Yelp
Place really needs some updating. My family and I spent our 2nd New Years in Durango and wanted to check out the town. While the ski hill looks promising, we didn't get a chance to try it out. The price is very cheap($16 I think?) and if u are a beginner, I highly recommend coming here to practice rather than spend $60-$80 on lift tickets at the resort. They also have tubing on the other side. Lots of options so that was a plus.
Now the ice skating rink...so the first thing that threw me off is that the concession stand and the rentals AND the returns are at the same place. So basically it comes down to, do u believe the kids working at the concession/rental actually wash their hands before handling your food? Mmm...Secondly, they were so short of skates I had to opt for men skates, then different sizes, etc. A bit ridiculous if u ask me. They were very old and to top it off the laces don't match. Now, I'm not trying to be dramatic but I lived in the northeast so I've ice skated weekly during the winter growing up. I believe I'm pretty credible to critique.
Also, they don't check to see if u have paid. U basically just go in, so if I brought my own skates and I don't pay, no one would know any different! The lockers are cubbies so they are free but also open to the public.
Now to the ice! They do not groom this ice! At least once mid-session, they should roll out the ice machine and groom it! It felt like the roads in mexico - bumpy!
So, my suggestions for the city of durango, charge people properly and make sure they pay, charge for locker rentals, up sell food and invest that money towards better maintenance of your facility! Good luck!
