Charles Anthony's at the Pub Restaurant is a great place to get a high value meal. I took my cousin here and we both ordered the ribeye. I ordered the larger 14 oz at medium rare and she ordered the smaller one at medium. Cheyenne, our server, was perfect the whole evening.
I have eaten here before and my mother somehow knew about their Greek vinaigrette salad dressing, which I have taken several bottles back up to NYC with me and this evening would be no different. I ordered their bottle of Federalist red wine, which was not too dry and tannic for my cousin and, at $38 a bottle, was a decent value. The house salad with my prime rib was on point owing to the Greek vinaigrette. A sharp Italian cheese grated over top would give that salad pop with that vinaigrette and a few more cherry tomatoes and some cucumber would be right on time.
The ribeye was cooked to medium, instead of medium rare, but it was not tough or dried up. The marbling kept it that way. The flavor of the meat did not call for any sauce. The cross hatched grill marks were quite evident, but had it been medium rare, it would have been better. The 14 oz steak is cut a bit thin and this, in combination with a grill not at a high enough temperature and lack of bone in, prevented the regulation of cooking temperature to achieve a more complete outer crust while retaining a pink and juicy interior. At $41 for 14oz, it's a pretty good value. The au gratin potatoes were a great side dish, but I wish they would simply plate the side dishes instead of meting them out in shallow mini bowls.
I then ordered two bottles of the addictive vinaigrette to go back with me. Charles Anthony's is a great restaurant with an interior that is warm and dark. Service is great and the food is a fairly good value. One can dine here and order with confidence.
