How to Plan a Trip: A Month-by-Month Guide

"I use Charles Schwab as my fee-free ATM card provider when traveling, and I recommend finding a bank or card that doesn’t charge ATM fees." - Matthew Kepnes

Closed my accounts after 10 years as a customer. I had a terrible experience with Charles Schwab in terms of its service and the lack of respect that they show their customers.

1 star reviews are accurate. Front desk is arrogant, condescending and berating. First impressions last a lifetime. Our Family will never use CS.

I have accounts with several banks in the US and overseas, but Charles Schwab is by far my favourite. Especially when I travel, I save tons of money on ATM fees compared with other banks. Service (online chat) is also always great e.g. when my card was stolen abroad, I got first class treatment despite the fact, that I hadn't used the account in a while and the bank was probably loosing money with me.

Retired military veteran tested CS small investment options. For whatever reason it did not feel right. I requested the return of my funds. I have all the mail they forwarded. CS staff has refused to return my funds. Stated they don't have my address. It makes no sense. This type of madness happens often to veterans.

I like Schwab and I opened an account. I need to talk to an advisor about transferring some fund , I called , they say come anytime! I went to 100 Bway NYC but No advisor. wasted my time.

Google
Schwab offers awesome products and has a very helpful call center; however, my experience with the customer service at this branch was less than desirable. The attendant at the front desk who was assisting me was very rude and condescending, as if I was wasting his time.

Google
I really like Charles Schwab I am planning to move my larger portfolio to Schwab adding it to my current one there I just hope their phone lines free up soon as this pandemonium lately is over burdening them Have been quite pleased with the service as I have been with them probably ten years!

Google
Big Schwab fan. But this is the worst office. On Wall Street. Very embarrassing for Schwab.

Yelp
I had an ex-employer funded IRA with Charles Schwab. I requested a direct rollover to a self funded annuity in September. Nearly 2 months later I found out that THEY SENT THE CHECK TO THE WRONG ADDRESS. About a month after the initial call, once I found out my new annuity company hadn't gotten the check I requested it be cancelled. Three weeks later, I found out that not only did they NOT cancel the check, it had been cashed the same day it was requested to be canceled. They sent the check by regular snail mail instead of a courier or certified mail. Now they are filing an investigation for check fraud against the person who cashed it and the bank who didn't do their due diligence. To any one who asks, DON'T, I repeat, DON'T EVER use Charles Schwab for retirement.

Yelp
I was trying to set up an account with them and Thomas M claims for 2 or 3 days to have sent an email. Cindy doesn't call back. They are super disorganized.

Yelp
Went here a month ago and the teller guy that sits in the front was incredibly rude. He presented a pissed attitude from the first question I asked and made pretty much every attempt to turn me away. Also seemed to doubt I was even a client of the bank. For a brokerage in the middle of the financial district you'd expect better service.

Yelp
Charles schwab is the worst financial services entity I've dealt with in my 51 years of being alive. Get your money out of this institution immediately! I've been a lifelong TD ameritrade customer for a lifetime but my relationship with Schwab is impossible. The customer service reps don't get back to you, the reps don't have working content knowledge about their own company and the staff is accusatory over BS! I can't transfer $50 to my daughter's UTMA account because of the garbage accusations. I thought the merger would make things grandiose. I was dead wrong as the past 6 months with schwab has been mission impossible coiled with disrespect. Never again would I recommend TD ameritrade as it was bought out by schwab. Keep up the nonsense and the schwab stock price will fall further as everything is mismanaged.

Yelp
I've been a Charles Schwab customer for many years and have many different investment products with them, but after the rudest interaction at this location - debating whether I should move all my money to Fidelity or another online bank like Ally. I walked in - and instead of a hello can I help you. The women at the desk just looked me up and down. I asked I wanted to know other than depositing check what else does the CS branch offer? In the rudest tone she says "we don't handle cash - go across the street." And pointed to the Chase bank. I didn't even bother to answer her and just turned around and left.

Yelp
*havent been to an actual office yet, but definitely would not hesitate to stop by after my awesome customer service experience on the phone* Sooo, I just learned of Schwab's High Yield Investor Checking account this afternoon as I was researching the best cards to carry while traveling internationally- and it sounds *amazing*! Schwab's checking/debit card comes with free ATM withdrawals around the world (right? ..the fees are refunded to your account), and regular debit purchases at stores and stuff as I was told have no FOREX (foreign exchange) fees. I had a snaffoo with the online registration (which is actually super simple), so I called their 24 hour helpline-- I was amazed I didn't get someone in a foreign country. The broker I was on the phone with was a real person, and he was so darn cool and I can't begin to tell you how helpful he was. ***Total call time: 1 HOUR 45 MINUTES of him encouraging me to ask questions about all the things I didn't understand***. Isn't that crazy? He walked me through registration, confirmed on his end that I was set to go, explained the processes of how the brokerage-checking account I signed up for works, how deposits work, how to expedite my checking card coming in the mail because I'm going on a trip soon-- and then.. The best Investing 101 lesson I've ever had. I took these classes in college but it all went over my head. He explained investment strategies, the definitions of everything, how to use their online tools-- basically demystified something I tend to stay away from dealing with, and made asking questions really easy. ... I don't remember his name, but (I think) he works in the Indianapolis office. and that he was 24 and super smart. I really felt like I have having an over the phone class tutor who was really supportive and patient. Best customer service I've ever had. I called back in to try to ask that he gets sort of recognition (each time you call you may get a call center in a different city) so they are going to track him down. But thank you so much!! and I'm excited to get my card and avoid some international transaction fees!

Yelp
New office on Wall St. Walked in to ask question about my IRA and determine if leaving my IRA account there makes sense. Met two ladies at the front desk and was met with complete contempt and sarcasm. Question: With my IRA are there other plans that will decrease my commission rate ($8.95 a trade)? Ladies: No! Noted this without even hesitation (however the phone representative suggested I meet an financial advisor to discuss). I answer well that doesn't seem competitive.... considering other places are cheaper... Ladies: Like what.....? My answer: E*Trade, Bank of America, ScottTrade Ladies: Well you just named three institutions, there are plenty more that would cost 100 dollars a trade Me: Huh? (Wow what experts they are) Charles Schwab, watch your receptionists who are speaking for your company and not allowing the Financial Advisors to meet the customers.

Yelp
they are great with low cost. but i have now spent 8=10 hours just trying to set up roth IRAs. i am tech savvy but their user nav is ok but the people on the phone, lie or are wrong. they've sat on my cash (making money as all banks do) with multiple phone calls (like 10) and no solution yet. they claim to be the small person's solution. i just want roth iras for my daughters. ive spent way too many hours and still nothing. you kinda suck

Yelp
My call to Charles Schwab Customer Service went unanswered. After an hour and ten minutes on hold, I gave up. The recording continued to say Schwab was experiencing a high volume of calls due to market volatility, but the market is not particularly volatile today. If this happens again, I will close my Schwab accounts. Long wait times are disrespectful to customers.

Yelp
Is a negative star available? It's as if they don't want your money. The most unhelpful rude service. 'Sylvia' calls herself a broker but couldn't answer any questions and isn't even fit to sit at the front desk. Even as a receptionist she chases away any potential clients. Laughable experience.
