Where have you been all my life, Cindy?! I am short for a guy and I have never owned a pair of pants that hasn't needed to be shortened. Since moving to the Upper Valley 20 years ago, I have tried several places and settled on two (one until she retired 15 years ago and the other until she retired more recently). It's always a pain to be able to get to them on the limited days they are open only to wait weeks for them to have my pants ready. (One place I tried only once -- which is no longer in existence -- told me it would be 6 to 8 weeks to shorten some jeans, but 2 to 3 weeks has been the norm.) Add that aggravation to the cost -- the place I tried most recently, who had good reviews on Facebook, charged me $25 to shorten a pair of jeans (and after measuring them on me when I dropped them off, she still left the pants several inches too long so I had to go back to her to have her re-do them). It's such a pain that I find myself holding onto pants for years and years and years to avoid the aggravation. So with that background, I had low expectations when I tried Chan-Chan's Sewing & Alterations for the first time today. I stopped by at the noon hour and was greeted warmly, shown to a clean dressing room and then had two pairs of pants fitted on me and she told me she would text me when they were ready. Two hours later, she texted me that they were ready! The length is perfect, the hem is straight, she was friendly, professional, and efficient. And she charged $14 per pair which is less than I have paid anywhere in the Upper Valley since 2015. Couldn't be happier. (Note: To find her, go to the Glen Rd. Plaza and look for the Allstate Insurance sign on street level. Look up and you'll see her sign in the window one floor up. I would ever have known she was up there.)
