Beautiful chapel with stunning azulejos covering all over the walls. I couldn’t even believe that the entrance was totally free. The only thing I didn’t like that people treat this place as a photo shoot place, yet it is still a religious place, I hope those people will know how to treat it right, not like a photo shot center.

This is a stunning stop in Porto. The history, architecture all contributes to this being an incredible experience of viewing art whilst in Porto. We visited this as a large walk around the city and this is one of our highlights for sure. It has worth admiring and learning about the Chapel of Souls whilst being here as it is a breathtaking place to reflect and take some time to breath inside whilst in the hustle and bustle of the city

Saw this church while strolling in the city, and as I have read in numerous blogs, this place is indeed very beautiful and the work of the tiles is magnificent. Located just at the crossroad, this will not be missed by anyone walking nearby. I was not able to visit inside but the tile work was beautiful.

Capela das Almas is a vivid highlight on Porto’s Rua de Santa Catarina. The exterior’s blue-and-white azulejos are nothing short of mesmerizing, telling stories with every tile. Inside, the gilded altarpiece and quiet atmosphere offer a nice contrast to the busy street outside. It’s a peaceful spot to pause, reflect, and admire centuries of craftsmanship. Best visited early or late to avoid crowds and catch the tiles in soft light. A charming local gem that’s free, easy to access, and worth a quick stop if you’re exploring the city.

Stunning building that is worth visiting! Didn’t enter but saw from outside. Location is near a busy station and shopping street so recommend arriving early to avoid crowds (especially if you don’t want too many people in your photos).

Also known as the Chapel of Souls (Capela das Almas), is a chapel located on the busy shopping street of Rua de Santa Catarina. Built is 18th century. The chapel's covering currently consists of 16,000 azulejo tiles that cover around 360 square metres of wall. Interior is neoclassical style. Popular chapel with tourists and locals. Hard to find parking in this busy area. Best take public transport or walk.

This is one of the most visually striking chapels in Porto. Originally a modest 18th-century chapel, it gained its current iconic appearance in 1929, when its exterior was covered with approximately 16,000 azulejos. The tiles were designed by Eduardo Leite and produced by the Fábrica de Cerâmica Viúva Lamego. They vividly depict scenes from the life of São Francisco de Assis (Saint Francis of Assisi) and the martyrdom of Santa Catarina (Saint Catherine). In contrast to its elaborate exterior, the interior is relatively simple and remains an active place of worship, preserving a solemn and reverent atmosphere.

This was not too busy on the Monday morning when I visited. The exterior is beautiful and there is a shop inside selling bracelets, jewellery, candles for 50 cents and holy water. Possible to light a candle in a way I haven’t seen before. Free to enter.

Yelp
This is one of the most unique churches I've ever seen. It's located in the center of town near a lot of restaurants and shops. The ceramic tiles on the outside make it very beautiful. There's lots of people walking by and taking pictures at different parts of the church to get it in the background. When you walked inside, there's a lot of peopleso I didn't spend too much time in there.

Yelp
The famous Capela Das Almas is also Called The chapel of souls. It's located in the middle of the main shopping street of Porto, Rua de Santa Catarina. Portugal is known for it's beautiful tile work called azulejo, and the church is famous for its exterior of blue & white tiles painted with scenes from the lives of various saints. There are almost 16, 000 individual tiles and it's absolutely beautiful. Definitely worth a peek inside.

Yelp
No lines, no wait, and no tickets required. The hardest part of checking out the Chapel of Souls is getting up the hill(s) to see it. Try to come on a clear day as the best part is the outside of this tile lined church. You can quickly take a self-guided tour of the interior as well (again, no ticket required). Unique enough that I'd say its worth at least a fly-by!

Yelp
I did not know what I had stumbled onto here as I walked through the streets on Porto, but I sure figured it out later. This is the famous Capela Das Almas (Chapel of Souls) and the blue-tiles are something that is unique to Portugal. They're called "azulejo" and they were originally an inexpensive way of decorating buildings in the city. The blue tiles here tell the stories of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Well worth a stop to view, even if you don't go inside.
