was good though and left satisfied.

Yelp
I have been to Peru twice and I have a Peruvian sister-in-law so I am very picky when it comes to Peruvian food! This place was on point! Great food, reasonable prices, awesome service! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I came here to have dinner during my vacation w a friend. I led us here Bc the ratings were high but upon entering the place looked decent and clean . The service from the man taking care of us wasn't all that great & quite dry. I ordered ceviche mixto, the smallest portion I've ever had and for the price it was pure robbery, the Arros chairs de vegetables was no where near what it's suppose to taste It. Let me just say that I've been eating Peruvian food since a toddler so I'm quite the expert. On the bright side the food is decent and the place is clean ..

Yelp
This review is based on Chan Chan's offerings at the Masticar food festival in September 2018 -- a massive outdoor fair featuring dozens of Buenos Aires restaurants. We must have indulged in more than a dozen different tastings at the festival, but the flavor that sticks in my mind is of the Ji de Gallina -- a rich, creamy yellow chicken stew, that is thickened with walnuts. For those familiar with Pakistani food, the texture is somewhere between paya and haleem (though the flavor profile is more rich and savory than spicy). Apparently the key ingredient is the Peruvian aji pepper, which I absolutely must find at home in an effort recreate this dish.

Yelp
I have no complaints. Perfect dinner here on Friday night. We hit a sweet spot in regards to time and only waited 10 minutes, got in right before the rush. Seated around 11 pm, line was huge at 11:30. The free bread and sauces were the perfect way to prepare the taste buds for the evening, but so yummy that it was hard not to fill up on it. We got the Papa Huacaina (sp?) dish to start and the flavor was unbelievable! Savory but not overly salty, perfect texture to the potatoes also. My main dish was the cheese stuffed fish dish, very unique, very special. I think it's difficult to marry fish and dairy, so this was perfect. Also, the pisco sours were big and a must order! Very inexpensive yet the quality doesn't suffer.

Yelp
Great Food, Service is Okay We arrived at Chan Chan around 8:45p for what we thought would be an early dinner (considering how late they eat in BA). When we entered the restaurant, even though they only opened up at 8p, they were completely packed. Given how small the restaurant is (maybe 15 tables/40-or-so seats), we had to wait outside for about 30 minutes until another table opened up. This was a positive sign that Chan Chan had to be good. Well they definitely delivered on that: Food quality was fresh, the menu was diverse, and the prices were quite reasonable. There wasn't much ambiance or atmosphere to Chan Chan with their mismatched tables and chairs, but that's not what their customers came for. They came for the good food and the social environment. We ordered ceviche for a starter and a bottle of Malbec. My wife got a Peruvian rice and fish dish while I had braised lamb. Both were really good, and prepared with fresh ingredients and large portions. With the first bite, it became immediately obvious why Chan Chan was so popular. The only flaw I could find with the restaurant was that service was somewhat inattentive, and I am saying that from a Latin American perspective. Otherwise, make sure to get to Chan Chan early to avoid a wait.

Yelp
Chan Chan is a popular place in Buenos Aires. So in order to avoid the long queue outside, I advise that you go out of the prime Argentinean lunch or dinner times. 3p for lunch for example is a good bet. It's no coincidence that the place is popular though. Service is quick and courteous, the food is really good and prices are cheap. When looking at their menu, no need to go past the specials page. Everything we tried on there was delicious. My husband and I had a mixed ceviche to share, as an appetizer. It was perfectly made and a nice fresh relief from the outside heat. Tom had the rabbit stew - it was amazing. Really amazing. I had the fried fish, which was good, but I would definitely choose the rabbit if I go back. Button line : do go.

Yelp
Since I arrived in BA I have been craving for ceviche. Reading the good reviews on Chan Chan I decided to have lunch there and I was not disappointed! Great deco, friendly staff and excellent ceviche! Although I thought there was too much fish and not enough sweet potatoes ;-) but I'll definitely go back soon to try other Peruvian speciality!

Yelp
Great Peruvian food! Cute decor and fast service. Came here for lunch at around 12 before the lunch rush (early for Argentina standards) I remember the ceviche being very tasty. Portions were huge too!

Yelp
I have very mixed feelings about Chan Chan. On the one hand, the food was delicious, the decor and location are much more desirable than other peruvian restaurants near Once. On the other hand, my friend did get diarrhea after having ceviche here. It could be her sensitive stomach and I really don't want to blame it on Chan Chan, since we definitely enjoyed our night here.

Yelp
We walked 20 blocks for this restaurant, and it was worth every step! So good!!! Pisco Sours are a must! Great Peruvian food! Friendly staff.

Yelp
A cash only hole in the wall which serves fantastic Peruvian food. The combination Ceviche platter is huge and served four of us and was fantastic. It's cash only, but the portion sizes combined with the great prices makes that irrelevant.

Yelp
We love this place. Great service, food, price and very friendly. go right before they open if you can. If you cant, the waiting sometimes can take 30 to an hour depending on your # of party but it is totally worth for. It is a small restautant so nothing you or them can do about the waiting but the food do come out really fast after you ordered. They do have English menu and some vegetatian dishes like green spaghetti and vegetable with rice. Both are delicious.

Yelp
This was not only the worst meal we have had since staying in BA, but also one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. The restaurant was very busy when our party of 7 arrived. We waited 15 minutes to order drinks. The waiter brought only three menus, made no recommendations and was quite abrupt with us. We ordered a variety of dishes, chicken and rice, steaks, octopus and shrimp. We waited 50 minutes for the first dish to arrive, the rest of the food took 15 more minutes to arrive and my husbands food never came out. Although I had asked for the steak to be cooked med rare, it came out like shoe leather and was inedible. The chicken and rice was barely seasoned and very dry. The shrimp was the best dish on the table by far. After we complained to the manager, he explained that their vacation starts tomorrow and they were much busier than they expected. They had also begun to run out of food. The manager offered to take the wine off the bill. To top it all off the bathrooms were filthy beyond belief!!!
