I dont know why the review Star is not as muah as high, but the shop is really great! Staff was so kind.

If you know your liquor prices don’t go there . Almost $10 extra on every bottle regular price . The clerk told me I have to pay that much because I am close to Yale . Such none sense. There’s closer one to Yale with better price stay away from that one fellas .

Dear Yale Community, I visited New Haven for my class reunion in May (SM 1997). Going “old school” and having a little party in the dorms, the liquor I brought from NYC to New Haven was gone in one night. Good times. On foot, we came to Gag Jr.s Liqour Shop at 1183 Chapel Street (near Dunkin Donuts). I entered the store with my college buddy and my sister – who was along for the experience from California. When I saw the price of a bottle of vodka, increased well above even NYC standards, I said, “That’s ridiculous.” Perhaps that was a bit aggressive but that was nothing compared to what happened next. The Owner – who happens to also be the cashier – screamed at me with such I vigor that I thought he might pull a rifle from behind the counter. He was bullying and nearly violent. I left the store but my friend and sister remained behind. This is where the conversation gets interesting. The Owner told my companions that Yale people are arrogant, disrespectful and basically that he could not stand us and our apparent righteousness. My friend reminded him that I had spent a lot of money there over the years. Suddenly I remembered why I stopped making my purchases at this location: in 1997 he yelled and screamed at me in the same frightening manner when I said something about prices suddenly going upon $5 in less than a week. HE OPENLY ADMITTED THAT HE INCREASES PRICES during reunions to my friends. I think this is despicable. And I certainly believe he does this for The Game and other major Yale events. I suggest Yale and it’s community members steer clear of this business. He hates Yalies anyhow – so why even bother?

The owners either smoke very heavily or even smoke inside the store. Regardless, whenever I go here, I can always smell very heavy cigarette smoke and I think it's super inconsiderate. They should make sure the air is clean inside the shop.

This Chapel West store has high and unfair prices. BEVERAGE BOSS is the ONLY Store in New Haven, who has The LOWEST PRICES in town, plus good customer service.

This is a perfectly adequate small liquor shop. I wanted the simplest possible thing -- Maker's Mark 750 ml -- and the counter dude was very pleasant about getting it for me. If' I'd been there for wine, I'd probably have a lot more to say, but I wanted a very popular size of a very popular liquor, and they had it. It was $45; I don't know what Connecticut liquor taxes or even prices in New Haven are like generally, so I can't judge the price. I was the only customer at the time. It was cramped. Decor was mostly bottles of wine. I used Yelp to find it and all of the reviews are super old and together they were a mixed bag, so I wanted to say I had a satisfactory experience.

Don't let this store's somewhat shady exterior scare you away! It's run by two of the nicest guys--who are always there and always willing to help you pick something out. Although Gag's has got a somewhat limited selection, it's well stocked enough with all the essentials, as well as chilled bottles of white wine and cases/six packs of beer for those on-the-way party pick-ups. Convenient, friendly, and as cheap as anywhere else. What else could you ask for?

Solid selection and decent prices. Owner and workers are really friendly! They're expanding the beer selection and making a lot of improvements lately. The wine selection is okay but you can't expect a lot from such a small store.

I'd say they have a pretty poor selection, mostly bottom to middle rack liquors and very few liqueurs or other key ingredients for any cocktail fans out there. Also, the prices were way out of line with what's reasonable. I'd save your money for a better liquor store.

Wow stopped in this store today to pick up some wine and what a great new selection of wine was talking to one of the employees and he said they are remodeling and bringing in over 100 plus new beers can't wait to check out there selection

The owners apparently don't accept IDs that are not from the East Coast (not unheard of for people to travel outside of their home state). After badgering us with questions and asking us for Yale student IDs (not everyone in New Haven is a Yale student), the owner tried to intimidate us by asking us if we knew what a fake ID looked like and then refused to accept our state-issued driver's licenses. Overpriced, rude and abrasive, and not worth your time. Good luck if you're from out of state.
