In earlier days, economic activities at Changi Village centered mainly to catering to the personnel of the British Military Base at Changi.
When the British Forces left, HDB redeveloped the place and built 5 blocks of flats with shops and a market cum hawker centre.
The hawker centre was popular as lunchtime destination for staff from the nearby military base, airport and employee at Loyang Industrial Estate.
Up until the 1990s, Singapore Armed Forces personnel at Tekong Island would make pitstop here during their commute.
Changi Village serves as a transit to nearby islands, as well as a pitstop to anglers, holiday chalet makers and Changi Beach goers.
Interestingly, many had in recent times, travelled all the way here to savour the famous Changi Village Nasi Lemak. 🤪
Fun note: In the early 1980s, a popular lounge with live band music and serving liquor was operating at the ground floor corner of a HDB block at Changi Village. It's called Europa and was helmed by Singapore's "King of Nightlife", who was also behind St James Power Station nightclub, Shanghai Dolly, Peppermint Park, etc.
