Chaney's Dairy Barn is, in a word, a wonderful place!
We were camping in Bowling Green over Memorial Day Weekend. When we go out of town my wife always does some sleuthy, detective work to find cool places for us to go. As we were driving around town getting camping provisions (alcohol) I mentioned stopping at a smoothie place (it was 90°, after all), and she said "No, I've got a different plan". Jim knows wifey well enough to know that she's got something planned.
Fast forward a couple hours and she just started navigating. After a bit of drive out of Bowling Green, proper, we pulled into the parking lot of Chaney's. I was, like, WOW and YES at the same time!
Set out in the middle of a very open, vast area is this little ice cream haven...and it was pretty awesome. Looking a lot like a barn, it was the perfect decor, given there seem to be a number of farms nearby.
Since we had our dogs (Shelties, Dante and Madison) and with Covid-19 concerns, my wife entered the store first and came out with an ice cream cone that look SOOO effing good (mint chip). As soon as she took control of the Shelties it was my turn.
I walked into a very quaint, comfortable looking, down home country store. They had all the trappings of a more relaxed, laid back time, with knick knacks, locally-made jams and jellies, t-shirts, hats...the gamut of souvenir trinketry and crafted items that fit the scheme.
When you enter there's a stairway to an upstairs seating area (closed, of course, because of Covid-19), and then there are directional sign the tell you what direction to go for food or for ice cream.
It's a 90°day. Jim wants ice cream.
I browsed the flavors and settled on Bourbon Crunch.
Single scoop.
Sugar cone.
Thank You very much.
Coming in at about $3.00, it was very reasonable.
Back outside Jim goes to re-join the wife and Shelties. And to enjoy the ice cream...all while practicing social distancing. There were about a half dozen picnic tables places around the parking lot and side yard.
(Side note: I really hate that this review is peppered with references to Covid-19 and Social Distancing....I do...but it is a HUGE part of everything right now...and Jim apologizes for that)
The Bourbon Crunch ice cream was KILLER (although there was no "crunch" at all), and I was surprised to find Nilla Wafers in the ice cream as well. The real challenge was trying to eat the cone before it 1) melted or B) fell off the cone or III) I ended up wearing int.
(Jim won the challenge and finished it before any of those catastrophes occurred).
Chaney's Dairy Barn is a pretty cool (ice cream...cool...GET IT!!??) place and when I find myself in Bowling Green again it'll definitely be on my Must Visit list.
