Chaplin's World

An amazing experience that really took us by surprise. We were lucky enough as visitors to the region to have our Montreux Riviera Card that got us half price entry. The museum is in two halves. After a ten minute movie you then walk behind the screen into an amazing interactive environment showing all of Chaplin's movies and his art and history of the silent era and beyond. Then the house tour features his life after America. All sorted amazing and an easy bus ride from the city, bus 212, which is also free with the Riviera Card. A must do if you are in Vevey.

Very nice interactive experience that tells the story of Charlie Chapman's life. Bring your camera, get crazy and have fun. The house tour, self guided, was wonderful as well. I felt like someone was still living there. A great view into someone's personal life. With 12 years living in Europe and visiting many places, I thought the 30chf entrance free was about 10chf too expensive. The price didn't stop us from visiting, but it is an expensive visit. The café is okay to grab a coffee and sandwich. We did!

If you're a fan of Chaplin, this is a MUST stop and see. Had chance to tour Charlie's home, which had all the original furniture from when he lived there. The studio museum was incredible experience, it was extremely well done and laid out. Would absolutely recommend!!

Totally recommended to visit when you are in the area or even when staying in zurich for a couple of days! Such a delight to visit Charlie Chaplin house and the museum.

Great day we spent here, it provides not only a great inside to Charly Chaplin life but also to his studio and technic on movies. Also the visit to his house brings a glimpse on his personal life! The movies sets are amazing!

Its a must see if you are a fan of Charli Chaplin it's where he spent his last days. Big rig motohomes will have a hard time parking. Parking is FRK 5.00 can be paid in the ticketing office.

One of the most unique and well presented museums I have ever experienced. There are multiple floors across two buildings that immerse you into Charlie Chaplin as a performer and a person. Wonderful for all ages. My son is 23 and he enjoyed it.. We all felt like we learned a lot, too! The cafe next door was also delightful. Enjoy!

This beautiful home is a wonderful and mysterious home and history museum. You will find a surprising and beautiful history of the movie industry from the life of Charlie Chaplin. We had never heard of this place so it was a complete surprise! This is exactly how it should be. I don't want to spoil this surprise but will just say it is well worth the trip. Just go and let yourself be swept away by this beautiful history. I love how his film history is separated from his wonderful home and family life. We've gone from not knowing much about Charlie Chaplin to absolutely adoring him. What a life!!

This was the most fun I have ever had at a museum. You start with a beautifully done video that is concise but informative on Chaplin's life. Then you walk through an interactive world of wax figures and movie sets. You can stroll the house and grounds where he lived with his family complete with every-day treasures, home movies, and pictures from their life together. The souvenir shop is resplendent with gifts for all ages and tastes. You don't have to be a die-hard Chaplin fan to enjoy this. I highly recommend visiting if you find your self nearby.

It was a bit overcast and rainy during one of our days in Montreux, so we decided to pay a visit to Charlie Chaplin's former mansion grounds near Vevey and learn a little bit more about the man that I know only a little bit about from my U.S. history classes in middle school. Despite the admission price being a little on the steeper side (25 francs for an adult), I felt that it was money very well-spent. There's a lot more to Chaplin than just the slapstick, physical comedy that everyone has probably seen a clip or two of, and it was great to see the two sides of him: one represented by 'The Studio' (his filmography and career) and the other represented by the mansion where he used to live (his personal life). I won't get too much into how 'The Studio' is laid out, as I think part of the fun (and surprise) was seeing how you encounter different aspects of Chaplin's work, but it was very thoughtful, and the one takeaway I got from a lot of the factoids was that the man was very dedicated to his work, and there's a lot more to it than just Chaplin running around in an ill-fitting suit waving his cane. The mansion contains almost all photographs and biographical details about Chaplin from his life after he moved to Switzerland in the early 1950s, and it's a stark contrast to see an aging movie star who worked very little beyond a couple movies and re-scoring his old silent films simply spending time with his young kids (and his much younger wife) in the foothills above Vevey and Montreux. That said, it was fascinating to get a glimpse of the man behind the too-white makeup and the mustache. Walking around the grounds is a peaceful way to end a tour around the grounds, and one can imagine the serenity that Chaplin felt when he took in the view from his house. There is also a cafe and a small food truck outside the museum entrance, but we did not check that out. Nonetheless, whether you are a diehard Chaplin fan, someone looking to kill time in bad weather, or simply wondering why there is a museum devoted to a Hollywood movie star from the early-mid 20th century in western Switzerland (that was me, mainly), Chaplin's World is a fantastic museum to visit for both kids and adults alike.

You don't have to be a Chaplin fan to enjoy a visit to his former estate. The grounds are beautiful, and his home is well preserved. There are many personal artifacts and photos that offer a glimpse inside the life of this fascinating man and his family. In addition to the home, there's a studio where you watch a short film about Chaplin's career and life. After the film, the screen is raised to let you tour through sets representing his most famous films, and there are costumes and props displayed throughout. Overall it was a fun and interesting way to spend a few hours.

Chaplin's world is great. I loved the place and all the wax sculptures are so real. Totally worth it.
