How to Plan a Ski Trip to Purgatory Resort in Colorado

"For a family-friendly in-town option, Chapman Hill has been operating since 1966 and offers a snow tubing hill, ice rink, two rope tows, a bumps course, and kids-sized park features run by the city." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. Absolutely awesome little ski hill and lessons. They were recommended to us by another ski resort as they give ski lessons to 4 year olds. We did lessons with Sam (ski) and Danny (snowboard) and they both were fantastic. Super patient and we were up and riding well by the end of 2 hours. They were also 1/3 of the price of learning to ski at any of the other nearby ski places. The 2 smaller hills were great to learn on and they had one huge hill for those that needed a challenge. While we didn't use it, the ice rink looked beautiful inside and they had plenty of events for everyone to get out and on the ice.

Great little rink that does a solid job of promoting hockey in Durango. The refs are solid and do a good job of keeping things in order. Love the fence behind the benches, keeps it cool and feels like old time hockey! They also sharpen skates which is convenient because I don’t know of anywhere else in the area that trims steel. Thanks to the employees for all your hard work over the years!

Great family place to teach kids to ski. Sometimes gets crowded of the bunny hill. Make sure to have leather palmed gloves for going up the big rope tow.

Great rink for such a small town and their staff was funny and helpful. They have great helper things for small kids. My older kids say they need new skates 😂😂 super fun time

The new lifts are great and give so much more room to ski! This is a great ski area

Consistently the worst Burger King ever. Rotten food. Low standards because the gm has low standards. Sh

This was our first time to Durango. The ice-skating rink was immaculate. There were plenty of families, locals, and first timers. We cannot wait to go again. Call before hand to find out about the session times, they are in two hour blocks.

Had a nice time at an open skate. Hopefully they consider getting "adult friendly ice-walkers." My 70+ year old family member was using one of the plastic walkers, having a great time, then a staff member informed her that they don't allow adults to use them. We talked with another member who had previously okay'ed it. Not upset with any staff, policy is policy. Nevertheless, at this point she was understandably embarrassed and felt like she was breaking a rule. Minutes later she turned in her skates and watched us skate from outside the rink. Pretty sad and non-inclusive moment that raises some ADA red flags. Since this is a city program/park, is it appropriate to join a city hall meeting to share feedback about obtaining adult ice-walkers?
